Both Madden and Lupica among others axed as they try to cut costs

They were making too much money and their numbers stood out on the payroll list.

The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that the LA Times is about to take another big hit in the newsroom. All the Tribune papers are in trouble.

This is a sad and serious situation. It's becoming harder to know what's actually going on in the world, in our state and locally. There are few reporters covering government.

In the case of the DN, their ridiculous and embarrassing Kardashian strategy has FAILED. Perhaps they should get back to covering hard news.

Yes, it is a huge issue and will lead to Pravda - left and Pravda-Right, which is nirvana for a pol.

Newspapers are taking a beating from the internet.

It's been talked about for years, but these newspapers need to make the move and discontinue publishing. They need to exist only on-line.

Printing and delivering physical copies of newspapers is expensive. Instead, create the best possible on-line experience.

Those savings can be used to rescue the news organizations.

While the internet probably had the greatest impact, I believe that the very heavy emphasis on obviously partisan "journalism," and the constant T&A has killed their credibility. The DN made a huge mistake when they copied the British tabloids.

People don't need to go to a newspaper site for titillation. There are countless porn sites, if that's what you want.

I used to consider the DN a serious newspaper, especially for NYC news. People get fed up and just stop reading.
