Most Americans now agree with Colin Kaepernick’s anthem protest

we want our athletes to be roles models and stand up for what is right and most applaud them 24/7. But when they stand up for something people don’t like you see a reaction like the above.

I will 100% support our players if they decide to kneel or partake in any other and if you don’t think Kevin willard along with the athletics department will do the same then your in for a hell of a season.

I plead with you all to be on the right side of this one. Obviously time will tell and the winners write the history so we shall see.

We should be behind our guys 100% their friends And family members are dieing at an insane rate. They are crying out for help, will we hear it?
I applaud our guys who have been active in making their voices heard 100%! However, just like no one gives a crap about my political leanings or things I would protest while I am working (that isn’t what they are paying me for), I do not give a crap about their political leanings or things they would protest when they are representing the university in a game as a member of any of our athletic teams. The Kaepernick temper tantrums are not a part of sports, no one is paying to see that! Do that crap and you will lose fans and donations!

Jcalz you are seeking a scenario in which some of these people possibly forced marco lokar to move back to europe because he was a pacifist....unfortunately people see this as a absolute or nothing issue and they conform service in wars to patriotism and respecting or disrespecting the flag...while all should be respectful to those on memorial day, veterans day and july 4th...think about naturalized citizens who come here from iraq after either gulf conflict, japan, germany, china...they have different perspective on what the flag and being a citizen means to them as does any other person

I hope every shu sports team decides to take a knee in unity for every home event this coming season

That’s the problem, they shouldn’t be role models, they’re just athletes playing a kid’s game, but the jocksniffers want them to be to cover up their own inadequacies.

That is completely unadulterated horsecrap. Nobody is dying at an insane rate. There certainly are some serious issues that need to be constantly addressed but when you make a ridiculous statement like that, it becomes a joke.

Just a side note. I hate quoting my own post. I’m looking forward to places like Harvard just accepting people from the inner cities who didn’t get the finest education and because of it haven’t received the best results on standardized tests. Harvard seems to be awfully exclusive. I look forward to watching them lead the way and being the example we all need.
I'd be interested in knowing how many of the inner city kids can get through their studies at Harvard. If it isn't as high as the normally high standard acceptances Harvard is doing an injustice to the portion of the 4000 other kids who try to get in and then graduate. I guess at one of the most liberal universities their image of equal opportunity is very important. But they must make the opportunity work.

I hope they don’t! It is beyond disrespectful. If you want to hope for that then you are hoping the university will lose donors because that is exactly what will happen!

If these kids want to take a knee outside of representing the university then go for it. NEVER during an athletic contest!

I hope the shu student body stencils BLM and Stay Woke on the University Green and stage a mass kneel down in unity for 8 min 46 seconds the first day they can be back on campus and they stream it on every social media possible

Kneeling is expected for the church, but not ok for the Anthem? To kneel is to genuflect, look up the definition of genuflecting. Soldiers kneel for their fallen comrades.
As a career Marine Corps Colonel my Dad drilled into me the respect of the flag.
I have no problem with the burning of it either as long as it was paid for by the ignitor, many aren't made here and profits are made.
Look up how the American Legion disposes of old retired flags.
I find it more disrespectful to wear the flag or an interpretation of it. Jackets, towels, shirts, etc are left on the ground or soiled in other manners.
Personally, I would never burn one, but what people do with their property is their choice.
I will kneel in silence if I choose, not to protest, but in deference to the Marines and other service members who fought for my right to do so.

What if they did it before the second half begins? Is nobody watching then?

The ones doing this for publicity to build their own brand or celebrity will never go for that. The same reason why they wouldn’t just choose a different, more productive and less controversial forum.

Just don’t do it in the classroom and take time away from tuition paying students who want to learn!

You wish. You will definitely lose donors. Many here blame our alums and call them cheap To begin with and now you think a public temper tantrum is going to have them crawling out of the woodwork with open checkbooks!? Seton Hall definitely needs people with fundraising experience to begin with. Please don’t apply for that type of position, we don’t need to add to the problem.

Um, kneeling isn’t “expected” at a church, it’s part of the script of attending a church service. Kneeling isn’t a part of playing football or basketball.

It is part of playing football, typically the winning team uses kneel downs to let the clock expire when perserving a lead and the trailing team is out of timeouts

Be sure that you include the original equal opportunity group the entitled rich. How many of these entitled rich children really qualify for the Ivies. Some only are able to enter these schools because of an endowment and contributions. And once there they have enough pull and money (paying for others to take their tests etc)to get their degree. There is more of a problem with these students than the students you call the inner city. Being an educator for more than 40 years what is known in the educational circle is once a student is able to gain entrance to an Ivy school there is little difference in certain majors than in many other universities, in fact some of the other universities provide better instruction. But it is all about the reputation which could be best money can buy.

Many of these comments will not age well
I stopped watching football 2 years ago, my wife is happy they took a knee. I was getting curious to watch again this year, but will definitely exit again for good. I find the game of football With rule changes to be slow anyway. If SHU players took a knee, I won’t like it but I would be more understanding since their is No money involved.
I turn on sports to get away from all the BS in the world today.

Football is the most boring of the major sports in this country. Games take forever and there is far more down time than game action. I have no idea why Americans are addicted to it. I'll never understand it.

Question for yeah do you know this for sure, is this something you have spoken about with them?

Reason I ask because is if we are basing our decisions on what service members would think or feel is disrespectful why don’t we just ask them?

Because they’re LYING. They are LIARS. The real reason all these racist fossils don’t like it is bc a black guy is forcing them to think about a horrific problem that they want to continue to ignore as a part of their privilege. It’s just more “shut up & dribble”. The whole point of doing it right then & there is that you must pay attention to the issue, even if only for a second. And that makes these people uncomfortable, and we can’t have that.

And what gets them even more agitated is that he’s now vindicated & will go down in history for what he did. That annoys them even more bc once again the world is passing their antiquated & racist worldview by.

Literally no one on this board complaining has been affected in any way by any form of protest, from harmless kneeling to people finally fighting back against the police state in the streets. None of this penetrates your cushy little suburban NJ dreamworlds, or even mine frankly. How about you take a moment to think about why someone might feel like they need to do this, & stop being a whiny brat about someone literally kneeling down on one knee while a song plays? It’s absurd, and it’s been going on now for YEARS.

It dominates TV like no other sport domestically. It takes less time and stamina because there are far less games. It is geared more towards the weekend than other sports. The college game is religion and steeped in the culture in large parts of the country and the experience creates hundreds of thousands of fans annually who may not root for any other sport or really be interested in sports generally but become lifelong fans (I know plenty of people who could care less about sports but are glued to TVs on Saturday because they, their spouse, kids or family went to a school with a big football program). And last, but certainly not least, there is the gambling factor which has always been a huge driver of interest and even more so now with legalization.

My grandfathers who also served in ww2 I believe along with most of my family that they would support the kneeling effort..

My uncle, a Medal of Honor winner in WW 2 and the highest honor a Gtwn athlete can get was named after him, and my dad (Navy Captain) are rolling over in theirs graves in disbelief at how the flag and anthem are being disrespected.

Good for you. You'll be the exception. I'm not donating for our players political thoughts. I'm donating to Coach Willard to build a great program.

I don't know any sensible person who is waiting for hot political takes from 18 year olds, besides the couple jocksniffers on here

I literally have no clue who you are, nor do I care, I find it hilarious you have the insecurity where you need to mention your income at every opportunity to random strangers. Newsflash, nobody shows up to the PRU to watch Jcalz whoever you are.

First off, wow thank you for your uncles service.

in the active duty military and even retired military I have spoken with I’m seeing the opposite, so thank you for sharing that.

A poster said that donations will be pulled and I stated I myself along with other will help make it up.

You are the one that seems to be insecure about yourself.

I care about this program a ton and I also care about these kids and how they feel.

I will do my best as an alumni to make sure the school is not put in a financial position because of people like you saying you won’t support the team because our student athletes are taking a knee.

if people feel it best not to give for that reason then I am going to do my best not only give myself but also fundraise.

Ah, but there is money involved in the form of season tickets and alumni donations. Embarrass the university with one of these “look at me” temper tantrums and you can be sure there will be a shit storm for the school to deal with. They are (hopefully) getting ready for a major fundraising campaign for a much needed practice facility. Do you really want to piss off and turn away your donors pulling a stunt like this?

These kids can protest and stay politically active all they like OFF THE PLAYING FIELDS! Once you put on your uniform you should be concentrating on the competition, not throwing a “look at me” temper tantrum!

Translation...I think I make a lot of money so I can throw a temper tantrum any time I want and you should listen to me because I think I’m always right and you should too.

How much money would you be making if you threw these temper tantrums at work? Do they pay you to do a job or protest? I don’t know many companies who would be too tolerant of paying you to protest instead of doing your job. You’d be gone if you worked for me and pulled that crap.

They are gone now. But I was close to these men, especially Dad. of course. Union men, brought up as Democrats who became Reagan Republicans and loved his patriotism.
I think they would be disappointed. I am for sure.

Simple: as they said in the late 60s: "Love it or leave it". On a side note, the politically correct Hollywood types all said they were leaving for Canada when the current president was elected. They're still here. Wonder why.

Vegas: maybe you being sarcastic, but are some [here] ready to revert to the 1960's? That's progress. Sounds like Archie Bunker.
