Can someone who knows more about this stuff than I do explain the justification?
That's not a very nice thing to say about the Targum.I don’t know…were similar RU media outlets like the Daily Targum also excluded?
He is the NSL sports writer. Excluding him is odd. He seems like a jerk. But its not like he isnt a logical participant. What makes him think he's entitled to be included? Is he anyone noteworthy? Complete non story here.
The fact that his “most recent” was eight months ago speaks volumes.
More to the point , Politi has been pretty good in backing Sha -what possible downside is there to his inclusion ?He is the NSL sports writer. Excluding him is odd. He seems like a jerk. But its not like he isnt a logical participant.
Conversely, what is the upside?More to the point , Politi has been pretty good in backing Sha -what possible downside is there to his inclusion ?
Conversely, what is the upside?
Perhaps the the above tweet by Politi ( posted by MoneyHall07) illustrates --- opportunities to have Seton Hall and Sha's program --our Players and potential Players- presented in a favorable fashion .Conversely, what is the upside?
Think Small At Seton HallGiven the opportunity to take the high road, the Hall chose in this case to be quite petty and sophomoric. I expect fans like several in this thread to say "eff Politi". One would think a media relations pro would rise above that. Nobody but SHU ends up looking bad in this. And the 'because I said so' is especially weak.
If this is the last Seton Hall article he wrote why does he think he deserves access as he really does not follow the team.
Not having this discussion and wondering if we are acting like our friend has said we have in the past, TSASH.Conversely, what is the upside?
Is that what they teach in the journalism school? If this is the last Seton Hall article he wrote why does he think he deserves access as he really does not follow the team.
But to whom? No one is reading this. No one is finding this on NJ.com's pitiful homepage. No one is searching for it. No one who follows college basketball, even locally, is looking to NJ.com as a resource any longer; they are reading about the sport on new media sites that specialize in this sort of content. This is for a newspaper that will cease to be in a matter of weeks, and it's online platform at NJ.com is not in any way representative of a quality newspaper anymore. It's filled with clickbait and listicles that should embarrass any journalist. (Every so often, there is a flicker of the old quality journalism on the site, but even then, it's dying with no audience.)Perhaps the the above tweet by Politi ( posted by MoneyHall07) illustrates --- opportunities to have Seton Hall and Sha's program --our Players and potential Players- presented in a favorable fashion .
So?On the surface its a bad look and probably an overreaction. On the flip side, Zags covered the media call for NJ.com and Politi is a johnny-come-lately. He basically ignores Seton Hall's existence 10 months a year and then wants access when it suits him.
OblivionAs a Seton Hall fan, all I can ask is; where are we headed?
Hard to believe that this decision was made without Shaheens approval….
More pettiness and hypocrisy. On The Banks , an independent media site, denies another independent media site access. Precious.Fwiw, the petty folks On the Banks denied my media credential request for tomorrows game with a long copy/paste message dumping on independent media being INELIGIBLE (their caps) and practically told me to go screw myself.
As a result I feel zero sympathy for Mr Politi, and as mentioned multiple times, his outlet is represented by Zags on this call as they are paying him as a freelancer to cover SHU who like it or not, gets the highest level of access along with Jerry. Politi trying to swoop in when we’re in our worst OOC stretch in forever is bad faith and he would do nothing but throw bombs.
I wasn’t invited to that call either for the record, but i likely would not have been able to attend anyway.
Clarification: I don’t mean the On The Banks media outlet I meant the people in the RU SID’s office that shot me down. I understand space in the building is limited since they play in a crumbling concrete trapezoid, so we’re doing a live stream during the game instead, saves me the drive.More pettiness and hypocrisy. On The Banks , an independent media site, denies another independent media site access. Precious.
Whether we do or not, people still read the NSL. An article from that site was texted to me by a friend the other day, a SH grad btw.But to whom? No one is reading this. This is an outlet that made a conscious business decision to cease regular coverage our program despite the fact that when that choice was made, we were the more successful of the state's two marquee basketball programs and remain one of its only two in major conferences. At the time, we still needed to bend the knee as necessary and play ball with them. They were, after all, the state's major news outlet.
But these days, their reach and influence has been so totally diminished -- certainly in the world of sports, most of all -- that there is no need to bend an inch toward them. Is is petty of Seton Hall to snub a columnist who is floating alongside this sinking ship in a leaky life raft, someone who saw all of his more talented colleagues flee for more stable publications over the past decade or more? Yes. To be clear, yes it is.
But with all of the publication's leverage having evaporated, it also brings some measure of satisfaction to remind them that now they are the one that is not worth consideration. Seton Hall basketball is still here, this disappointing season notwithstanding. The Star-Ledger has been relegated to the state's collective memory banks.
