Butler Game Thread

Looking like NIT. Killer loss. Not a very good team and poorly coached.

You don't go to the NIT if you aren't at least 50% in conference. No guarantees. About 45% of every game it's head in palms wondering what the hell is going on. Offense is putrid. It looks good when we hit the contested circus shots. It looks like garbage when we aren't (which is most of the time when we play good teams).

Butler plays basketball like a football game. If the ref's do not call fouls on Butler on our drives, or they allow them to come over the top and thru rebounder's then they are tough to beat. Butler struggled to beat DePaul, if we hit our shots 3's, 2's lay ups and the ref's call fouls on our other misses on drives to the basket- then we win this game.

Last year Fla St, Alabama, and Ga Tech were all under 500 in conference play. But, yea good point.

Hate to sound like sour grapes but the refs were pretty bad from the git-go ..Desi was fouled on EVERY drive..not a whistle.

Couldn't you say that about every basketball team ever?

Perhaps I should have phrased it better. It's maddening watching the Jekyll and Hyde nature of this team. The disparity between their play in the first half of games to the second half is crazy. There are signs this team could be much better than their record reflects, but you never know which version of the team you're going to see in a given half.

Delgado was like a man against boys again on the boards. He reminds me a lot of Wes Unseld. He is trying to put the team on his back.

Butler played football vs Desi in the 1st half. He was fouled numerous times on his drives into the lane.

That is how Butler plays, foul with the body on drives and hope the ref's do not call a foul. Then lower your head and drive hard to the rim. A fair whistle from the ref's,mainly one ref and we win this game. DePaul got a fair whistle at home.

The officiating was fine, as it usually us.

We lost because we struggle to score, struggle to get good looks, and struggle to hit free throws at a decent clip.
