Bernie in Bethlehem

Socialism is state ownership of production and services. Bernie is not advocating for that, so I will defend that he is not a socialist.

That was another comical moment of the town hall; when the avowed Trump hater Kathy Harrington gave that BS lovey dovey definition of socialism (which was vastly different than the more accurate one you cited) as she framed her question to komrad Bernie.

The good news here that Bernie is the frontrunner. Hopefully he wins the primary.

This country will never elect a socialist president in my lifetime.

If he is the Democratic nominee we are guaranteed to have four more years of Trump.

While I try to avoid schadenfreude, I will take great delight in the agony that will inflict on liberals!
Bernie winning the primary could be a repeat of what Trump did in 2016. Bernie has a passionate base which is larger (and more dug in) than any of the other 20. This is like the NCAA...survive and advance. Probably why Biden is sitting on the sidelines to be the defacto HRC this time around. He’ll only jump in if Bernie gets traction to prevent him from getting the nomination. Deja vu all over again?

I think Bernie has a ceiling. ;)

Are there any dems running you could see yourself voting for in a general?

The problem I have with hearing the term Medicare for all is that the average idiot thinks of it as Care for all. The other soft term that is used is single payer system.

it should be call what it is which is federal government controlled insurance with no competition.

Given the financial state of the VA, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, The last thing I want to see is the government controlling the entire healthcare sector without any competition.

If you think Bernie has a ceiling, then you might as well just hand him the nomination out… LOL

From the Democratic field Tim Ryan, John Delaney and Tulsi Gabbard resonates most with my valuing leadership and some of their positions. You?

Again, I really don't think it is something you would have to worry about.

My expectation if a democrat wins, there will be some compromise here and they may lower the age requirements or offer opt ins or offer pools for small businesses or something.

If you want to get into a completely different dimension of discussion the government's incompetence with financial oversight we can talk about the military.

Although I served and I'm proud of that service I am appalled at the overall management of the military.

Is it bit of a sacred cow and I always hesitate to start this discussion.

Google the military pay tables and calculate the cost of an enlisted person with a mediocre 20 year career. Factoring the retirement, other allowances, medical benefits, housing benefits, food benefits, PX and commissary benefits, golf courses, recreational facilities, and your head will spin.

Very large portion of people who serve in the military never get near combat or any danger zone. I'm talking about clerks in mechanics who spend their entire career stateside. A kid with just a high school education can retire at age 38 with lifetime payment that has a $700,000 present value. That excludes health insurance which is an addition to that.

How many 38-year-old mechanics without a college education do you know that have save $700,000 in a 401k

So this sounds like the same kind of strategy where you say you want to build a wall and compromise ultimately for increased funding for border security. Asking for a friend.
