Hobbs to Rutgers?

seriously RU and SHU are no longer rivals and never will be again. Get over yourselves and find another school to crap on.

If SHU is not rutgers' rival why is there a clause in Eddie Jordan's contract that states he receives a $5,000 bonus every time he beats SHU? There aren't similar contract clauses in regards to other programs - but rutgers doesn't care about beating SHU or consider them a rival? Also, Eddie was hired post BigEast split so it's not like this is a legacy clause.

I would would really like to hear your thoughts on this. For the record, I feel that the rivalry has lost some juice the past in the past 5 or 6 years (maybe because I'm getting older and care less? Or maybe the rivalry is dying - IDK), but I still consider rutgers a rival.

Because Rutgers is the only Division 1 school in the state of NJ, and some people actually have state pride?

RU and Seton Hall haven't been rivals in several years but clowns like you,who still holds some irrational hatred for a school you no longer play..... is pretty hysterical.

Time to grow up, son. It's unbecoming of you.

Buggsy same question for you as I posted above. Do you find it semi-hypocritical to poke fun at the SHU poster (fanbase) for disliking Rutgers, yet you give your coach a bonus every time he beats SHU?

i think the big east made it a rival when they had the two divisions and ru and shu were paired in same division thus they would play twice a season and then even when the conf went to one division, most years ru and shu were scheduled home and home; that and the jersey deal gave it more juice than it actual has been; this from someone who attended some of the most frantic games in this series in the last 15 seasons

I have state pride. I was born and bred in the great state of New Jersey! You may want to check out a map boy because there is no state of Rutgers! I would hardly consider you Division I and I have never considered you a rival. That was a manufactured thing forced on Seton Hall by the Big East because you really have no rivals.

If you can pick any college football team in the country to root for why the hell would anyone pick Rutgers?
Uh, because it's our state school and the home ncaa football team. I have been avid SHU fan for 30 years and would always root for SHU over RU in any sport we have but I will root for RU football everyday. Get a little state pride.

I would never root for Rutgers. One of my best friends played for Rutgers baseball and I said sorry, I'll root for you but never your team.
Quite frankly, who cares that Rutgers is the "state school." It means nothing to me.

As I see it, it is a zero sum game when it comes to basketball. When has Seton Hall and Rutgers been good at the same time? Maybe you could say 1991 when RU made the tournament for the last time in their history and got knocked out in the first round while Seton Hall had one of their best seasons losing to UNLV in the Final 8?

Both teams can be crap as has been proven for the last decade. But history shows that only school can be very good during a year.

This tweet by Jerry Carino reminds me many years back when Gonzo was our coach and we opened up against Temple on the road. The Booster Club ran a bus trip and we were seated in a lower corner of the gym, a lone Hall presence. At halftime Hobbs, who was seated on the opposite side of the arena behind the SHU bench came over to thank us for making the trip talking to everyone in the group.

RAC crowd is about 3,000 at tip-off. I think Pat Hobbs talked with half of them already.

Only Division 1 school? Yeah, "We R B1G." Hilarious.

I have state pride, it's the reason I DON'T root for ru. They are a cause for embarrassment, as much as MTV's "Jersey Shore." A punch line.

To paraphrase the immortal Clubber Lang: "...I don't hate (rutgers), I pity the fool(s)..."

Big fan of Monmouth University football team.....Rowan and Montclair have historically done very well in the DIII post-season play-offs as well. There is good football in the state to root for...it's just not in New Brunswick.

You do mean, the only D1 P5 FB school in NJ, of course, and yes, I agree with having state pride regarding football. Your BB programs can languish in the seventh circle of the netherworld as far as I am concerned, but I would like to see the FB program become a solid B1G program garnering appropriate respect.

Is Bozzella an option down the road to replace the HOF coach CViv Stringer...?? He seemed very enthusiastic to thump RU in that matchup a couple of weeks ago, almost auditioning for people to pay attention to him and he doesn't get that audience if he is not playing against an RU, here in state....so of course RU may not be perceived as a rival, but it's clear that what RU means to others in state, regardless of which side of the fence you are on (pro RU or anti RU)....

I am only throwing this out there based on the climate change of revenue coming RU's way down the road. I know this doesn't mean much for a lot of women's basketball fans, but it would account for a potential change on how RU eventually will be viewed in 3 to 5 years from now if a Bozzella were to be plucked by RU down the road.

Forget Eddie Jordan and his task of being asked to clean up the Rice mess, but RU's next 3 coaches hired (football/mens basketball and women's basketball) all have a chance in the next phase in next couple of years to change how RU is viewed in the state and region. I know it's difficult to see happening, but it's much easier to function with things being put in place and the facilities that eventually get up and running.

If RU hired Bozzella away from his dream job, I'd pretty much want to go into a cave for a long long time. It would hurt - a lot.

My biggest worry and I could see it happening if Lyons goes there as well. I hope Gabe's sees that as an issue as well and gives Tony a big raise and a long term extension. Of course if I were drafting the contract I would put in a proviso that if he leaves for RU they would have to pay us $10 million as a buyout.

We should give Tony more credit. He is a SHU guy through and through. Should he use his success to make more money? Absolutely.

Someday Pat Lyons will be lured away from Seton Hall and folks will then realize what a good hire he was for Seton Hall. Noone is perfect but he's doing a good job and has been the best AD we have had in years IMO.

Hobbs was a SHU guy too. He went to Seton Hall prep, Seton Hall undergrad and worked at the university for 30 years. The guy has spent 90% of his life at Seton Hall in some capacity. Anything can happen.

Hey Charlie Brown, want to kick a field goal? I'll hold for you.

Could things change, and the sleeping giant awaken? I suppose so; but it's funny hearing about how it's imminent since before I was able to legally drink a beer.

Still hard to believe Pat Hobbs is AD at Rutgers. Unreal!

Pat received a terrific 5 year deal. There is nothing but upside as AD given the school's history. I wish him nothing but success unless RU is playing the Pirates.

That was Willard's first game as Seton Hall's coach.

There are plenty of other state schools that play NCAA football. I will root for them instead of the state embarrassment. Thanks!

NO WAY would Bozzella leave and he certainly wouldn't take a step down to go to Rutgers! You guys desperately want to be Seton Hall which is understandable but please know that none of our staff, especially Coach Bozzella, would take a step down to go to the disaster that is Rutgers!

This is all about politics both the president of Rutgers and Hobbs are Christie boys just ask him the next time he is in Jersey!

Everyone has a price, but there's an interesting piece on Tony in the new Seton Hall magazine that just came in the mail.

Also remember that as long as he's here, his kids get a free Seton Hall education. That's big for a proud alum like Tony (and his alum wife as well).
