Butler Game Thread

Bad job by him getting his 3rd via that tech.
Butler's defense is sound but they aren't this good on that end of the floor. Our guards/wings should be able to get into the lane and make shots.
Plenty of game left here. I think our defense, hustle and energy has been good in holding Butler in the 20s.

19 minutes and 23 seconds before we got our first assist of the half....a kickout from Ish to Powell for 3 after an offensive rebound. Ridiculously ineffective offensive half.
ONE stinking assist. How is that not a reflection on the coach given the talent on this team?

I'm expecting a big half from Carrington, Desi, Delgado, and Powell and for this one to come down to the wire.

It's unbelievable. Do people want newcomers to see this game? Who in their right mind would want to come back. "Hey Mommy, how come the blue team only scores a few times in the game?".
This is not about talent. We have good talent at most positions. You see how when Butler plays offense, they have guys running routes? They'll pass. They'll set picks. They'll do those things multiple times, and then after about 15 seconds someone will be completely open for a jump shot. That's called a half-court offense. This isn't just about "Oh, the shooting is off tonight guys".
The problem is we don't put people like Powell in a position for a wide open three with a second to set his feet. It's been this way for 7 years. If you've got a five star point guard that can do everything it can help you cover that up for a season.
What about his last shot. lowering his head and plowing to the rim. I thought that was worse
A few things:
1. Angel was fouled 2 out of 3 of his first 3 shots...has to keep shooting
2. We had so many picky fouls called on us.
3. Why was Jones shooting in the first 10 minutes and not Carrington.
4. Khadeen has to keep shooting, need him to take over the game and has to take more shots.

Ok that was brutal. Even the free throw misses are bad shots.
The good news is that Butler is only up
By 7. So their fans might be saying we should be up by a lot more.
Carrington isn't going to impose his will unless he gets more help. Desi and Angel were really bad in that half

I saw a middle-aged man with a Hudson Catholic jacket behind our bench and a couple of kids with him. Must be the coach and a couple of the "fab five". Wonder what they're thinking.
Well, there's still 20 minutes to go. Maybe we can do a 180.
Desi messed up, but it was the first time this year for him. He's been a model citizen up til now. With 3 fouls on Desi, Willard may just have to go with the 3 guard lineup lineup to start the second half.

What he did was stupid...ageed. But this is not the time for a 'teaching moment'. He's gotta play but start the half small with Powell in there and bring Desi in at the first TV timeout.
Jones is our best offensive player right now. Sorry but that is a problem.
Desi is so frustrating...He can do that at will every play. No one on Butler can even try to stop that.
Agreed. They had a poor shooting half just like we did. The difference is they had a bad shooting half by missing open shots.
Thought the same initially, but we need him tonight. He should be able to get buckets against this team at the rim and in the paint all day, as well as knock down some J's once they start playing off him.
Angel inside and Desi taking it to the rack. Will open up J's for Powell. And if KC comes back he needs to keep taking it to the rack. That is how you beat Butler.
