SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall baseball team rallied late from a 3-0 deficit, but a ninth inning Creighton home run proved to be the difference in the Pirates' 4-3 loss in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
With the Pirates trailing 3-0, Seton Hall's offense finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) doubled down the left field line. Sophomore Chris Villa (Staten Island, N.Y.) followed with a towering opposite-field home run, the first of his career, to cut the deficit to 3-2.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, The Hall drew even. Freshman Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.) reached on an infield single to lead off. Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.) advanced him to second on a well-executed sacrifice bunt. Freshman Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.) followed with an RBI single through the left side to tie the game at three.
Turning Point:
With one out in the top of the ninth inning, Creighton's Isaac Collins hit a solo home run over the right field fence off Pirate reliever Ryan Testani (Shelton, Conn.) to give the Bluejays a 4-3 advantage.
