Refs handed that to Creighton

As much as I think the refs screwed us, Creighton still had to make shots to win the game and they did. As much as we can tell and scream about McDermott and the 5 seconds and the phantom foul on KR, Creighton had to make shots….
true enough..... however, I really would have liked them to "take a shot" with the score 68-67 at the end of regulation instead of tied...... that's one shot they didn't make. Without that phantom foul call to get KR to the line, WE WIN.

OOPS.... mis-remembered the sequence of events..... that phantom foul was in one of the OT's and the end of regulation ref snafu was the over 5 second no call. anyway... on to Providence...

Another pretty big call was in the 3OT after Dawes hit the 3 to put us up 5. Miller missed a 3 and the long rebound was a collision between Addae-Wusu and Scheierman. I didn’t think it was a foul by anyone, just a play with to guys going for the ball. But it bailed out Creighton and the lead was right back to 3.

This! I sit in section 8 row 9 on the left side. McDermott was right in front of me abusing the refs especially the tall guy all game. He deserved a T, wasn’t called so you can say he was helping his team, fair enough. But if you’re a ref willing to take that kind of abuse your going to get more and more of it.
He rides them all game every game.

Whoa really? I’m in section 8 row 8 on the left side. Seats 17 & 18.

And yes—just the fact that the refs actually warned the student section and took the screaming abuse from McDermott is just mystifying to me. Childish and reflects insecurity.

What the hell is a student section supposed to do? Clap for every ref call?

They accepted the bullying and, I think, were influenced by it. Simple

That's part of gamesmanship. You take every inch you can. I would hope we take every inch we can.
Disagree. I think it’s quite embarrassing when your own players have to restrain a head coach several times.

Reminds me of Chris Mullin or Eric Musselman. Yes two different levels of success, but as a fan of a team I would not want it.

Case in point: I hated Billy Martin as the A’s manager back in the early 80’s. He was a jackass (plus he destroyed the rotation with the number of innings they threw)

I think they knew Bediako and Dre hammered Kalk with 55 seconds to go 2 feet from the hoop and flat out were going to make sure they made up for it. The refs let them play all day. If you look at the video of Kadary scoring the go ahead bucket with 30 seconds left in regulation, he clearly gets separation by throwing an elbow at Alexander. Sims even calls the elbow throw. Can't say it enough the officiating was horrible both ways.

I was at the game, so I don’t know the broadcast but I disdain Sims. I’ve muted every game he’s announced since he’s been doing some Big East games over the years. I don’t think he has any affinity for Seton Hall IMO.

As for the push offs, Alexander did it more times than I have fingers and toes over the course of the game. Don’t wanna hear Kadary pushing off.

Physical play was both sides and Creighton got whistled for only 14 fouls vs. SHU’s 20. Only reason SHU shot more free throws is they took 22 less 3 pointers.

And I’m fine with Creighton getting more foul calls. I knew they would.

Doesn’t mean I can’t heavily dislike McDermott’s thrashing of the refs and screaming at them all game long.

I’m not saying Alexander didn’t push off. I’m just saying that it wasn’t one sided. The games on YouTube that’s where I watched the final 5 minutes and OT again to see how bad thing were.

Another classic is watching the reactions of McDermott and Scheierman after they got away with that 5-second violation. 🤣🤣. They knew it.

Start from 58:05 mark.

Without a doubt. As I've said 20 times on this message board, the only thing they got right was the out of bounds no travel rule. Hulk Hogan would've been proud of Richmond's elbow if you watch the previous possession. Blatant elbow, blatant 5 seconds, they were just terrible.

Totaly agree. Thought this exactly at the time. Call anything but a foul and we have a chance to get the ball back up 5 under three minutes left in 3rd OT. Call a jump ball, I think we had the arrow.

Xavier looks very good and like an NCAA team tonight so far. It may be better for SHU if Xavier wins because it would make finishing second in the conference a better possibility. All the teams have tough games ahead and that 13-7 mark seems to be the goal. Either way The Hall picks up a game on one of these teams. If Creighton comes back, it's not the end of the world. If SHU can get the next two it would be huge. The Hall needs wins more than being concerned with the NET.

If we held Kalkbrenner in check like they did we would have won. His stat line: 16 points, 9 rebounds and only 1 block!

Xavier had a much better game plan! If we want to beat them we need to watch the tape of this game!

Much better game plan, much less chance of winning than we had.

You are correct, but that was a different play. The play in question in which many think he traveled he got the timeout in less than 5 seconds. I actually looked up to see if you can call back to back timeouts, which Creighton did and I couldn't find anything against it. But it took Creighton 3 times to get that ball inbounds. I believe it was the no travel call, timeout, then the 7 seconds, timeout, then the layup.
I forget but seem to recall that you couldn't call the timeout after 4 seconds, thus leaving you 1 second "without a net"...so to speak. Is that true?

yeah this makes it clear...and no I didn't realize this either....

I wonder how well the players know this? my guess....not well....but....they should! Gives them quite a bit of latitude to move in order to get the ball in...3 feet isnt nothing...
mind boggling that a couple guys on here still want to debate this. you basically have 10 feet to work with by keeping one foot in the ground foot window. And you can’t travel.

So could you jump forward and throw the ball before you breach the out of bounds line?

I’ve never seen a player do that, but if that’s the rule I don’t see why they wouldn’t

It says there's no depth limitations. So essentially I would think a player could go back to the student section on and out of bounds play and run up and throw it in. The rule also states you can't leave the designated spot until ball is released. I assume you can jump forward as long as you release the ball before crossing the line. I've never seen it either, but the rule is pretty clear you travel rules don't apply and you only need 1 foot in that 3 foot wide window.
