Pirates Wrap Up Day One at BIG EAST Championships

Indianapolis, Ind. – The Seton Hall men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the first night of competition at the 2024 BIG EAST Championships on Wednesday night at IU Natatorium.

The Pirates swam in a pair of relay races on the first night of the four-day championships event. The meet kicked off with the 200 Medley Relay which saw The Hall touch the wall in third place. Chris Jackson (Maywood, N.J.), Ben Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.), Michael Klimaszewski (London, England) and Toma Adam (Bacau, Romania) combined for a time of 1:28.31 in the event.

Later on, the Pirates would claim a fourth-place finish in the 800 Free Relay. Klimaszewski, Gideon Langenbusch (Oberhausen, Germany), Justin Oosterwyk (Pequannock, N.J.) and Kevin Cary (West Chester, Pa.) combined for a time of 6:36.92 in the night's final event.

Heading into the second day of competition, the Pirates find themselves in third place with 62 points overall.

The Hall Posts Strong Showing on Day Two of BIG EAST Championships​

Indianapolis, Ind. – Sean Vizzard (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and Quinn Murtha (Cumming, Ga.) nabbed second-place finishes while Toma Adam (Bacau, Romania) and Trevor Post (Bay City,Mich.) each earned bronze medals as the Pirates wrapped up Day Two at the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday night.

The night kicked off with the 500 Free, which saw Vizzard and Clil Halevi (Kafar Hadranim, Israel) each finish inside the top-four. Vizzard took second overall, coming in with a time of 4:23.01. Halevi's time was 4:24.14, which was good enough for a fourth-place spot in the event.

Gideon Langenbusch (Oberhausen, Germany) worked his way into the Championship Final of the 200 IM thanks to a strong showing in prelims. He built upon that in the night session for a sixth-place finish in the event, clocking in at 1:50.02. In his first solo BIG EAST Championship event, Adam came away with a third-place finish in the 50 Free. His time of 20.28 was good enough to earn the bronze medal in the event.

On the 3-meter diving boards, Murtha and Post each had great showings which placed them on the podium. Murtha, the reigning champion in the event, finished with a score of 330.45, narrowly edging out Post who finished with a score of 330.40.

The night finished off with the 200 Free Relay, which featured the Pirates coming in with a fourth-place finish. Adam, Kevin Cary (West Chester, Pa.), Ben Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.), and Bryant LaCroix (Bloomsburg, Pa.) combined for a time of 1:21.53 in the event.

Through two days and 14 events, the Pirates sit in third place overall with 210 points. Georgetown holds the lead with 304 points.

The Pirates are back in the pool on Friday for the third day of action at the BIG EAST Championships. Events include the 100 Fly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, women's 3-meter dive and 400 Medley Relay.
 

Klimaszewski Takes 100 Fly Title, Smashes School Record on Day Three​

Indianapolis, Ind. – Michael Klimaszewski (London, England) defended his BIG EAST title in the 100 Butterfly and broke his own school record as the Pirates wrapped up the third day of competition at the BIG EAST Championships.

Klimaszewski won the race in a time of 46.47 to surpass his championship-winning time of 46.82 from last season's BIG EAST meet. The sophomore's time was also good enough to earn an NCAA "B" cut.

Klimaszewski's win was one of several top-three finishes on the night for Seton Hall. Kevin Cary (West Chester, Pa.) would soon follow with the bronze medal in the 200 Freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:38.17. Fellow Pirate Gideon Langenbusch took home a fifth-place time of 1:38.62 in the event.

In one of the tighter races of the week so far, Nick Rhodes (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) battled to a second-place finish in the 100 Back. The freshman earned his first medal with a time of 48.89. Rhodes would also open the 400 Medley Relay for Seton Hall, helping the Pirates earn a second-place time of 3:15.26 alongside Ben Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.), Klimaszewski and Cary. Endersby also reached an individual "A" final on Friday, placing seventh in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 57.71.

Through three days of competition, the Pirates sit in third place overall with 383.5 points. Georgetown maintains a lead with 550.5 points.
