Kavanaugh and #me too

Regarding the topic, looks like the Dems are moving to their final fallback position.

Boys and girls, today's word is temperament.

Cory Booker's latest: Ditch Kavanaugh, whether he’s ‘innocent or guilty’

Goalposts:
Kavanaugh is a rapist and sexual predator
Kavanaugh is a black out drunk who can’t remember his actions
Kavanaugh is wreckless; throws chunks of ice and gets into bar brawls
Kavanaugh doesn’t have the SCOTUS demeanor
Kavanaugh doesn’t play the subs enough on his daughters basketball team

I can live with the first four but not playing the subs is unconscionable.

One time on a job interview I was asked about my goals. I replied that I would have more goals if the motherf__kers would pass me the ball.

I just got my presidential alert text. I am waiting now to see how the Dems spin this into implying that Kavanaugh is not fit to be a Supreme Court judge.

I was just thinking about how TDS has been replaced with KDs which has allowed Trump to get more things done like renegotiating NAFTA.

DOW is up as is my 401k.

It's great having a president with testicles.

Does Kavanaugh deserve a lifetime appointment to the supreme court. That's the only goalpost and it has not moved.

Personally I think his willingness to lie under oath about stuff that isn't relevant at all instead of just acknowledging he did dumb shit as a kid should disqualify him.

Imagine how Republicans would respond if President Obama had nominated a person to the SCOTUS who:
1. Lied to the Senate judiciary committee.
2. Began his/her testimony before the committee with a borderline-nutty screed about right-wing conspiracies.

Something tells me Lindsey Graham wouldn't be supporting them.

Perjury was very important to Lindsey when he was leading the impeachment proceedings against Clinton. Now, it seems, not so much.

I am not saying he did or didn’t, but what exactly did he lie about to the committee that has been definitely proven?

Also, if the allegations are not true about him and Dr Ford, which seem to still be a possibility, I would think a conspiracy to have his nomination rejected would seem feasible.

He could have helped himself for sure by taking a different tone. He believed they were trying to destroy him and he came out swinging. Probably not the best strategy.

I think coming out swinging was a good strategy however he should’ve held off on a couple of Haymaker‘s… LOL

Exactly, and to be fair, people like Booker would probably be out there defending the nominee.

I’d bet a few posters here would reverse their positions as well though.

Nothing.

Some people have said he lied. Some people believe he lied. But none of it has been proven.

It's pretty heavy stuff when you think about it. We're trying to determine whether Boof means boffed or is it reasonable that Kavanaugh's claim that it meant farting is true.

For me it's exciting because I'm constantly looking for new words to describe farts.

It’s pretty clear he was lying about the yearbook stuff at a minimum.

He was angry he had to answer questions about it (and probably rightfully so) but that doesn’t mean you can lie to the judiciary committee. He should have just said we made up juvenile distasteful jokes that have in no way impacted my professional career. Instead he made stuff up to make it seem less plausible that he could have drunkenly assaulted Ford.

I’m glad they determined that none of his 300 opinions have any significant bearing on his ability to serve. This stuff is way more important.

Well for one, were any of those 300 rulings about farts?

Therein lies your problem.

Not sure where all of this is going but Trumps comments about Ford yesterday were unnecessary and make him look petty and dumb. He can't keep his mouth shut. Embarrassing...

Agreed. He should be more like Maxine Waters or Elizabeth Warren.

Obviously you are tongue in cheek there - funny. To be clear no one should ever want to mimic those two. One of Waters and Warren are already too many for this world. But there is nothing wrong with saying Trumps comments are ignorant because sometimes they are. Just calling it as I see it.

Most politicians are embarrassing in today’s landscape. They are all more interested in getting an outrageous sound bite out there than serving the people. If there was only a way for the people to vote to fine them or reduce their pay for spending more time playing politics than serving their constituents. That’s the biggest flaw in our system. Yes they’ve been elected, but they vote on their own pay. Imagine that in any business. It’s absurd. The only thing they have to worry about is getting re elected. Based on their states history of voting that’s barely a concern for most.

+1. Congress refuses to acknowledge that they have a 15% approval rating while they continue the insulting sound byte back and forth. They criticize Trump, but they do the same thing. There are only a handful in Congress or others that I pay attention because they seem to want to focus on their job vs. partisanship. Actually going to start a separate thread on this to see what others think.

Congress is a reflection of society. Look at the insulting sound bytes back and forth in this thread.

I'm agreeing with you more and more, lately. Drunken shenanigans from the Reagan era are one thing. If the guy held someone down and groped her (probably never will be proven or disproven), despite his stellar career and spotless family life since, he isn't fit. If he is innocent, or if it was far less serious than alleged, I feel bad for the guy and his family. He protested too much in defending himself, and (likely) perjury isn't a good look for a judge.

The Republicans should have cut bait with this guy and moved onto the next nominee. Now they've lost several weeks, and we're that much closer to the midterms, and I expect the energized base on the left to change the face of Congress. They even got a surge from a brief Yahoo news story (retracted) taking a Graham quote out of context. Sadly, Bob Menendez, who is an unconvicted criminal, will likely keep his job, due to the anti-Trump push going on. Hugin is giving him a run for his money, though.

Well, it seems pretty clear he lied about when he found out about the Ramirez accusation against him; he said he learned it from the New Yorker story when evidence (texts) shows he knew about it beforehand.

He also lied when he said that the people Ford named as at the party said "it didn't happen. That is not what they said; Leland Keyser said she didn't remember the party. As a judge, Kav should know the difference between a denial and "I don't remember."

Finally, while it is fun to make light of Senators scouring his yearbook, Kav almost definitely about this too, but for good reasons. In a vacuum, debating the definition of "boof" and "Devil's Triangle" IS silly. But in context it certainly makes the accusations against Kav much more credible, which is why Kav lied about it.

I still don't understand why Trump didn't nominate Amy Barrett. A much better choice IMHO.

Amy Barrett was a better choice for sure - no doubt about that. But if she was the choice it would be interesting what they would go after with her record. She is actually more conservative than Kavanaugh.

The whole thing is a giant shit show. We know how we got here - heavy politics from the usual suspects on both sides. Doesn't appear that we are getting out any time soon which is very bad for America.

The Hugin/Menendez thing is gonna be interesting. Hugin is a moderate. https://www.northjersey.com/story/n...-gay-marriage-njs-hugin-advertises/701075002/ Menendez is trying to change the perception on that saying he was against abortion and gay marriage years ago. Hugin has been clear he has changed his stance over the years like so many others (me and Obama are included in that - lol). Menendez is very unethical and not a nice guy for what he did with that doctor not to mention the unsavory stuff that went on and the Medicare fraud. But more importantly Menendez is part of the old guard in Washington - the same folks that get reelected and have taken us down this hole we are in. The Obama administration only went after him because he disagreed with Obama on Cuba publicly or his transgressions would have never been brought to light. I'm not a huge fan of Hugin but what the hell I'll give the guy a try - we simply need new blood in Washington because the old blood is all over the floor and not helping us a bit.

She doesn't have the experience Kavanaugh has. I think it's pretty clear she wasn't the more qualified candidate of the 2, however I do believe she was the politically correct choice. Democrats "the champions of women" had to 2 choices with her, confirm her, or attack her and show the entire country they are not "the champions of women" right before the midterms.

The question is do you pick the most qualified or the politically correct. Hopefully in 2018 we pick the most qualified, however we all know that isn't true.

Yes I was tongue in cheek.

Trump should not have said what he said and in the manner he said it. I wish he wouldn't do it. I don't like it.

As well, I get tired if the self righteous left which criticize such remarks but remain silent on more abhorrent remarks by the likes of Waters and others.

But then again, Trump is the POTUS and should be held to a higher standard.

Maybe you should contact the FBI. Clearly, you have insights and knowledge of events and statements that they do not.

No insights; all you have to do is read the news; you do know what google is, right?

You do know google and most news outlets are not giving you straight facts and letting you decide the truth on your own right?

I'll read the news and accept everything they say as fact for a week if you watch Fox News and accept everything they say as fact. LOL

No insights; all you have to do is read the news; you do know what google is, right?

Google.....hmmmmm.......let me see....is that like Allepo?

All seriousness aside my point is that you are concluding that he is lying simply because you think he's lying or that you heard some other like-minded news outlet or blog say the same thing.

You're entitled to your opinion but your opinion is not necessarily fact.

My opinion is that we don't know what the truth is in this matter. we don't know if Kavanaugh is lying or not. We don't know if Ford is lying or not albeit many people think Ford truly believes that she was assaulted by someone.

At this point in time I have the benefit of the initial releases of the FBI report which says that they were unable to corroborate her testimony.

So I guess that puts us back to drinking games and farts.

Love how Dems said FBI investigation was a sham, but they were all voting No to confirm whether the report produced any evidence against Kavanaugh or not.

I love what Trump is doing for the economy, however his campaign promise of draining the swamp is never going to happen. Yes the Dems were always going to vote NO and the Republicans were always going to vote YES. This is strictly party affiliation. I haven't heard one senator say why this nominee is good or bad for their individual state and the people they represent. That's what they were elected to do, represent their state. The lady from North Dakota is going to be voted out in November, her people seem to want Kavanaugh confirmed, yet she's voting no because it's best for her party not her state. And I'm sure that goes vice versa.

I don't like Susan Collins but she really slammed the dems and Ford while performing verbal fellatio on Kavanaugh.

So much for all you pundits who thought Kavanaugh was DOA.

Thought this would be the outcome that he would be confirmed. However, this innocent until proven guilty stuff floated around to the public by the Republicans is nonsense. This is an appointment to the highest court of the land. The appointee should be beyond reproach. If this information came up ina background check of a candidate in my office, although there is nothing that could be proven in a court of law, I would pass on the person as any cloud should be disqualified. For the Supreme Court we have lowered our standard once again.

In the past, if this type of allegation came up, either side would have rescinded the choice. This is just another example of lowering the bar of our esteemed institutions. I have said in another post, that the Republicans could nominate someone even far more conservative than Kavanaugh in his replacement. I think that would have got through to the SC. But Trump wanted Kavanaugh for one reason and that same reason is why the Dems wanted off. His view on Presidential power is off the scales.

A Republican who had any dignity would have voted no and appointed a conservative judge who was beyond reproach. It was an easy call for a Republican to make. But there are no profiles in courage in the Republican Party any more sans Murkowski. Flake pulled a Rand Paul of objecting in the beginning and then folding into line like a cheap suit.
