Pitino

Nobody wants to talk to Mike McBride. Nobody. Mike can do all the behind the scenes stuff but Sha has to be the face they see and voice they hear for the invitation.
Mike McBride is not involved with (nor allowed to) courting top potential donors like George Kurtz of CrowdStrike, current net worth about $6.7 billion, or 3x that of St. John's Vitamin Water guy. Someone like Kurtz would give to the university first. I have no idea if he even cares about basketball, his sport is race car driving.

I didn’t say his job is justified
I’d be shocked if McBride is here next year. It’s becoming career suicide. Unless he’s making such substantial money that it’s worth the punishment he’s gonna have to resign to save himself.

And at that point with the relentless negative press about our situation who on their right mind would sign up to replace him.

Might as well save money and let the business students make it their finial project for graduation

I know just a little about some of our issues from the POV of a school recruiting KR who was not St John’s

It appears that we have very limited money and will lose out most of the time regardless BUT Sha seems to have a number in mind…when athlete asks for more he almost takes it personal and basically is like go F yourself ILL replace you with cheaper/better parts
Yep. He sets his market.
You heard the narrative about Samuel would never get what Florida offered. Would have been money well spent. Add Samuel and probably Bediako at the 5 and you have a really dangerous team and change narrative of the program.

We need help in this area. Like the fiasco when DAW went into the portal. He needs to adjust.

I mean as of this past off-season Sha was basically saying --- how dare these players ask for this money, who do they think they are? They aren't worth this.

He didn't want to pay them, well he is certainly paying now!

It’s actually:

1a money
1b they think the coach will make them an nba player
1C program juice= buzz, winning, exposure for their “brand”
1a money
1b money
1c money

2a- others you mentioned

Sad but this is reality of the current situation. Money is all that matters for majority of college athletes. Btw. Unfortunately, Seton Hall doesn’t have much to offer on any items on the list. We can hopefully be somewhat competitive but constant ncaa tournament bids will be tough under current situation.

Another thing: not sure if this will make people feel better or worse

The new “rule of the land” is constant, 24/7 tampering at all times

It sounds like we DONT do this as much…I’m not sure if that’s totally accurate but from what I heard we seem to sort of “play by the rules”

To be clear..we have super low amounts to offer so it wouldn’t really matter that much anyway but that is my experience of a coach telling me how it operates
We have plenty of money to build a respectable roster. We don't have sufficient money to try to get 11 players that can all interchangeably contribute.

Lesson learned. Let's see if Sha changes or bails. I really disliked his presser quote about playing the hand he was dealt. Smacks of "I'm not complaining" and then complains.

He likes sports and spends tons on Formula 1 and drives cars a lot. That is not a cheap sport to be playing !!! The school is carefully trying to get his attention. So far it’s not resonating.
We need to get a platform with Crowd Strike That’s where the $$$ are.

Meant to edit. Sorry for duplicate

Pitino kicked our ass on the court and then immediately belittled us in the media. He’s probably texting Coleman right now. Savage.
imo what pitino said is what people need to hear. and he didnt need to add that if we were even close kr was staying. the nrts toovsoto. is that sacage or pkaying bybtge rules?

I realize that early this year. This seems exactly right and it’s almost such an old school approach since Sha himself didn’t see that kind of money when he played.

And he would have gotten over $2mm.

He thinks he can coach kids up.

I think it’s finally ringing clear that he can’t. And he’s eating humble pie big time.

But on the other hand, if he doesn't say something nothing will get done.

Pitino is a Hall of Fame coach, but an often classless, unethical man. We beat St. John's last year twice with his bigger NIL budget, and were 12-1 in wins at home vs. Johnnies until now. We lost to Fordham, Monmouth and Hofstra this year, which has nothing to do with NIL. This year is as much about poor roster building and the loss of three excellent starters. NIL is a big factor, but GT & Nova have not been killing it with robust NIL coffers.

And let's not lose sight of Rick's Hall of Shame past and St. John's willing alliance with him. A program desperate to get back to respectability and a coach desperate to move back into the spotlight after his sordid past and exile to Iona. Vitamin Water Repole would not donate to St. John's until he helped engineer his good friend Pitino's hire at St. John's.

How many other coaches besides Pitino have had an NCAA championship vacated (Louisville's 2013) because the school was penalized for arranging striptease dances and sex acts for prospects, student-athletes and others? Rick said he knew nothing about it. Not to mention his restaurant exploits at the Italian restaurant and admitted sex on a table with a Kentucky woman who wrote a book about it, claimed rape, was charged with extortion, and Rick said the act was consensual.
Louisville seperated with him when it seemed like the heat was on. He essentially was exonerated from the whole saga with andre mcghee.

Do you think you know the ongoings of the the shu roster under amaker and orr?

Pitino is a maniac. He is driven, high-energy, and pushes every angle. He's relentless and a mercenary himself. I wouldn't be surprised at all if his people have already texted Coleman, LOL! He knows you have to cultivate a fan base, have facilities, etc. And because of who he is, you basically sign the whole operation over to him. He'll get his guys in the Administrative positions, like AD. This is what he's doing at St. John's.

They're constantly doing outreach, they do all kinds of things with the media including regular shows and marketing pieces, etc. We can't get Popkin to do a weekly 1/2 hour show even? Make it all more accessible, relatable.

That's what The Hall needs. Maybe Sha can figure it out how to activate all that stuff. I hope so.

Boys he is right. But why are they in a different position? Because the Vitamin Water guy opened his checkbook wide. We don’t have that. Creighton has it. Nova has it. UConn has it. Now if we could get 1000 alums to give $5k each year we’d be in business. So who’s in for that?
SJU has been aggressively working the NIL space for years. Getting Pitino helped put it into a new gear

Mike Repole is a great supporter and lifelong fan from Middle Village Queens who was quoted more than a decade ago saying that his dream job was to coach SJU basketball.

Father Shanley’s best move was bringing him back into fold after Dirty Harrington and The Gemp alienated him. Repole loves sports, thinks big and couldn’t take the lack of attention given to the basketball program by the former presidents.

Also when you hire Pitino he brings a lot of his super wealthy Wall Street and Horse Racing buddies with him. They also have a lot of cash to throw around.

And SJU has had the NIL infrastructure in place for awhile. Former SJU AD Cragg, even though not working for the best presidents to be kind, was very pro active with building NIL collectives right from infancy. He saw the changing landscape of college sports before it even took place. Storm Marketing has been around for years and is thriving. And partnership with Kevin Durant’s company has been very key.

Durant and Kleiman (a Long Island boy) were sitting courtside last year at St. John’s/Holy Cross game at Carnesecca. Phoenix was in town for game against Knicks following night

Did St. John’s offer KR the most money?

Pitino's list of scandals precedes the FBI investigation of corruption in college basketball that led to his firing at Louisville. He got his out of jail card from Iona after an "impartial" committee found him guilty of Level II violations of not being able to monitor a program. That was good enough for St. John's to hire him.

The NCAA has repeatedly stressed that head coaches be held accountable for the actions of its coaching staffs. If what went on with Pitino in the past was being looked at today by NCAA enforcement, he'd be facing major penalties and unhirable by St. John's.

That said, many schools have revisited what is acceptable for the sake of winning.

SHA can coach, but if the mindset is a downer, he is not going to get through throwing the players under the bus. Yes he made the Elite 8 with a Low Div1 school. Yes he was a McD all American. Yes he is a defense maniac, but these guys are not responding. Zay is by far his best player, but they seem to definitely not seem to be on the same page. I am one of SHA’s biggest fans, but I believe he has to look inward at this point and reevaluate where he is going to take the team as well as making sure that the administration realizes that a small school like Seton Hall would be no where on the map without this program.

Exactly right about Pitino. I wouldn’t be surprised if he bailed on St. John’s for a blue blood in the next season or two. He knows Father Time will close his window soon.

Yea, and so have we. And this is the higher moral ground stuff that drives me insane.

I’m sure you had no issue when KW hired a former street hustler, two-bit con man to get players, or another guy who was subsequently busted for leading an academic fraud. People who aren’t even real coaches, and who reflects the dregs of the pre-NIL recruiting cesspool, which was just as bad only different.

And we can get into how you think Eddie Griffin, Dalemberr, etc ultimately ended up here.

Schools have always taken the coaches and players that help them win.

What? Yeah the first part was generous towards Shaheen. The rest was a complete insult to SHU. And at this point the 2nd part of his quote is all that matters and he knows recruits will see it.

Pitino says Seton Hall is broke, why am I gonna bother with them. Read between the lines
Pitino is a salesman. His so-called compliments are so transparently not. He did Sha no favors by taking Richmond and now is trashing SHU NIL, which BTW would likely be the same or better than St. John's if it were not for Repole, Pitino's Vitamin Water buddy who helped grease the skids to kick out Anderson so Pitino could get hired at St. John's.

Pitino also trashed Seton Hall and told Willard not to take the job. He is no friend of Seton Hall, would gladly poach Coleman next year if he could.

Maybe his pirate pride would have come out as well as his checkbook..

I know every coach complains about NIL, but Shaheen does seem to be the biggest baby about it.

Eventually, this excuse runs out. He built the team. We are the worst major conference team by far, almost setting records with how poor we play.

That is not just NIL. Thats coaching and he has done a bad a job as anybody in college basketball this year.
So shaheen was great last year but awful this year? I wonder what changed, hmmm

hey I tried to get his email to speak to him as a student raised by a single mother letting him know how much SHU helped me in my life but I wasn't given it so
