NEW YORK / IRVING (April 25, 2024) -- Seton Hall will host Oklahoma State on Dec. 8 at Prudential Center in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle, the conference offices announced Thursday.

The lone meeting in the all-time series between the two programs came in the Sweet 16 round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament in Syracuse, N.Y. where the Cowboys edged the Pirates, 68-66, ending a miraculous and memorable run to the tournament's second weekend. This will be The Hall's first home game in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle since 2021-22. The Pirates had visited Big 12 foes Kansas and Baylor the last two seasons.

The Battle matchups are jointly determined by the two conferences, with the home team choosing the venue of its game. Broadcast arrangements for the contests will be determined by the national television rights holder of the home team, which is FOX Sports for the BIG EAST and ESPN for the Big 12.

Game times and television networks will be announced when available.

Pirates Sign JUCO Transfer Savanna Jones

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall women's basketball head coach Anthony Bozzella announced today that Savanna Jones (Eden Prairie, Minn.) has officially signed a national letter of intent to attend the University and play for the program beginning this fall.

"I'm really excited that Savanna has decided to join our family," Bozzella said. "Her ability to catch and shoot, as well as defend the basket will fit in perfectly in our system."

A 6-foot-1 forward, Jones transferred from junior college, North Dakota State College of Science where she averaged 13.3 points and 7.7 rebounds in 35 games played. Named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference First Team, Jones helped lead her team to a 28-7 record and the Region 13 Championship last season.

Prior to college, Jones was a four-year standout at Eden Prairie High School, where she was named a team captain. A two-time All-Conference selection, she helped her team to a total of 78 wins over four years and two sectional titles.

NFL Draft

It's that time again where ESPN+ starts to post their mock drafts.

Since it's always behind a paywall I will just post Giant/Jet info

Kiper

6. New York Giants

Rome Odunze, WR, Washington

The Giants are coming off a disastrous season in which they ranked 29th in points scored per game on offense (14.0), 30th in yards per play (4.5) and 32nd in sack rate per dropback (12.8%). That was with only six games from Daniel Jones, though, and the quarterback should be recovered from his knee injury by the start of the 2024 season. So what's the best way to make sure that doesn't happen again? Get Jones some help. They have too many Nos. 2 and 3 receivers. Odunze, who caught 92 passes for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, could be their No. 1 guy.

10. New York Jets

Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia

How far could Bowers fall? My guy Field Yates got a lot of stick for slotting him to the Seahawks at No. 16. The reality is it's tough to find an ideal spot for Bowers in the top 10 because of the depth of the quarterback, offensive tackle and wide receiver classes. Each of those positions is valued higher than tight end. So while I love him as a prospect -- he's No. 8 on my Big Board -- it might take a trade for him to land in the top 10.

That is ... unless the Jets take him here. Think about it: Aaron Rodgers is returning, they have a void at the position and they might jump at the opportunity to add a pass-catching tight end with rare run-after-the-catch ability. There's a natural fit. And yes, New York has a bigger hole at offensive tackle, but what if it doesn't totally love its options here? I always say -- drafting strictly for need will get teams into trouble. So even with Olu Fashanu (Penn State) on the board, I'm going with a Bowers-Jets connection.

Felton….

Came across a YouTube video of a feature on him by a local Charlotte News program I guess after he committed to us. Seems like a high quality get; another big PG with hopefully some shooting ability. We get so caught up in tracking transfers we lose sight of the HS recruits.

Any insights on this guy and is it possible he can be at least a quality backup to Kadary (assuming he is back) this year?

Shaheen’s relationships with his players……

Realize the player exodus to the Portal more than likely driven more by $, PT, etc.., but you can’t help to think that Shaheen’s edge and possible hardline approach with some players isn’t fueling this situation we have. There’s a balance. Not that I have any reason to think that Shaheen has issues, but curious if there is an informed take on this.

Pirate Blue Fund

Some of what I read indicated at the website that I could specify I want the donation to go to a specific sport like men's hoops. However in navigating the web page Pirate Blue there is no option in the online drop downs to designate a specific sport.

Am I missing something?

Should I just send a check with a letter indicating my wishes and hope it goes to the right place?

I just sent in my annual donation to SHU with a extra money requesting that a part of it go to Pirate Blue and NIL but I just got a call that they can't split the check.

So I want to send in a separate donation.

RIP Mike Cocco

Today is a sad day for those close to the Seton Hall baseball program as the news broke that Mike Cocco passed away.

Those of us who were in school in the mid-80's know and remember Cocco as the manager of the baseball team. Cocco kept the scorebook and was involved in many aspects of the program under Coach Sheppard.

A prep grad, Cocco was Seton Hall through and through and a great guy.

My condolences to his wife Beth and his children Michael and Molly.

Rest in peace, my friend.
