Definitely the path back was 3 consecutive wins to get to 4-5 heading into the Cowboys game.I'm sure the Giants were thinking get to 4-5 and go from there. As of right now the last NFC wild card is 4-4 (either Minnesota or the NFC South runner-up).
At 4-5, they probably would have needed five wins the rest of the way. Could they have done that with a remaining schedule of @Dallas, @Washington, New England, Bye, Green Bay, @New Orleans, @Philadelphia, L.A. Rams, Philadelphia?
Those eight teams are a combined 26-28 with Dallas and Philadelphia accounting for 12 of those wins.
The returns of Andrew Thomas and Daniel Jones this week are obviously huge. They have the Raiders (3-5), at Cowboys (6-2), at Commanders (3-5) and Patriots (2-6) before the bye. You'd really have to sweep by earning a big win in Dallas to be relevant again at 6-6. Can't see that happening.
I suppose you could probably sell some hope at 5-7 given the way the NFC is going.
Despite the bad start, likely the season will be defined by the inability to score from the 1 twice in Buffalo and the Jets games.
