I heard family members complaining because they think another family member is claiming close contact so the in laws don't have to stay his place.

I mean, what did you expect? I think most of these people just got the tests to make it seem like they were doing something responsible, not thinking they were going to be positive.

Very similar to the thinking behind mask mandates. It's people "doing something" just for the sake of doing something.
