That’s a very interesting perspective. I remember reading a piece about how Geno Auriemma recruited players. He said he spent a lot of time watching them while they were sitting on the bench and how they reacted to the coach, other players and game situations. I guess he won’t be going after Ty-Laur….lol.
100% my approach when I coached youth soccer. I wasn’t a yeller by any means, but I always encouraged effort and attitude.
The players I coached were almost always cut from other teams, “underdog” players. I trained them on the tactics, drilled skills, etc, but always told them once they step on the pitch, it’s up to them.
Coached for close to 15 years and rarely had issues with parents. Its this philosophy that I believe would make Hurley a success no matter where he goes. I’m pretty confident if he were at SHU, the results would be fantastic.
I truly believe Shaheen is cut from the same cloth. That’s why I think he’ll be an outstanding coach for years to come. This year is proof of that.
Well, I was checking out a book at the Princeton Public Library yesterday wearing my SHU sweatshirt and the Librarian says to me “that was a great win by Seton Hall last week.” See, the brand is expanding!!!
