The Nova search gets more comical and interesting each hour.

Is KW a serious candidate or more playing his current school?.

If not, KW andPitino‘s at Xavier, they haven’t moved on Collins or Cronin. Who else potentially could be there? Hurley then we have father and son and brother and brother in the big east? Do they stay in House and give it to Nardi?

What are some possible directions they go in?

Probably have an agreement with Willard?
I'm not sure if they have an agreement but I have to believe he's in the mix. Willard's response recently was Right now I'm planning on staying. That response isn't exactly saying I'm locked in here next year.

A lot of quick hitters like Texas getting right after Miller and X getting right after Pitino. Imagine Nova doesn't want to wait long.

I don't see why Willard would leave Maryland. Big donors and football school seems like a clear advantage in recruiting. Willard being in the mix at Nova should give him more power to get a pay bump at Maryland.

Villanova's player payroll is deeper than Maryland's. You have to think his salary would be about the same at either place (though it'll increase now with every win), so he might as well have more to spend on players at a place in a league where you can win a national championship (to go by the last 25 years, anyway).

And not wrestle with football. Nova remains a top job.

My guess is that Nova is going to give him first right of first refusal, but both parties respecting him to finish his tourney with Maryland. As soon as the last whistle is blown for Maryland, offer/terms to be exchanged and it’s a simple yes or no from Kevin within 12 to 24 hours. Kevin interested and Maryland like most state universities with too many stakeholders can’t get out of its own way to decide if they want to appease Willard’s demands.

So I’d say this is a 50/50 thing that will not get decided until the Terps lose.

He has an agent to handle all of that. If he's truly a candidate there's probably already been back channel discussion about what it would take to hire him.

Naturally nothing is going to come out until Maryland's season ends. Unless Kevin suddenly turns into Bill Frieder.

Well, there's no AD to fire him and say, "Maryland will be coached by a Maryland man!" like Bo Schembechler did.

If not Willard has the job, why would anyone think Nova was going to delay hiring someone when it knew it was going to fire Neptune after the road loss to Providence or for at least 1 month?

there is not a doubt in my mind that Willard is announced the coach 24-48 hours after Maryland loses. His comments about being the coach at Maryland scream i am leaving.

I think the big question is what is the domino effect when he leaves Maryland. If there is a silver lining to being 2-18, you would have to think that Sha has lost some lustre in the coaching realm. If he did leave, I have no confidence Felt could ever make a proper hire. I am sure his only phone calls would be to Copeland, Sanders Billmeir and Adrian Griffin (all who are probably not ready).

not sure anyone would want to take our job until they had clear commitments on what the Rev share/NIL situation was going to be. But hey, we’ve got the facility box checked for sure!

It’s not though. He’s doing this to leverage the revenue sharing for basketball because it’s going to go to football there and he’s not going to get enough of a cut of it to propel Maryland to a next level. He wants Maryland as a perennial Top-10, NC contender and wants that budget to do so. Right now, Maryland’s team is basically where he had Seton Hall at its peak. He wants more than that.

Villanova happens to be one of those BE schools where they can outdo a football school like Maryland for basketball and keep it prioritized with the upcoming revenue sharing. The BE has some deep pockets where – possibly depending on how all shakes out – the revenue sharing can put them ahead P4 schools that prioritize football.
