Now this looks nice

What did I say that got you so upset? What did I say that was incorrect? I would think the vast majority here donate, myself included though it is none of your business.

You don’t have to donate to see that the university truly cannot get out of their own way when it comes to fundraising. If they could maybe, just maybe our giving rate wouldn't suck so much! Dr. Nyre is supposed to be good at fundraising, I certainly hope so because we cannot keep doing what we are currently doing and hoping that the giving rate jumps exponentially because that just won’t happen.

I’m just stating the obvious. Sorry if that hurt your feelings.
My comment if you read it was targeted to the readers (that's plural), not to any one individual. And everything I posted holds weight. Even for me.

I had to make a major financial decision a few months ago and had a course in mind. But that course was not in the best interests of the school and after making a phone call and speaking to someone far more versed in the situation than I, I followed his instructions for the good of the school.

So my comments about making a call instead of just complaining, or in my case looking for guidance, is one that I followed and hopefully others will as well.

We don't always know what we think we know and when speaking to the decision makers our eyes are often opened to situations we were unaware of.

wouldn't the houses right behind the gym / rec center be Irvington, not South Orange.
I think that’s Newark, same as Ivy Hill Park. Might still be South Orange as at least some of the house are. To the left of the rec center is South Orange, back of the rec center may be Newark. Irvington Avenue is Newark on the left and Maplewood on the right. Irvington is much farther down the road. Maybe the university could petition Newark to join them and succeed from South Orange. I can’t imagine Newark would be harder to deal with.

Rather the money go towards the practice facility. This looks like lipstick on a pig.
And that’s fine if that’s where you want your donation to go. What I am saying is that there may be those who only support the volleyball, women’s basketball, baseball and soccer teams and would direct their donations there and not toward the facility for men’s basketball no matter what. There maybe others who support more than one program and would donate to more than one. I have no idea but did they reach out to alumni players and their families asking for any donations? I just get the feeling that they are leaving money on the table by not asking and not sharing plans until after the fact. For me personally, I would have donated to both the Walsh and OTC projects if I knew about them and had been asked, I’m sure there are others that would have done the same. The men’s practice facility was not even in the works at that time (or at least known to the general public). When and if they ask for donations for that project I will give to that as well. I am by no means wealthy but every penny counts.

Ok, well then maybe along with asking for donations they need to open up the lines of communication more. Let us know what is going on, what the needs are, what the obstacles are and the various ways we can help. My problem is when the university tells us nothing, asks for nothing and then complains they wish they could have done more but didn’t have the money and makes it look like it’s our fault and not theirs! We aren’t mind readers! Keep us informed, let us know what you’re thinking and let us know what we need to do to not only reach that goal but exceed that goal.

They do. As far as I know donors receive emails and magazines (I assume at a certain giving level) that update current events at the Hall.

Our AD, previously Lyons now Felt gives a monthly state of the union address as regards the school.

Pirate Blue is doing more than ever to reach out to alums, and the school, especially in the Pat Lyons era, is doing everything possible to make the college experience as positive for the students as possible. Including recently promoting an online survey. That will bear fruit in the future.

Regarding the Practice Facility. The plans are being drawn right now with negotiations taking place, This is a long and tedious procedure that when agreed upon will lead to a fund raising effort that will collect the $30-40M needed.

Hopefully while we wait for that our readers here can help out in this way https://setonhall.forums.rivals.com/threads/own-a-piece-of-walsh.43211/.

Finally, as I noted...those that have suggestions or are unhappy with the way the school is conducting business will pick up a phone and make their concerns/questions known. Complaining in silence or on a message board gets little done. Be proactive if you care that much.

Is the "snarky" comment supposed to be funny? Practicing on the court at Walsh sounds logical.
no... not trying to be funny at all.... was reacting to the use of moronic to characterize coach .. .. was wondering myself why he wouldn't practice in Walsh.... but Dan gave the rationale for that.....

You put money where there is a return if the money is limited. If you have a bunch of divisions at a company, and one has significant revenues, contributes strongly to positive national recognition, and a glaring need that has to be fixed to remain competitive, they should get the money.

I had an in depth conversation with Felt on the Walsh renovation. Their original blueprints would have costs millions more to complete. They simply couldn’t justify the cost based on a variety of factors. So they were forced to dial it back. At the end of day it comes down to money - we aren’t a state university where the state will chip in $30 million for upgrades. We don’t have an endless supply of cash and need to be strategic with how we spend it.

I would replace the seats and build another bathroom.

Having the women practice there is no rationale. Mens bball always comes first and they can also figure out how to share it. Practicing in the aux dungeon is a choice. You can also figure out how to keep people out if its meant to be super secret

I think there are a ton of fake points here :
Walsh needed to be upgraded but the money could have been spent else where but it’s fine it needed to happen for WBB and Volleyball

Willard likes to practice in the Aux gym who cares let him do what he wants.

The school does a poor job being creative in getting donations or even communicating they need money for specific projects. Our giving rate blows so would it matter ? It’s the chicken or egg , regardless get it done
