New PAC-12 raids the Mountain West, Adds Four Members

I think it would depend on what they've signed away to the ACC but a good starting point, as Brett mentions would be Stanford and Cal. I'd would also throw in SMU and, if they want to go to 10, UNLV would likely be the next best option.

Or they could sit on nine and throw UConn the football life raft it needs as a partial member. If the Huskies could get a share of a conference's football money and keep it's other sports in the Big East, that might be a win-win for them.
This PAC 12 is not the old PAC 12. Its new deal in 2026 will be lucky if it’s worth $10 million per team. No ACC team is coming back to the PAC 12 that will never be a power conference again. It is a Group of 5/6 conference at best. UConn is going to travel 2500 mies for all its away games? Really, for $10 million a year?

There’s not liking Trump for his policies or his personality, obviously a lot to criticize on both fronts. But when you insist that American Democracy will cease to exist if he wins the Presidency, that’s when you are no longer having a rational conversation and crossing into derangement.

No. 13 Seton Hall Clashes with the Crimson Saturday Night

South Orange, N.J. - The No. 13 ranked Seton Hall men's soccer team is seeking its first 6-0-0 start to a season since 1986 Saturday night when it hosts Harvard at Owen T. Carroll Field at 6:56 p.m.

The game is free for all to attend, and it will be broadcast on the Pirate Sports Network via FloSports, which requires a subscription. A discounted subscription is available through this link.

This is just the second all-time meeting between the two teams, who battled to a 1-1 tie last year in Boston.

MOVING UP IN THE RANKINGS

  • Seton Hall took a huge leap in the Sept. 10 United Soccer Coaches top-25, going from No. 22 to No. 13. It is the largest in-season leap in the polls the Pirates have made since going from No. 24 to No. 13 in September 1998.
  • In head coach Andreas Lindberg's tenure, Seton Hall appeared in the United Soccer Coaches top-25 seven times during the 2020 season, reaching as high as No. 6. Then Seton Hall spent four weeks in the national rankings during 2021.
  • The Pirates are one of two BIG EAST teams in the current top-25, joining No. 25 Georgetown.
WIN OVER RUTGERS

  • On Monday, the Pirates went to Piscataway and gave Rutgers the blues in a 3-1 victory over the Scarlet Knights.
  • Seton Hall capitalized on Rutgers drawing a red card in the 24th minute, scoring twice before halftime. Liam Guske scored his first career goal in the 32nd minute off passes from Axel Berglund and Sam Bjork. Tim Strobeck connected on a goal in the 41st minute, assisted by Jack Kossoudji and Til Kauschke.
  • After Rutgers scored off a Pirates mistake in the 73rd minute, Jared Smith helped put the game away in the 89th minute with an empty net goal off a pass from Aidan Tisony.
  • It was the first time Seton Hall and Rutgers had met since 2009, and it was The Hall's first win in the series since 2007.
  • This was also Seton Hall's first road win at Rutgers since Sept. 15, 2006, and the eighth all-time win in Piscataway.
  • Before beating Rutgers, Seton Hall's last true road win over a Big Ten team came Sept. 8, 1995, a 2-1 victory at No. 12 Penn State.
SHARING THE WEALTH

  • Seton Hall has shown outstanding depth so far in its five matches:
    • Eight different players have scored a goal
    • Eight different players have assisted on a goal
    • 14 different players have put a shot on goal
    • Both goalkeepers who have played have recorded a clean sheet
    • Five different players have earned a BIG EAST weekly honor
SELLWOOD & JENSEN HONORED

  • Thomas Sellwood, who is a sophomore academically but a redshirt freshman athletically after sitting out 2023, was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in Seton Hall's 2-0 win over Columbia. Sellwood delivered his first career goal in the 32nd minute in the 2-0 win over Columbia.
  • Soren Jensen, a graduate transfer from Post University, was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week after making seven saves in the 2-0 win over Columbia. All seven of Jensen's stops came in the second half, and it gave him his first Div. I clean sheet.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Seton Hall and Harvard competed on Sept. 9, 2023, and the Pirates led for just under 80 minutes of action. Andrea Borg scored in the 10th minute to put the Pirates up 1-0, but in the 90th minute, with just 29 seconds on the clock, Harvard equalized on a goal from Nik White, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
  • It's the only match ever played between the two teams.
  • Seton Hall is 39-26-11 (.599) all-time against members of the Ivy League.

OPENING SUCCESS

  • With its win at FIU, Seton Hall has now won its season opener under head coach Andreas Lindberg for the fifth time in seven tries, and the Pirates are unbeaten in all seven (5-0-2).
  • With their win over UAlbany, the Pirates are also now 5-0-2 in their home openers under Lindberg and have not lost a home opener since 2016.

Pirates Nearly Equalize Late In Loss At Lafayette

Easton, Pa. -- The Seton Hall women's soccer team searched for the equalizer and possessed the ball for most of the second half but the Pirates ultimately came up short as they fell to Lafayette, 1-0, on Thursday evening.

Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) had a game-high four shots and two shots on goal for the Pirates (3-4-1).

How It Happened

Lafayette scored in the 16th minute in what was a strong first half for the Leopards, where the finished with a 3-1 edge in shots. The lone shot of the half for The Hall was Camryn Williams (Doylestown, Pa.) in the 24th minute.

Lafayette put up the first shot of the second half but it would be the only attempt that the Seton Hall defense would allow the rest of the way. Tavana would take the Pirates' next three shots and two were on target but none of them could find the back of the net. The Hall finished with a 5-2 advantage in shots in the second stanza and their final shot on goal came from sophomore Gia Milano (Scotch Plains, N.J.), whose strike from outside the box hit the cross bar. Phoebe Hampson (Cheshire, England) followed the miss with a shot attempt of her own but she wasn't able to put enough behind it to score.

Tavana, senior Chiara Pucci (Munich, Germany) and freshman Kylie Ray (Ramsey, N.J.) played the full 90 minute for The Hall.

The Pirates return to Owen T. Carroll FIeld on Sunday when they host Yale at 1 p.m.

TOWSON, MD. – Sophomore Maddy Loiselle (Lutz, Fla.) had a career-high 17 kills and the Seton Hall women's volleyball team rallied from a set down to defeat Coppin State, 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-23), in the opening match of the Towson Invitational on Friday.

The Pirates' victory is their fourth straight and pushes them above .500 for the first time this season at 4-3.

Both Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Maddie Klungel (Napa, Calif.) collected double-doubles. Walsh matched her season-high with 14 kills to go with only three attack errors, 10 digs and two blocks. Klungel had a team-best 27 assists along with 12 digs and two aces.

SET 1:
Trailing 17-13 in the opening set, The Hall scored six of the next eight points, and a kill by Walsh tied the contest at 19 points apiece. Coppin State, however, bounced back with two straight points to jump back ahead, 21-19, and force a Seton Hall timeout. The Eagles never trailed again, going on to win the opening set, 25-22. The Hall lost the opening set despite hitting .429 as a team. In fact, the teams only committed four attack errors combined. Contributing to the Pirates' woes were five service errors.

SET 2:
Coppin State started fast again in set two, but The Hall came charging back. Down 7-6 early, the Pirates went on an 11-1 run, thanks largely to five Eagles attack errors, to grab a commanding 17-8 advantage in set two. The Hall went on to a 25-17 victory. The Pirates held Coppin State to only a .061 attack percentage in set two.

SET 3:
Seton Hall jumped out to an 11-6 lead in set three, but Coppin State responded with a 7-0 run to grab a 13-11 advantage. Trailing 18-17, the Pirates scored six of the next eight points to grab a 23-20 lead and force an Eagles timeout. Up 24-21, a kill by Senna Roberts-Navarro (Honolulu, Hawaii) slammed home a kill to give The Hall a 2-1 match lead.

SET 4:
Coppin State jumped out to a 10-5 lead in set four and forced an early Seton Hall timeout. Trailing 19-14, The Hall went on an 8-2 run to grab a 22-21 lead. With the score tied at 23, a Coppin State attack error put the Pirates in match point, and then an Eagles bad set provided the match-winning point.

Carino: Big East 24-25 Schedule Announced

Even if there is a decent helping of SHU fans for a Saturday game @ MSG, I can't imagine that St. John's would turn down the revenue of playing @ MSG vs. playing at Queens. 3/1 falls on an off night in the middle of a 3 game in 4 night homestand for the Rangers so it's very possible the venue is unavailable.

No msg events on march 1. Didnt realize ricky was such a chicken.
To me this is about limiting Kadary's exposure to our fans for their home game as much as anything else.

Rick and SJU are willing to sacrifice the ticket revenue from 2,000 SHU fans at MSG so Kadary doesn't have to hear it from us.

It's difficult to find dates at MSG but I don't think it's a coincidence we played at Alumni Hall two years ago, UBS last year, and Alumni Hall again this season. It's definitely strategic.

As a side note, in 2022 I met someone from St. John's athletic office. He told me St. John's was annoyed we played them at Walsh gym that season. Since then they haven't played us at MSG - is that coincidence or payback?
Interesting. Obviously we only played them at Walsh due to COVID issues. As I recall there were very few options to re-schedule that home game and we played them on the first date available but it had to be at Walsh.

The funny thing is their fans have never shown well in Newark.

Another school shooting in America

Gun laws need to be universal throughout the land. Doesn’t make much sense to have strict gun laws in Maryland and the state directly south of you have laxed gun laws to purchase firearms. Those southern states is the biggest supplier of illegal guns to the north. People just go to the south, but the weapon and come north. Then that same gun can be used and passed around. Your thinking is too simplistic. Ur a northern city has lots of gun violence therefore gun laws don’t work. There are other variables and causes that people just ignore.
I don’t agree with that. New Jersey, for instance has very strict laws about transporting guns over state lines. Lawful gun owners know that and follow the rules. Do you think criminals care? If they skirt the laws today, why wouldn’t they skirt the laws as you suggesting.

It’s not a gun problem. It’s a criminal problem.
