Pitino

some people on this board are really going to HATE this comment, considering it makes them look like a fool for their comments the entire year.

this should put this to BED that dre and richmond left because they don't like sha. guess those big time sources came up short! LOL.

sad state of affairs in ncaa. this is exactly what we saw coming
What about when Pitino told KW NOT to take our job and told basically the whole media world

I posted a while ago that when SHU becomes the butt of DePaul level jokes, the Admin will wake up. Well were there. Let’s see what happens over the next six months.
I don't expect much to change. Big time college basketball is all about money now and our beloved alma mater has historically had a very low giving rate. Why should we be optimistic that this will dramatically improve? Even if the administration 'wakes up' they don't have a magic wand to wave.

he said that because he knows our resources are trash. but now, its 100% about the resource of money. our worst resource. checks out.

perhaps we just, wait for it, have no money...

I truly don't think the real powers that be care about our athletic program or it's success and never have. The fact that money is now required only makes the situation more publicly visible and worse.
I'm not sure I agree that they 'never' cared, but overall I think your assessment is very accurate. The fact that we are prisoners of the archdiocese is --imho-- a central part of the problem.

I’d reckon we’re not only the lowest in the Big East, but all of the power conferences. I mean it took them 4 years to send an email.

I hate Rick but maybe that will get some folks going at SHU to field $ a better team next year. Classless statement by Pitino but probably some truth there.

Pitino is a Hall of Fame coach, but an often classless, unethical man. We beat St. John's last year twice with his bigger NIL budget, and were 12-1 in wins at home vs. Johnnies until now. We lost to Fordham, Monmouth and Hofstra this year, which has nothing to do with NIL. This year is as much about poor roster building and the loss of three excellent starters. NIL is a big factor, but GT & Nova have not been killing it with robust NIL coffers.

And let's not lose sight of Rick's Hall of Shame past and St. John's willing alliance with him. A program desperate to get back to respectability and a coach desperate to move back into the spotlight after his sordid past and exile to Iona. Vitamin Water Repole would not donate to St. John's until he helped engineer his good friend Pitino's hire at St. John's.

How many other coaches besides Pitino have had an NCAA championship vacated (Louisville's 2013) because the school was penalized for arranging striptease dances and sex acts for prospects, student-athletes and others? Rick said he knew nothing about it. Not to mention his restaurant exploits at the Italian restaurant and admitted sex on a table with a Kentucky woman who wrote a book about it, claimed rape, was charged with extortion, and Rick said the act was consensual.

University leadership,BOR,Athletid Dept. all have been totally blindsided by impact of NIL ie lack of it on SHU BB.Always three steps behind the best programs.I doubt or ability to recover with these people in charge.

I see it as an advertisement to recruits that seton hall is broke. Don’t waste your time with them.

You said it’s speculation. How big of a speculation can it be when an opposing coach who is new to the conference can make a statement like that?

We must be in much much worse position than even reported here.

And it makes sense based on the D-3 level roster we have now
My nephew played D-III basketball. Trust me a D-III would be non-competitive against us.

I know every coach complains about NIL, but Shaheen does seem to be the biggest baby about it.

Eventually, this excuse runs out. He built the team. We are the worst major conference team by far, almost setting records with how poor we play.

That is not just NIL. Thats coaching and he has done a bad a job as anybody in college basketball this year.

Nil and transfer bs was going to kill seton hall basketball. That was obvious and it is here already. We got very bad quickly. Should have better coaching too but talent is bad.

This is what I said years ago when the majority of posters here supported NIL. They told me I was over reacting. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Now if we could get 1000 alums to give $5k each year we’d be in business. So who’s in for that?
Sounds good, The only problem is you’ve just marketed this out to 200 people, where you getting the other 800 people to buy in

We can talk forever about how poor a position we find ourselves in both from a talent , coaching position and how minuscule our. NIL position is but what I don’t see is how do we rectify our shortcomings or is that currently not doable.

The school just spent $50 million on a facility. Big East bsketball is our greatest asset and part of our core identity. At Seton Hall, as sad as it sounds, this season may be just what is needed to wake everyone up and move forward.

you need a coach who is tied in with someone or some company. Counting on the SHU faithful is a failed strategy in this market.

We’ve never had money is the point

Plus the new transfer rules has killed us

They had enough money to build a practice facility so they aren’t drawing completely dead. The problem is that 90% of this board knew NIL was the wave of the future, not facilities, and the school didn’t seem to realize it. They bucked NIL until the very last minute.

They need to sit down and find an edge with rev sharing. I don’t know what that edge is, but that’s where their brains need to be.

You think they haven’t? I’ve read here that unfortunately Kurtz is not a sports fan.
He likes sports and spends tons on Formula 1 and drives cars a lot. That is not a cheap sport to be playing !!! The school is carefully trying to get his attention. So far it’s not resonating.

I’m really concerned about the price of players considering SHU going skyhigh now that we totally suck. The risk of playing in a black hole has to come with a premium . I need a miracle.

I wouldn't want him as our next coach but a guy like Amaker who could schmooze the right people is what we need. I'd feel real comfortable with a guy like Amaker walking into the offices at Prudential in Newark and being able to walk out with a couple hundred thousand dollar check. In my opinion that's what we need our coach to do. Sadly we live in a world where relating to your players and being a leader to them takes a backseat to schmoozing corporate big wigs.
