Seems Like Donald Trump Jr admitted to looking for Russian Info

Semantics...I also don’t expect it to improve, but I don’t think we should just roll over and accept it without trying to change for the better. Never chose to be the victim and not starting now....better crazy:)

I don’t believe I hinted at any rolling over or playing victim, although I’m pretty sure Gov. Malloy’s office wants me to stop emailing and calling.

Really? The Dems treated Reagan very well. Ronnie criminalizes anyone doing business with Iran. Then goes and violates the same law with Iran Contra. No impeachment proceedings initiated against him. Contrast that to how the Republicans went after Clinton.

Ronald Raygun????

I'd agree with that if that's all it was but it wasn't. I'm sure you of all people can spin a nice conspiracy theory as to why Obama's campaign didn't require the use of a CVV code (to allow foreign donors?) and not returning donations until they got caught?

And the "he said-she said" between two known liars isn't really evidence yet.

I have no idea why they wouldn't have included CVC codes. Like with any conspiracy theory, I would approach with skepticism and wonder who benefits and how big the cover up would be.

While I agree they should have had safeguards in place to ensure the funds are legit, Obama wasn't having trouble raising money so I am not sure the campaign would willingly violate the law so they could raise an additional x number of dollars. Also there would have to be a group of people with knowledge of the omission etc.. .it would have been hard to cover that up when it was investigated.
Even if it was a couple million, He raised like 750 million.
Entirely possible they did it on purpose, but it seems unlikely since there would be a lot of risk and little reward there.

Now compare to Trump who is on tape telling his attorney how to pay while they discuss the timing of importance related to the election, we have him on tape literally conspiring to break the law.
It's not "he said -she said" We have a tape confirming it.

SPK and Hall85 are Super Trumpers who are compelled to always point out an Obama transgression that parallels what is happening today. It's a reflex like hitting that funny spot on your knee.

I also predict both will respond how much they are not Super Trumpers. It's a reflex like hitting that funny spot on your elbow.

Is it illegal if Trump paid Cohen back with his own money?

It's done to show hypocrisy and bias.

Thanks for adding nothing to the conversation. Again.

Thanks to Merge and Cern for always adding to the conversation (although we often disagree wholeheartedly) without being douches.

You are sooo mean. I meant it as a compliment. You do a SuperTrumper job of pointing it out. Your response time was significantly slower than Hall85 so there is still room for improvement.

Well I’m going to say you’re a douche too.

My understanding is yes. Still activity directly related to the outcome of the election which would have had to have been disclosed.

Not a major violation, but an intention skirting of the law.

Many legal pundits, including a number on the left, disagree.

Aren't campaign ads directly related to influencing the outcome of the election as well?

From my view, Those pundits will end up being wrong. Trump is on tape taking about making sure this payment occurs before the election. Funds (including loans) to the candidate must be reported.

Rules for loans.

https://www.fec.gov/help-candidates-and-committees/handling-loans-debts-and-advances/

“Besides being reported as a contribution, a loan must be continuously reported until it is fully repaid.”

Rules for in-kind contributions.

https://www.fec.gov/help-candidates-and-committees/filing-reports/in-kind-contributions/

“An expenditure made by any person or entity in cooperation, consultation or concert with, or at the request or suggestion of, a candidate’s campaign is also considered an in-kind contribution to the candidate.”

In either case, Trump coordinated and failed to disclose the payment. That does not appear to be within the law.

With Cohen flipping, pecker and the CFO of Trump org both getting immunity, I’m thinking the walls are about to start closing in. I have a hard time imagining that was the only time Trump has tried to get around laws.

Non-reporting of funds to a campaign is what lots of presidential candidates get in trouble for, it’s wrong, but all get off with a slap on the wrist. $130,000 isn’t even a rounding error.

There’s a minimum of at least 2 payments so far totaling $280,000.

I don’t think it’s comparable to a disclosure error with no evidence of intent. This is a candidate on tape talking about ignoring the law.

The one thing that would work in Trumps favor would be if he has a history of paying off women before he was running for office. He would be able to argue he is a public figure and this is a routine transaction, although he would also have to argue that the timing of the payments was unrelated to the campaign which would be much more difficult.

Again its not something to bring down a presidency, and if this is all of the evidence of criminality against Trump, we will never hear about this issue again. However, if there is a pattern of criminality against Trump, this will be a part of that evidence against him.

With those around him being charged with crimes or granted immunity, I’m betting it’s the 2nd scenario that plays out.

What about the Trump Foundation? That really appears to be quite shady.

Impeachable, probably not; but more distraction and possibly deservedly so.

heh-heh, hehhehheh. See what I did there boss, you called him a name so I did too. We sure got him good that time didn't we boss? You and me, we make quite a team, don't we boss?

Haven’t seen enough about the foundation yet, but I do believe the CFO getting immunity will be a problem. They’re not giving him immunity for Cohen...

Seems to me that this may end up like Clinton. That investigation was opened due to Whitewater but ended up getting him for something else. Looks like they're targeting his finances and it doesn't bode well that those around him are money launderers and tax cheats. In the end, I wonder if this ends up as a RICO case. Granting immunity to the CFO of his business is a major development.

It's easy to just say that we should just move on when doing so moves out country in a direction that is more favorable to you.

If it turned out China hacked our election to make sanders win to help turn us into a socialist state, would you still think we should just move on?
I thought we were already a socialist state!

You're not comprehending. Since the most recent discussion on this thread dealt with the plea deal of Michael Cohen, I was merely commenting on the nature of the relationship between Donald Trump and Michael Cohen. Cohen believed loyalty would always be a two way street and was surprised to learn it was not. Donald Trump believed loyalty to him had no limit and was surprised to learn there is a limit.

It is a cautionary tale.

BS, Asshat. You took a shot at SPK and I and you got called in it.

You logged on to the website
Like you were walking on to a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You kept one eye on your mobile app
And counted all your likes
And all you dreamed of was that he'd be your partner
He'd be your partner and
You're so vain
I bet you think this post is about you

In a very odd and two separate statements by Don Jr, about admitting meeting to a Russian lawyer. At first, the story was that this meeting was about Russian adoption. However, his second statement which clarified the first statement, he admitted on taking a meeting in June 2016 with an unknown Russian lawyer about damaging information about Hillary Clinton. When the lawyer did not have any credible information, the lawyer turned the conversation to Russian adoption. At that point Don Jr ends the meeting because she did not have good info. Also, Don Jr brought Manafort and Kushner to the meeting.

As early as June 2016, the Trump campaign is seeking information on Clinton from the Russians. There is a bad smell coming from the White House.
Another good conspiracy thread....Throwback Tuesday:)

Right. They only tried to collude.
Trump Jr also lied to congress without having to clarify his testimony... Woo hoo lets celebrate to pwn the libs.

Special Counsel Merge...

Right, lets see what he said.
Trump Jr wanted help from Russia.
Trump Jr gave false testimony to Congress.

Not sure why your trying to celebrate anyone getting away with both of those indisputable facts.

I’m not celebrating...just having some fun with your theories

Because someone got away with lying to congress and trying to get help in an election from a foreign adversary... Your right! So much fun!
Fun because you’re theories (and predictions) were wrong, but keep repeating them if that makes you feel better.

Both sides play dirty. That’s a fact. I don’t celebrate the system we have evolved with two parties that obstruct rather than do their job and legislate.

If Mueller found any conspiracy or collusion, we wouldn’t be having that conversation.

That's according to political appointed AG Barr and his memo. Do you realize that we would have saved millions upon millions of dollars and time if everybody took the AG Lynch conclusion about the Clinton emails for the truth that there was nothing there. It's a shame that many continue to use this for political gain. Now if that wasn't believed why should we believe this AG memo. Besides the special counsel Ken Starr of President Clinton fame released his findings within a month and yet the senate republican refuses to have the whole report released. Who are the republicans trying to protect?

You know what's also fun? Laughing at your adoration for a lying and corrupt president and your disregard for the criminals that have surrounded him in the past and present.

Pretty pathetic you have to dig up 7 month old threads in order to defend your Dear Leader.

Please point to my supposed "adoration". If you go back and read the thread, I probably had the most balanced view of the events as they unfolded. I may not agree much with cern or Merge, but I respect their opinions and can have a little fun when their predictions are wrong (as they would with me!). Lighten up Francis....

Yes, you're very balanced. The most balanced. No one is more balanced than Hall85. Honestly, I think Hall85 is the most balanced poster in the history of Life off the Ship.

You're so balanced, you pulled up a 2 year old thread just to defend
