PROMOTION
BLACK FIVES GAME - Similar to MLB's Negro Leagues, The Black Fives flourished on the amateur, semi-professional and professional levels in cities like New York City, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Indianapolis, and Chicago, as well as in other cities with substantial African American populations from the early 1900s to 1950. The men and women of the Black Fives Era opened doors for generations of African American players and coaches.

At the start of Black History Month each BIG EAST basketball program will celebrate The Black Fives, adopting one of the teams from the era. On Wednesday, the Pirates will represent the "New Jersey Girls," wearing pregame shirts with Black Fives branding.

The University Gospel Choir will perform "Lift Every Voice and Sing" prior to the National Anthem.

NGWSD DAY – February 2 is National Girls & Women in Sports Day. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of Title IX.

LAST GAME
Senior Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) erupted for a career-high 32 points to go with 10 rebounds and seven blocks, but the Pirates fell to DePaul, 85-65, in Walsh Gym on Sunday.

Cooks was brilliant, connecting on her first nine shots, and collecting her season-high before halftime. She finished 15-for-22 from the floor for a career-high 32 points to go with team-highs of 10 rebounds and seven blocks. Her 32 points is the highest for any Pirate this season and the most since Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) scored 32 against Georgetown, on February 18 of last season.

Seton Hall trailed by only four with 2:31 left in the third, but DePaul, the nation's top scoring team, scored the last seven points of the quarter, and pulled away in the fourth by out-scoring the Pirates, 20-to-11.

Park-Lane finished with 12 points to go with six assists and five rebounds.

LAST YEAR AGAINST GEORGETOWN
Seton Hall swept the season series with Georgetown during the abbreviated 2020-21 season, defeating the Hoyas 60-52 at McDonough Arena and edging them 79-72 in overtime at Walsh Gym.

On Feb. 8, the Pirates relied on a strong defensive effort amid a poor shooting night to outlast Georgetown, 60-52. Playing in their first game after a 17-day layoff, the Pirates struggled mightily shooting the ball early, but found their touch in the fourth quarter. After shooting just 19.7% from the floor through three quarters, The Hall was 10-for-15 (67.7%) in the defining fourth quarter.

Eleven days later, Lauren Park-Lane scored a career-high 32 points and Andra Espinoza-Hunter added 26, including a game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation, to lift the Pirates to a 79-72 overtime victory. Espinoza-Hunter drained a game-tying three-pointer with only seven seconds left in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. That's when Park-Lane took over, scoring 13 of her 32 points in the extra session.

SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
The Hoyas are predicted to finish ninth in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference, according to the Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Hoyas return their top four scorers from a year ago, including Milan Bolden-Morris and Kelsey Ransom, who are both averaging over 12.0 points per game.

Georgetown is off to a 7-10 start during the 2021-22 campaign, including a 2-7 beginning to their BIG EAST slate. The Hoyas had lost six straight games until they defeated Butler on Sunday, 78-62, in D.C. Bolden-Morris leads the team with 13.8 points per game and was named to the Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.

UP NEXT
Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, February 4 when it heads to Cincinnati for a BIG EAST contest at Xavier. Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed live by the BIG EAST Digital Network and available to FloSports subscribers.

Andra Espinoza-Hunter scores 25 and Lauren Park-Lane adds a double-double in a statement victory.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's basketball team set a program and BIG EAST Conference single-game record with 19 made three-pointers in a 91-62 rout of Georgetown in Walsh Gym on Wednesday, which snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Pirates got huge efforts from three of their stars with Andra Espinoza-Hunter (Ossining, N.Y.) leading the way. The graduate student tied her season high with a game-best 25 points on the strength of 7-for-9 shooting from three-point range. Junior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) notched her third career double-double with 20 points and a game-high 10 assists, while Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio) notched a season-high 17 points, fueled by five made three-pointers.

In all, the Pirates were 19-for-31 (.613) from three-point range to set the program record by two.

Seton Hall led for the vast majority of the contest, and pulled away with a game-defining 19-4 run in the second quarter.

The Story:
Seton Hall began the game on fire from long-range, draining four of their first five shots from three-point range to grab an early 12-9 lead. The Pirates maintained a solid advantage throughout the opening quarter, leading 23-17 after one. Espinoza-Hunter scored 13 points in the first 10 minutes going a perfect 5-for-5 from the field.

The Pirates took firm control of the game in the second quarter. Already leading 29-21, The Hall went on a game-changing 19-4 run, fueled by four made three-pointers, including three by Jackson, to take a commanding 48-25 advantage with 3:43 to go before halftime. Seton Hall took a 53-32 lead into the break after shooting 58.8% from the floor and going 12-for-19 from three-point range in the first half.

Seton Hall started the second half cold from the field, going without a field goal for the first 4:25. The Hoyas couldn't take advantage though as consecutive scores by Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) and Park-Lane boosted the Pirates' lead back to 58-38 with 4:33 left in the third. Georgetown cut its deficit to 14 points late in the quarter, but a three-pointer by Jackson with three seconds before the buzzer boosted The Hall's lead to 69-52.

A tale of two leagues.

UConn, DePaul, Creighton, Marquette and Villanova are all 7-3 or better in league play.

Seton Hall, Providence, St, John's, Georgetown, Xavier and Butler are all 4-7 or worse in Big East play and under .500 overall.

Butler is an unsightly 1-17 (0-9) with 15 double digit losses. Nine of those losses are by at least 20 points. Six by 25 or more. Their worse loss is a 95-44 loss to Creighton. Of their nine BE losses their closest is 14 points. Naturally our first meeting was postponed so we haven't played them yet.

Said it a few times, as Andra goes so go the Lady Pirates. 0 points vs DePaul, 25 vs Georgetown shooting 7-9 threes. Very talented player but the inconsistency is puzzling.
