Kavanaugh and #me too

This is a process where it's guilty until proven innocent. This nomination is dead IMO. Flake will not vote for him - it's clear he wants his John McCain moment. It's up to Murkowski and Collins and I guarantee one or both do not vote for him.

Watched 60 minutes and they were praising Flake and Coons for their compromise and that is was bipartisan etc. At the end Pelley wanted the big bang finish and asked if the FBI findings were not good would the nomination be dead and of course both Flake and Coons said yes. He should have also asked if the findings did not corroborate her story would Flake and Coons (a Dem) confirm him. But of course Pelley never asked that because the presumption they are selling is that he is guilty.

Not sure I agree. This whole process has been about politics and nothing else. Blake is trying to leave his legacy by demonstrating bipartisanship. He’s also trying to save the Republican Party.

All of the interviewees will now be questioned under penalty of perjury which is very different than sending a tweet or making a comment through your attorney. If there really is something there, don’t you think Kavanaugh would remove himself from consideration rather than subject himself to perjury?

At the end of the day this all comes down to those six votes.

Kavenaugh clearly lied to the judiciary committee multiple times. He doesn't care about perjury.

Devils triangle is not a drinking game
Boofing is not farting
Renate alumnus does not mean you are accepting someone as a part of your group

There would have been nothing wrong with him saying that he wrote juvenile fiction in his yearbook, regrets it now but it has had no bearing on his professional career. He chose to lie instead and that should be disqualifying for a supreme court nominee.

Did I miss something? Have the Democrats brought perjury charges for all of these “lies”?

No one wants to see that political shit show.
They don't need it, they just need to convince 2 republicans to vote no because of his lies.

He also lied about watching Ford's testimony, and lied about being a legacy student.
He lied about stuff that didn't matter at all.

You know he lied. It's inexcusable.

Yes, this process has been a disgrace. Yes, I don't know who to believe as far as the allegations. However, I'm surprised that there are still so many people supporting this nomination. Even if he is innocent of the assault charge, I would not vote to confirm him.

Trump should pull it and nominate Coney Barrett, who he should have nominated in the first place. Not a partisan political operative masquerading as a judge.

Lol...” no one wants to see the political shit show?” What have you been watching? That’s all it’s been.

I thought this was the right move from the beginning. She might not be the most qualified, but if the democrats went after her, it would destroy all their "for women" slogans and mottos at the midterms.

Right, no one wants a court hearing about what he believed the definitions to be at the time of his yearbook, or that he didn't know his grandfather went to Yale or that he actually did watch Ford's testimony as an aide said.

All they need to do is convince two senators that he lacked candor during his testimony.

And clearly politics have taken priority over facts Or else we would’ve gotten to those facts a lot earlier in the process.

I'm not saying it's not political. I'm just saying he clearly lied in his testimony about things that don't matter and I believe that should disqualify him for the supreme court.

The whole thing is a shit show and very bad for the country. This won't advance me too in any way. I loved the moment when they were asking him about trivial crap in his HS yearbook - completely ridiculous and all of this has no bearing on his ability to be a judge but let's keep talking about none of the stuff that really matters. Grassley should have had some rules about keeping it professional and shutting down some of the ridiculous questions but he just sat there.

And it's amazing to me that some want to nail Kavanaugh for lack of candor or lying about HS stuff. Or was it his unwillingness to answer one ridiculous question after another? You really want to hang him for that? Give me a Fn break. He didn't help himself but Petty with a capital P!

Regarding lack of candor how about the fact that Feinstein knew about the allegations as the ranking member of the Dems on the Committee. She hid it from the Committee and then she even met with Kavanaugh privately after she knew and never mentioned it? Total disregard for ethics and her role on the Committee and for Kavanaugh and Ford for that matter too who did not want to go public. And from the hearing it appears that Ford never knew that they would come and talk to her in Cali and spare her from the hearing? She implied that she was never told? Could that be true? Why - you know why. They did not respect her real wishes not to be in front of the committee and wanted the shit show.

There were plenty of moments where she looked very rehearsed but God forbid you say anything negative about her because then you will be labeled. How about the line I thought he was going to "accidentally" kill me. Totally rehearsed and she added the word accidentally I guess to show that he really wouldn't have meant it. There was a reason she wanted to prepare for the hearing for moments like that.

They played the Repubs and the Repubs have let it go on for way too long. And Kavanaugh took too much of an embattled tone too but I don't blame him because they are on a search and destroy mission and could care less about him and presume him guilty. He probably already knows the score and wants to try and clear his name.

This nomination is still DOA IMO. They should pull it and start the process with Coney-Barrett and hope they win the midterms and also hope Kavanaugh doesn't kill himself because his rep is mud. She's more conservative than Kavanaugh so maybe they will get a worse judge in the end? Sad days for the country - this will kill bipartisanship for sure - the wounds are very deep on this one. Forget about getting anything done in the future.

Great post Section112 but Kavanaugh should not give in to the disgusting, radical Alinsky tactics. I don’t think he’s necessarily DOA unless the FBI finds something significant. Flake will vote yes and so will at least one of Murkowski and Collins.

If they don't find anything I am sure that the reason will be because of the rushed and limited FBI investigation. That message is already being floated. If they do find something then its over for Kavanagh obviously. I do think he should have taken a nicer tone and that didn't help him at all.

I'm curious if Kavanaugh blacked out while drinking, how could he have done these things? I've never seen anyone who blacked out commit a crime. Actually I'm not sure I've seen person who was blacked out do anything but get dragged around or carried out.

The issue would then be he lied under oath. But can someone explain what's the big deal of blacking out? With all the senators and representatives we have on Capitol Hill, nobody ever blacked out from drinking? The guys in the military fighting for us, should we bring them home if any of them blacked out? This entire thing is a complete joke.

Blacking out doesn't mean passed out. It means you got so drunk or high that you cannot remember what you did while intoxicated. He was asked about it because they were wondering if it would be possible that he did this while being really drunk and he can't remember.

I think approaching that with a combative response denying the possibility was not the best move for him.

I found it ironic that Kav wanted the impeach a sitting president because he lied about getting a BJ (clearly a matter of national import). And here is Kav lying about all matter of things at a Senate hearing. Kav is finding out it is no fun having your whole life put on public display.

Karma?

Karma? No it's politics. Just like at this point why don't we look into what Clinton did with Jones, Broderick, etc? Shouldn't we find out? If not why didn't the people in charge have an investigation when the allegations came out?

I believe the FBI the investigated Broadderick's claims for the Starr report. Something Republicans were unwilling to do re: Dr. Ford until Jeff Flake forced their hand.

I believe you are wrong because she's still asking for one since Dr. Ford is getting one.

Not sure if the FBI investigated the Broaderick claims. Here is a list of Bill's alleged transgressions with women (doesn't include Lewinsky or Flowers):
https://www.yourtango.com/201730790...-assault-rape-allegations-list-women-timeline

Here is a good read from the Repub prosecutor on Ford's claims - maybe Hall85 is right and this has been pure politics since the start and they never wanted Kavanaugh because of his highly partisan positions in the Bush Administration and the Clintons hated him. https://www.axios.com/brett-kavanau...emo-2c3233cc-1d42-416b-af04-02700aa9a711.html

Doesn't mean what Ford said did not happen, but a lot of inconsistencies that would make most prosecutors pause.

Didn't watch 60mins. ...did Coons say after Flake's "one week/not longer" investigation if nothing changes he'd be voting for confirmation...didn't think so.

No Coons was pretty clear no matter what the outcome he would not vote no. In fact he said he hoped after another week more allegations would surface - lol. Still Pelley should at least acknowledge its possible there are two potential outcomes and he did not do that with his final question.

It’s implied though, isn’t it? I thought it went without saying that he will he confirmed unless they find out he lied about something?

Just for shits and giggles. If this was gang rape, how come there are 2 men who had their names mentioned. I would assume there were many more than 2 men involved in this. How come we don’t look into others. We are talking about rape. If there was gang rape nobody should walk away without being investigated. Gang rape is a serious allegation all the others involved should be punished too. They only care about 1 person in a gang rape is a disgrace to Dr. Ford.

Not so sure about that? I'm not sure about anything at this point. Another week goes by and who knows what Flake and Collins and Murkowski do. Flake is loving the attention he is getting... Maybe the Dems are playing that up and trying to make him a hero? He seems to be enjoying the attention.

This all comes down to satisfying Collins, Murkowski and perhaps Mancin and Heitkamp. Flake looks like he’s trying to leave a legacy as someone who wanted to reach across the aisle (you know that term phonies from both parties used at McCains funeral but can’t live by for five seconds?)....and he’s giving cover to the swing vote group....wouldn’t doubt he tries to use this moment for a Presidential run as well.

I was willing to support him up until the point where I found out that he threw ice in a bar.

That simply cannot be tolerated.

Probably not a good look that your character witness saying you weren’t an aggressive drunk went to jail because of a bar fight which was started because you threw ice at someone though.

Right on cue!

Sentence structure aside.

Not sure where all of this is going but Trumps comments about Ford yesterday were unnecessary and make him look petty and dumb. He can't keep his mouth shut. Embarrassing...
