So the President of the Board of Regents and Board of Trustees, Cardinal Joseph Tobin is launching an investigation into how he and his board did or did not follow the recommendations of the last investigation as pertains to Reilly.

1) In 2019 we hire law firm Lathan & Watkins to investigate the McCarrick situation and make recommendations.

2) Then, we hire the Gibbons Law Firm to prepare a Responsive Action Plan based on the above investigation.

3) Now, we are hiring law firm Ropes & Gray to investigate the process related to the above 2 law firms. Tobin says, "The review by Ropes & Gray will include how the findings of these reports relate to Monsignor Joseph Reilly, including whether they were communicated to any and all appropriate personnel at the Archdiocese and Seton Hall University and Monsignor Reilly, and if so, by what means and by whom."

This will just delay the inevitable. You can’t play the four corners offense and hope people forget about it.

Exactly. The delaying of the inevitable was made necessary by being able to adequately explain why they hired Msgr. Reilly in spite of the prior reports.

The firm they hired Ropes & Grey is another power firm in New York and won’t risk their reputation by doing a poor job so we have to see how this all plays out. when they issue their report .

With all the attention that Seton Hall is attracting with this issue they obviously had to respond and retaining another prominent law firm to investigate made sense .. They better respond and follow every recommendation to a T and hit a home run in who becomes its next president if Reilly is removed ,a likely outcome.

Wrong.
It was McCarrick who told Pope Francis to put Tobin in. Bishop Charles Brown had been selected by the nuncio. I am giving you inside information that cannot be found on the internet. You have no idea...

LOL. Took me about 10 seconds Googling to find your double secret “inside information” on the Internet. And according this writer it’s not even true!

"Reports" notwithstanding, McCarrick had nothing to do with making Joe Tobin a cardinal nor with his transfer to Newark. Pope Francis knew him personally from their having attended a synod together and, like many Latin American bishops, then-Cardinal Bergoglio knew then-Fr. Tobin from his time as the head of the Redemptorists, when he often visited members of his order who are very well represented throughout Latin America

Good info. I was told by Tobin himself that he developed a solid relationship with the Pope when Francis was a Cardinal. And Francis met Tobin's mother and then spent time with Cardinal Tobin's family when he was made a Cardinal. He told me that he and Francis had become friends. So whether McCarrick nominated him or not, it was the Pope who ultimately made the decision and made the appointment. A technicality but true nonetheless and Cardinal Tobin knew the Pope pretty well before his appointment.

Yeah, I'll take a priest in the Diocese's word over your Googling. Hope that's not your day job.

That is true. Tobin is part of the same group as Bergoglio and was being prepared by the pope for bigger things. Some in the Church call it the laveder mafia; others simply refer to the St. Gallen mafia.

I’m not taking a position on what’s true or not true. I’m merely observing that said priest—and quite frankly it’s disturbing to learn he’s a priest based on some of the things he posts on the board—touted his “inside information” he claimed was not available on the Internet. Yet said information was freely available.

St Gallen mafia happened long before Francis. Martini started it before he passed. The implication that Francis is part of it has been mentioned many times before. When Tobin was made Cardinal there were rumors that he could become the next Pope. Very doubtful today but those were the rumors. I found him to be an engaging guy who really listened and wanted what is best for the church long-term. I liked how he traveled alone, carried his own bag and drove his own car. He also has a soft spot for people who have been chased away by the church which I agree with.

Back to SHU, from all the people that know Msgr. Reilly, he is well respected and liked. But if he was removed for not reporting sexual abuse then he has to do the right thing and step down. Hopeful that the review is fair to all involved and we get some answers and can move the university forward.

Trusting a priest. And here I thought you were a smart guy. Boy was I wrong about you.
If I'm not smart relative to you, I may have to re-think everything. Went to SHP and SHU and had nothing but fantastic priests. If you've got angst towards the clergy, the SHU Admin from the top on down, you might as well move on and find another program to follow. Honestly, you're just here to be a jackass, and really don't care about SHU MBB at all. I think anyone here would take Catholicman's posts all day, every day over yours and the other two. Granted, it's a low bar.

Went to SHU as well, but not for the Catholic mission. I live, eat, breathe, and die all things SHU. There is no other program for me, sorry to break it to you. I am not the one throwing around insults on every post because of a difference in opinion. Get off your high horse, Donnie boy. I am not beneath you. We just see it different ways and that’s ok. Don’t like it? Sorry, not sorry. Not sure who you think you are, nor do I care, but your tone comes across as…off-putting to put it nicely. Hope you have a nice day. Talk soon, pal!

This is an off putting post. Its a gross generalization too. Lots of great priests out there. Its gotten very popular to be ultra critical of priests/clergy and unfortunately accepted in many circles which is ignorant and wrong. Lots of bad apples in all professions. I debate Catholicman all the time but I have a lot of respect for him too. You can do both.

Eh, it’s not that deep. I have priest friends too. I go to church on Sunday. Like you said, plenty of good ones and a few bad apples. I’m more so calling out @donnie_baseball because he has insulted me on multiple occasions and I don’t appreciate it. I really don’t mean anything by it. All good!
