Enough is Enough: The Leadership Failures at Seton Hall

Hard to know who has what.

Plenty of teams with the rumored strongest NIL are having poor seasons. So the coaching matters too. As does the scouting and development because certain kids who the rumor mill says got significant NIL haven’t performed. Nova was a prime example of that last year.

But this isn’t all on Sha, as I’ve stated repeatedly.
The flaw in P4P with annual free agency— you could pay these guys but there is no guarantee that they will perform up to expectations in that one year. Then they could be gone.

Unfortunately, that’s incredibly wishful thinking.
Also, if it was that simple, wouldn’t many more teams take that approach? They don’t, because it doesn’t work.
It’s not an apples to apples comparison, but no one in MLB wants to be the Rays. You are only the Rays if circumstances are such. And it’s harder to be successful, but often times they do it to varying degrees.

No different than pro sports. Teams miss on players or don’t coach them up. Or both. The better orgs miss less. It actually helps that stuff is year to year so a team isn’t straddled with a long term obligation that doesn’t work.

Hank should stay in his lane. If he wants to retire, let’s his personal choice but migrating over to the school should not be an option. Leave running an institution of higher education to professionals who are properly trained, it’s not a hobby or something one does in retirement.

Lyons should have found a new school by now. He was passed over and should move on. He is not effective and we are experiencing the results of his failed leadership.

Felt needs a boss. He is an administrator but nothing more, he has reached his ceiling, but has a roll.

Pirate Blue has to be repurposed and expanded. Fold Onward into the same umbrella and hirer a staff with a proven fundraising track record.

Stop thinking small.

The thing that disturbs me from the outside was the whole Nyre situation. He actually seemed like the most competent President we've had in my experience and it sounded like he told the BOR what they needed to know rather than what they wanted to hear. Marino looked like a complete _ss with some of his public actions and statements. I don't have an insider view, but I can see dysfunction and we have a lot of it. I don't see how the BOR can be defended as there is too much smoke with the embezzlement, Nyre, the utter failure on an NIL plan and Riley. And what happened to McBride? Is he in witness protection? It starts at the top, but that is not happening.

All the BS posts after the original posts are taking away from the message. ALL MUST GO.

Felt had TWO chances to get NIL correct and both times he hired a friend instead of taking it seriously.
Funniest/saddest part is a brand new, state of the art practice facility with nobody worth a damn to practice in it. If I’m the people who footed the bill for it, I’d demand answers. Screw the peons who were dumb enough to think their beer money NIL donations mattered. It’s the deep pockets who thought they were doing the failing basketball program and university a service that should be enraged. I’m sure it’s in motion. Heads must roll or they can accept playing basketball in front of nobody except for their teammates, with zero eyeballs on the tv except for the opposing team’s fanbase, and being the laughingstock of the Big East as the norm. I’m over it and when I look around, I’m in the majority. Hope we figure it out before it’s too late.

Lyons is paid nearly 900k per year. Needs to go. Felt is upwards of 350k per year. Needs to go

Both played a direct role in the complete mismanagement of university strategy and preparedness for NIL.

I'm not going to say you're wrong, but what confidence do you have we will get better people? Every time we're convinced we can't go lower, we find a way. It's gotten to the point, it's actually impressive. It's almost like they believe we should be going below the bar instead of above it.

The question that needs to be answered is given the schools reputation and its current financial position hiring replacements who are skilled and have the ability to turn this mess around will not be easy.

I have no confidence seton hall will make the necessary moves or hire the right people.

There is no need to be carrying Lyons compensation at that level,

The problem right now is that it’s very unclear who is running the school and is in a position to objectively assess what led to the situation we’re now in and determine what needs to be done. I think everyone was hoping Hank would be the guy, but now there’s doubts given how he came out and supported the new Pres.

I am absolutely baffled that the Chairman of our Board and the President have yet to step down. Their continued presence is inexcusable.

Having handled cases involving sexual assault at major institutions, I have direct experience with how organizations navigate these crises. I’ve worked on:

  • 8,000 clergy abuse cases
  • 2,000 Mormon Church cases
  • 40 Larry Nassar cases (Michigan State)
  • 25 Dr. Anderson cases (University of Michigan)
  • 3,000 Boy Scout cases
With the exception of the clergy, nearly every institution above acted more decisively in severing ties with individuals connected to these scandals. The failure to do so here is not just shortsighted—it’s outright negligent. How are we still in this position?

In an era where institutional accountability is paramount, their collective failure to act swiftly and decisively is beyond negligent—it is outright disgusting. They have not only failed the university, but they have actively endangered its reputation, its students, and its future.

I ran an international consulting firm for decades and there was one clear fact in every case. Those who created the negative outcomes in an organization were never able to create positive effective change. I love Seton Hall, but if she was my client I would seriously challenge this Board and President to create positive opportunities out of the local chaos. Sadly, I believe that insular thinking and negative posturing will be the order of the day.

This was our strategy this year.. guys trying to showcase talent who were so called dogs.. the strategy didn’t work
Dual is anything but a dog, he is lazy guy who averaged 2ppg last year. The word was out on him last year. I am talking about under the radar guys at low majors who work hard like Bediako, or look what the Drake Coach is doing with former D2 guys

Bediako was great find but I think it led to the coaching staff thinking they could strike gold repeatedly. IMO a program can’t be run that way in the NIL era. Really, bring in a bunch of D2 guys? This is the BE, not the MVC. If this group has a hard time competing, just imagine what a bunch of D2 guys would do.

Aligned with this take, also we have to stop with the status quo and these yes men. We need someone young and brash like @jcalz88 something new to usher us into this new era. I am sick of these figure heads who just exist and don't want to ruffle any feathers

Creighton brought in a d2 transfer (maybe 2/3 seasons ago) who came in and averaged 14pts and 8Rbs. Duncan Robinson is another name from the d2 success ranks at Michigan. It’s not that crazy of an idea,

His play last night drove me crazy but I dont see him as lazy. And it is obvious her teams did better building their roster.

Our offense is so stagnant and lacking options. Pass it 10 times before it crosses the foul line. And end up back where it started. If someone cant get a good shot off the center's pick nothing good happens. So next possession, lets do it again

Right now the focus needs to be on the the school and its leadership or lack thereof, not the men's basketball team. There are some serious shortcomings that need to be addressed. Lack of transparency and truthfulness are the first points that come to my mind.

Do you not find it suspicious a rival coach would give Sha an endorsement on one of his players? Read the tea leaves there was plenty of rumblings of his bad work ethic and his tardniess to practices etc... I have said too much

Drake won at K state by double digits. K state is top 5 NIL payroll in country. Drake also beat vandy by double digits who is ranked top 25 right now playing in the #1 conference in the country. Get some ball knowledge

You can still find dogs with a lower budget though, this NIL is just a cop out. How many major conference teams are there? now how many major mins are avail? There are guys out there who want to showcase talent on a bigger stage. Focus there and not crying about money
Compare NIL budgets in the top conferences to where they are in the standings

agreed, and I use that same argument with assistants. Some people say assistants don’t matter - well if that’s true why do schools pay them $700k a year?
Because we are seton hall and not michigan. They dont care all that much

So elaborate on it then.
I have done many times. The smear of the Msgr and the ridiculous smear of Hank. All while bemoaning the NIl and claiming that giving rates are solely the fault of the school. No the giving rates reflect a much deeper issue with our alumni base.

This site has become a cesspool.

The complaints about the team, the results of the portal and even Sha’s coaching ability are fair. But it goes beyond the pale. And all done behind a non de plume.
