Rutgers getting blown out AGAIN

At what point do they give the taxpayers a break and kill this football experiment....
When the football powers that be finally begin their 2 major conference system for football schools and Rutgers is nowhere on the invite list….

Although that would probably just make Rutgers spend even more just to try and prove they belong in that major division while struggling against fellow leftovers in Temple, UCONN, James Madison, Boston College, etc…

Has any school ever get thrown out of a major conference. I would think Big Ten should consider it with ru. Schiano is horrible. They could not get anybody else for the job .Actually I don't think anybody wanted it. A Dead end job.

The Ohio State loss was no surprise. Beating Temple by just 2 and Boston College by just 1 tells us just how bad the Scarlet Knights are this season. Should they lose to Nebraska their season will officially be a disaster.

Pretty sure Temple football was booted from the Big East for failing to meet minimum requirements

Rutgers started a fight against Ohio State because they felt humiliated. Even Schiano got in on the action. Rutgers was outraged that Ohio State would do a trick play when up so many points. Rutgers: How dare you embarrass us! We deserve respect; we beat Wagner by 50 pts. man! 🤣

Greg Schiano, Ryan Day get in verbal spat after Ohio State’s fake punt with big lead

By Ted Holmlund

Rutgers coach Greg Schiano and Ohio State coach Ryan Day have been friendly coaching colleagues since the time both were on Urban Meyer’s staff when he coached the Buckeyes.

But they were far from friendly on Saturday.

Schiano got into a yelling match with Day after No. 3 Ohio State (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) pulled off a fake punt in the fourth quarter of the Buckeyes’ 49-10 blowout win over Rutgers (3-2, 0-2) in Columbus.

With Ohio State holding a 39-point lead, punter Jesse Mirco saw a hole in Rutgers’ special teams coverage and ran out of bounds for a first down — before he took a huge, late hit from Scarlet Knights receiver Aron Cruickshanks on the Buckeyes’ sideline.

After the hit, a scrum ensued between the two teams and Schiano ran across the field to help break it up. But Schiano, clearly not enthused that Ohio State had run a fake punt on his team, also had a few choice words for Day, who jawed right back at him.

Schiano and Day both drew unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Cruickshanks was ejected from the game and will have to miss the first half of Rutgers’ home game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday night.

After the game, Day, who apologized to Schiano for the play during a postgame handshake, insisted that he didn’t call the fake and that Mirco had decided to run on his own.

Both coaches downplayed the confrontation.

“One coach defending their side, one coach defending their [side]. No hard feelings,” Day said. “I told him that after the game.”

Schiano also said after the game he has the “utmost respect” and is still “friends” with Day, agreeing that both coaches were just defending their respective players

When Meyer retired at the end of the 2018 season, Day was named head coach. In February 2019, it was announced that Schiano would not return to Ohio State and, in December of that year, he was named the head coach at Rutgers.

As for the game, Miyan Williams carried the load for Ohio State, rushing for a career-high 189 yards and five touchdowns.

Williams got the opportunity for a career-high 21 carries when TreVeyon Henderson became a late scratch because of an unspecified injury. Williams, a third-year back, exploded for a 70-yard TD romp in the third quarter and also had four short scoring plunges.

Rutgers jumped out a 7-0 lead after Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka fumbled a punt return after the opening drive. That set up a 14-yard TD pass from the Scarlet Knights’ Evan Simon to Sean Ryan. It was the first time the Buckeyes had trailed in a game since falling behind 3-0 early in the opener against Notre Dame.

But Ohio State dominated the rest of the way.

“We didn’t do enough things right in the end to be in the game,” Schiano said.

“Just not our time yet. Now the word ‘yet’ is the operative word.”

Williams stepped up with the best game of his Ohio State career on a day when quarterback C.J. Stroud wasn’t as sharp as usual. Stroud, the Heisman Trophy favorite, completed 13 of 22 passes for a career-low 154 yards with two touchdowns and an interception as the Rutgers defense keyed on taking away the pass.

Stroud said he wasn’t bothered.

“I think that we just want to win,” he said. “ If that means I don’t throw for a lot of yards, I don’t throw for a lot of touchdowns, I can’t really care less. I’m here to win.”

It’s really not a fake when a rugby style guy always has the option of running. Granted it was not an option he should have taken given the circumstances.

It may have been a case of false hustle, but Schiano is the king of that stuff. Keep chopin!

Exactly. Whether you believe Day or not, it didn’t look like a play that was drawn up. His explanation is plausible if you look at the guy rushing on the right. I have to laugh, because this is something Schiano would probably use in a heartbeat

Rutgers was humiliated twice....by a not so savvy play by the punter and by the game itself. They should get more Wagners on the schedule then they can keep on chopping to their heart's content.

You can blame the college playoff system which rewards teams when they blowout high major opponents.

Watching the play, it's obvious that the fake was a last minute decision and not intended. Schiano's behavior was pathetic, this is what we get from the highest paid public employee in NJ 🤣

I see both sides in this situation…

if you are a P5 team playing a group of five or FCS school it’s bush league to run that play in that situation.

but….

if you’re a P5 team playing another P5 team that’s a different story. This is big boy football. If you’re still trying to score on offense you can’t simultaneously demand your opponent stop trying.

Like carnesecca once said to a young calhoun, you can only coach one team at a time.

Ohio State didn’t play a high major opponent, they played Rutgers.

I disagree. P5 on P5 means nothing. If this was baseball, at the MLB level, it would be like stealing up 10 in the 9th. Guess what there's going to be retaliation because there are just unwritten rules you just don't cross at the highest levels. We all know the batter is getting thrown at. This was a douchebag move by OSU.

Yeah, but a kid making a decision on his own and doing something different, a lot different than having the play called.

And, whether it is nice or not, tough sh!t. Sounds like RU couldnt stop any plays before the punt. Stop some of them next time.

I disagree with the decision the kid made as I hate when a team rubs it in the opponents face. I doubt it was a coaching decision.

Ultimately, I go back to the college playoff system where teams are rewarded for lopsided scores.

Schiano acted without class regardless.

At first I agreed with you... but if you look at the play, Rutgers all but invited the kicker to run with the lineup they had set up to block the punt.. The kicker's natural kicking motion took him to his right... he looked up and saw nothing but daylight. Yeah the guy should have just pooched it out... but seemed to be a heat of the moment decision by the kicker. How much time was left? If Rutgers was intent on blocking the kick at that point in the game and lining up the way they did they should have manned up and accepted the risks. Did they expect the kicker to stand there and let his kick get blocked? Can't stop playing because one team is getting their butt whooped. If it was a call from the bench.... I agree it would have been a douche bag call. Heat of the moment.... I can understand the kicker's reaction even though I think he should have pooched it out of there.

I still stick by my thought process. How often do 1st basemen not hold a runner on in a lopsided game? Happens all of the time. Are they inviting steals late in the game? No. There's things you just don't do when you're the team in the lead by a certain amount with less than so much time to go. Ryan Day wouldn't have apologized at the end of the game if it was defendable. If this was any other team but RU, people wouldn't be defending this action. This is black and white. It's wrong. Every OSU fan knows it. Every RU fan knows it. Ryan Day knows it.

Sorry I don't give a 20 year old a pass. OSU is not going to be judged by what they do vs RU at all. Whether they won by 40 or 60 is not going to make a difference in the CFP. What they do vs PSU and UM will ultimately decide their playoff scenario. The playoff committee won't care about this game one bit.

When a 20 year from Louisville or UConn made a decision on their own that was classless vs us, does anyone say well the coach didn't call it, so it's ok. No.

Your position is quite rich in light of Rutgers/Schiano's behavior against Wagner. This is what Politi wrote:

Schiano? He ignored the scoreboard and kept on coaching. When his Rutgers defense stuffed Wagner on fourth-and-inches midway through the fourth quarter — the Scarlet Knights had a mere 52-point lead at that point — Schiano clapped vigorously as he charged onto the field to congratulate the second- and third-teamers who made the play.
If you didn’t know any better, you would have thought Rutgers just won the Rose Bowl.

What goes around comes around! Schiano and his talent-challenged goons got a little taste of their own medicine and were indignant. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Meanwhile, Syracuse last weekend treated Wagner somewhat differently. Realizing Wagner was terribly outmatched, Syracuse got together with the Wagner coach and refs and shortened the remaining 2 quarters to 10 minutes each.

Could you ever imagine Schiano doing that?
