Enough is Enough: The Leadership Failures at Seton Hall

Was Hank being truthful when he said this (from the original Politico article)?

"For these reasons, the Board of Regents unanimously appointed him to be our priest-president, and we continue to have absolute confidence that he will use his role to instill hope and effectively lead the university forward.”

I wonder........

my guess on this.

Hank was told we dont care. he is gonna be the next pres.

and Hank agreed to stay cause he believes he can help - better than the alternatives.

fwiw i know nothing about hank but that he is very successfull on wall st, rich, and generous towards seton hall. And on the BOR. And, halldan speaks highly about him. which means a lot to me.

I feel like the season ticket renewal request will hit our inboxes any day now. I just hope I’m not drinking anything when it hits so that I don’t have to buy clean up a mess.
You are right. The delusional ticket staff will send it out, likely with an increase and then tell us how if we commit and pay early we can get a SHU beenie!
How about this: I give you nothing. You hold my seats until I see what our team is. Then and only then will I pony up the money.

Felt, McBride, and Lyons have had 4 years to get the big donors to step up. If they haven’t been able to do it, then what is the harm in giving someone else a chance?
Not defending them but they did get the big donors to give for the practice facility which at the time (3 years ago) was the #1 priority. The timing of all this could not have been worse.

Unfortunately, It's all about bringing in money. You can replace all three of them, but at the end of the day their replacements will also fail unless big donors step up.

NBA gambling ring also tied to college basketball games

A gambling ring currently under federal investigation for its role in two NBA betting cases also was involved in unusual wagering activity on at least three men's college basketball programs this season, sources told ESPN on Monday.

Sportsbook accounts connected to the gambling ring bet against North Carolina A&T, Mississippi Valley State and Eastern Michigan in games this season, sources said.

Some of the same accounts also placed large wagers on prop bets involving former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter in two games during the 2023-24 NBA season and veteran guard Terry Rozier in 2023, when he was with the Charlotte Hornets, sources said. Porter has admitted to manipulating his performance during the games for gambling purposes; Rozier has declined to comment on a reported investigation into unusual betting on his performance in a select game.

The sportsbook accounts linked to the gambling ring also wagered on a Temple game flagged for suspicious betting last March. Sources familiar with the ongoing investigations said the ring targeted additional college basketball programs over the past two seasons.

Officials at North Carolina A&T and Mississippi Valley State did not respond to requests for comment regarding the betting case. North Carolina A&T athletic director Earl Hilton did tell ESPN in an email that the recent suspension of three basketball players was for a violation "of well-established team rules" but declined further comment, citing privacy laws.

Eastern Michigan officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"The NCAA takes sports betting very seriously and is committed to the protection of student-athlete well-being and the integrity of competition," the NCAA said in a statement to ESPN and other media outlets. "The Association works with integrity monitoring services, state regulators and other stakeholders to conduct appropriate due diligence whenever suspicious reports are received. Due to confidentiality rules put in place by NCAA member schools, the NCAA will not comment on current or potential investigations."

Betting integrity monitors have flagged two games this season involving Eastern Michigan (Dec. 21 vs. Wright State and Jan. 16 vs. Central Michigan). In both instances, sportsbooks noticed suspicious betting activity against Eastern Michigan the first half, according to alerts sent out by Integrity Compliance 360 (IC360), a firm that monitors the betting market for irregularities.

Veteran bookmakers and professional bettors have been tracking unusual betting activity on college basketball games dating to last season, gambling industry sources told ESPN.

Sportsbook sources in the U.S. and offshore pointed to suspicious betting on the first half of a Jan. 9 game involving North Carolina A&T and Delaware. The point spread on the first half moved from Delaware -2 to -3.5. The point spread on the full game closed at -4.5. First-half lines typically are equal to or around 50% of the full-game point spread.

Five men -- Ammar Awawdeh, Long Phi Pham, Timothy McCormack, Mahmud Mollah and Shane Hennen -- have been charged with conspiring with Porter, a fringe NBA player with a gambling debt, to manipulate his performance so the group could profit from prop bets on his statistics in two games during the 2023-2024 season. Porter removed himself from both games after playing only a few minutes.

Porter, Pham, McCormack and Mollah have pleaded guilty in the case. Awawdeh and Hennen are in plea negotiations with the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of New York, according to court documents.

Federal authorities also are reportedly scrutinizing a 2023 game involving the Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans, which drew unusual betting interest on Rozier. He played only nine minutes before removing himself from the game, citing a foot injury, and did not play the rest of the season.

The NBA said it investigated the matter and cleared Rozier, who has not been accused of wrongdoing or criminally charged. The NBA is cooperating with investigators from the Eastern District of New York, according to a statement from the league.

Adam, Heim Claim Dueling BIG EAST Athlete of the Week Honors

NEW YORK – In the aftermath of a hotly-contested Senior Day meet against a BIG EAST foe, sophomore Toma Adam (Bacau, Romania) and graduate student Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) have been named BIG EAST Male and Female Athlete of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced Monday.

Adam and the Pirates felled Georgetown, 177-123, in a heated BIG EAST clash in Imperatore Natatorium. In both relay events, he provided the Pirates with strong opening and closing legs, leading to two wins. Individually, Adam claimed a dominant quarter-second victory in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 20.55. He followed that up after a quick break with a third place in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 46.79.

For Heim, despite a Pirates loss, she flourished with a pair of dominant individual victories. When she touched the wall first in the 200 Freestyle, she was five-and-a-half seconds clear of the next closest swimmer with a time of 1:51.52. Heim followed that up with a one-and-a-half second victory in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 51.94.

The Pirates return to action on Monday, February 24, at the SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio, for the first day of the BIG EAST Championships. Prelims are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

McBride was the halftime guest on the radio broadcast of the Creighton game.

I'm sure the audio is archived on Shupirates.com.

I'd agree I'd like to hear more from him but I fear the reason we don't is because he has nothing to tell us. The product is a tough sell right now and his job is akin to selling ice to eskimos.
Thanks, will check that out.

I'm inclined to agree, but again, silence is worse than bad news. If people don't see you or hear you, they presume you aren't doing anything. It's an unfair take, but I believe that to often be true in this space.

Tell people what trees you are barking up and let them know they didn't succeed. In no other world can you continually ask for more and leave the investors completely in the dark. This is a new world. We aren't "donating" money anymore. These are investments in the program, with the payoff being wins and championships. If I give money, the team fails, and you don't tell me a damn thing along the way...why would I invest with you again?
