Four Pirates Notch Multiple Victories in Win at Rider, 178.5-119.5

Lawrenceville, N.J. – The Seton Hall men's swimming and diving team kicked off its season with a victory over Rider on Saturday afternoon by a score of 178.5-119.5. Kevin Cary (West Chester, Pa.), Justen Lopez (Levittown, N.Y.), Michael Klimaszewski (London, England) and Quinn Murtha (Cumming, Ga.) each picked up multiple individual victories on the afternoon, while the 400 Medley Relay team set the pool record en route to a first place finish.

Klimaszewski, fresh off winning four BIG EAST titles at February's BIG EAST Championships, started his season with a bang. The sophomore swept the Butterfly events, first taking the 200 Fly with a time of 1:53.16. Klimaszewski later touched the wall first in the 100 Fly in 49.86. He along with Cary added a third win on the day in the 400 Free Relay to wrap up the dual meet.

Cary's two wins came in Freestyle events, first in the 200 Free which saw him clock a time of 1:41.32. The sophomore would later add a win in the 100 Free, posting a time of 46.05.

Lopez picked up wins in the 100 Breast and 200 Breast on the afternoon. The graduate student recorded a time of 57.60 in the former to notch the win before finishing in 2:10.28 in the latter for his second victory.

Murtha, the reigning BIG EAST Champion in the 1-meter and 3-meter dive, picked up victories in each event to begin his season. The junior posted a score of 278.48 in the 1-meter to finish just ahead of teammate Trevor Post (Bay City,Mich.) in second. Murtha would later put up a score of 285.83 in the 3-meter dive for his second win of the day.

Three other Pirates also picked up individual wins on the afternoon. Sean Vizzard (Mount Laurel, N.J.) opened the meet with a win in the 1000 Free in 9:36.64, just ahead of second-place Clil Halevi (Kafar Hadranim, Israel). The two would trade places in the 500 Free later in the meet, with Halevi picking up the victory and Vizzard taking second. Toma Adam (Bacau, Romania) picked up a win in the 50 Free in his first collegiate meet with a time of 21.25.

The 400 Medley Relay team capped off the meet by setting the pool record in their victory. The quartet of Klimaszewski, Adam, Gideon Langenbusch (Oberhausen, Germany) and Cary combined to finish with a time of 3:06.04.

The Pirates return to action on Oct. 21 as they travel to Lewisburg, Pa, to compete in the Bucknell Fall Invite.
