In a very odd and two separate statements by Don Jr, about admitting meeting to a Russian lawyer. At first, the story was that this meeting was about Russian adoption. However, his second statement which clarified the first statement, he admitted on taking a meeting in June 2016 with an unknown Russian lawyer about damaging information about Hillary Clinton. When the lawyer did not have any credible information, the lawyer turned the conversation to Russian adoption. At that point Don Jr ends the meeting because she did not have good info. Also, Don Jr brought Manafort and Kushner to the meeting.

As early as June 2016, the Trump campaign is seeking information on Clinton from the Russians. There is a bad smell coming from the White House.

Who friggin cares. Is there a rule you can't look for dirt on the other candidate? Was this the first time in close to 250 years of elections someone looked for dirt on the other person? Do you really think Hillary wasn't looking for negative info on Trump? This isn't Cold War Russia. Since when in the last 30 years has Russia been listed as a top 5 enemy of ours. We still need healthcare reform. We still need tax reform. We still need more jobs here. We have to worry about North Korea, a potential trade war with Europe, fixing up the border even more, etc. Everyone is so damn worried about the past that we don't make the present or future as good as it could be.

If we spent our time looking for more dirty Hillary emails and what she knew about classified emails from a personal server we could be ripping her apart left and right and it would serve no purpse to help our present and future.

Well if there is something there, we already have Mueller and a cast of lawyers looking into it. Someone approaches you with potential dirt on your opponent and you don't take the meeting? lol....I will wait to see what facts and any investigation, but my sense is that both parties engaged in finding dirt, as there seems to be links with HRC and the Trump dossier. In either case, as ShuHoops indicated, there are real issue that we need to address that I care more about.

A few things.

1. Yes, it is illegal for the campaign to receive material support from a foreign national.

2. If not a big deal, why have they lied every step of the way? Why didn't they disclose these meetings with the Russians as they were required to?

3. You should not be ok with another country influencing our politics.

It's easy to just say that we should just move on when doing so moves out country in a direction that is more favorable to you.

If it turned out China hacked our election to make sanders win to help turn us into a socialist state, would you still think we should just move on?

If you go back in time I'm sure you will find it happened many times before. Social media is bringing a lot more to light than ever before. Don't think for a second we haven't messed with other countries elections either. So we can waste our time and tax dollars to find out more about the past or we can fix the present and future.

Merge if you are going to go after trump you have to go after Hillary for using the server. Everything stated here can be used against the illegal server. If you investigate one, you gotta investigate both. 1 It was illegal to have the server at her home. 2. They lied about it. 3. You should not be okay with other countries getting their hands on classified documents. It's either we move forward or keep worrying about the past.

Are you ok with the United States influencing politics and elections in countless other nations over the last 50+ years?

I didn't say that. I'm fine with Mueller's investigation continuing and uncovering whatever they find. Let that take it's course and let the chips fall where they may. But there are issues that need to be confronted and addressed by this President and this Congress that are more important to me right now.

Investigate everyone.... but, Hillary was investigated.

1 It was illegal to have the server at her home.

That's not true. Using a personal e-mail address (or server) is not against the law. If you receive classified data on a device there are certain steps you are required to follow which Hillary did not do. She also broke the rule that she must retain copies of all communications (Trump is also breaking that same rule when he deletes a tweet btw)

3. You should not be okay with other countries getting their hands on classified documents.

I'm not.

The people of Israel should not be ok with their President if an election was won because of US interference. Countries will always attempt to influence, I get that... I have a bigger problem with the collusion aspect.

I am sure the US has colluded with foreign leaders in efforts to gain powers... but I am not a citizen of those countries. I am a citizen if the US and the idea that a campaign may have worked with a hostile foreign power to win an election will never sit well enough with me that I say "lets just move on"

The Russians helped Trump win. To what end we don't really know yet. Is it because Trump is likely to be more favorable to them? Sure, but is there something worse? Does Trump owe them something? Do they really have compromising data over Trump where they can manipulate him as the Steele Dossier suggests?

Name one thing Trump has done so far in the best interest of someone other than the US of A. I'm sure 6 months in he'd have to start repaying some debt to whoever he owes. And why do we give Russia the assist for the Trump win and not former FBI director Comey.

What is the material support?)

Anything of value.

(b)Contributions and donations by foreign nationals in connection with elections. A foreign national shall not, directly or indirectly, make a contribution or a donation of money or other thing of value, or expressly or impliedly promise to make a contribution or a donation, in connection with any Federal, State, or local election.

Assume for a moment that Putin's goal for the US is to destabilize us asa world power. To further divide us. To make our citizens believe news and intelligence reports are fake...

How's Trump doing so far?

Probably in the same place where he started. Our country was divided long before Trump announced he was running for office. We have people chanting "what do we want, dead cops, when do we want them now." That didn't start with Trump in office. How many groups can chant we want to kill people and get a warm welcome to the White House? Classy.

The MSM is doing a pretty good job of that without any help from Putin...

Baffling how some you see this as nothing. After months of denying that there were no contacts with the Russians, all the sudden there are meetings. After months of denying of collusion with the Russians, now the motivation is clear that the Trump Campaign was indeed interested in information had by the Russians. Dirt on campaign is fine but not when it comes from an enemy and certainly not ok when that enemy country hacks into a campaign computers of the DNC.

Doesn't that now give more credence that there was collusion between the Russians and the Trump campaign? Why does Trump go against every intelligence agency that said the hacking was the Russians? I guess according to some of your reasoning, there is nothing wrong with the Russians and hacking into the DNC and attempting to influence the elections. Hell, all is fair in an election?

Now, laughably Trump wants to work with Russia on cyber security? What drug is he on? Handing the keys to the biggest exploiters of hacking over to the Russians. This is a joke. How are you not troubled by this?

Evidence of that so far?

Don Jr. literally said he took a meeting with a foreign national to get data on Hillary... That is not legal.

The same day as that meeting, Trump announces he will deliver a major speech about how Hillary is unfit to be president. "I am going to give a major speech on probably Monday of next week and we're going to be discussing all of the things that have taken place with the Clintons," Trump said. "I think you're going to find it very informative and very, very interesting."

He ended up changing the speech because of the nightclub shooting that weekend... but I'm betting Trump got more out of that meeting than has been reported so far.

I'm not suggesting that MSM is an innocent party in the divisiveness, Russia may have seen an opportunity to get involved and took it.... but it happened.

The root of the problem is how far we've come apart and divided. That didn't happen under Trump's watch. Democrats, Republicans, independents, all need to come together and worry about America not their party. If we continue to stay divided other countries will see opportunities as well. It's time to stop pointing the index finger and start pointing the thumb.

Wrong..There's nothing illegal in what has been portrayed thus far.

Trump Jr. essentially admitted he went to a cocaine dealer to buy cocaine but they didn't have any cocaine. We don't know what happened in the meeting, what was obtained... but you think it was just a coincidence that Trump announced a major speech against Hillary that same day?

The amount of "coincidences" with this administration and their connections to Russia is amazing.

You are making a lot of assumptions there....if there is something Mueller should find it. Not illegal with what has been stated.

Indeed... but... Is it a crazy thought to say that Jr accomplished something illegal in his efforts to do something illegal?

Of course Mueller will sort this all out and I will accept whatever the outcome, but it's fun to play connect the dots and the Trump team seems to have been nice enough to number them for us.

Interesting that you mention the Steele dossier. Isn't that also illegal?

There are now reports that this Russian attorney is connected to U.S.-based political firm Fusion GPS. Fusion has been a major focal point of the FBI and Congress because it hired a former British intelligence agent named Christopher Steele to produce a salacious intelligence dossier that made wild and still unsubstantiated claims about Trump ties to Russia.

"Congressional investigators involved in the Russian influence case told Circa on Sunday that they are almost certain to probe if Veselnitskaya used her parole entry status to contact the Trump family and whether there is any connection to the Steele dossier and Fusion GPS."

“This is new information that raises all sorts of new questions and we are digging into it as we speak,” one congressional investigator told Circa, speaking only on condition of anonymity.

President Trump’s lawyers said Saturday they feared Veselnitskaya’s meeting at Trump Tower may have been part of a broader election opposition effort to smear the Republican by creating the impression he and his family had extensive ties to Russia as the Kremlin was interfering in the 2016 election.

“We have learned from both our own investigation and public reports that the participants in the meeting misrepresented who they were and who they worked for,” said Mark Corallo, a spokesman for President Trump’s legal team. “Specifically, we have learned that the person who sought the meeting is associated with Fusion GPS, a firm which according to public reports, was retained by Democratic operatives to develop opposition research on the President and which commissioned the phony Steele dossier. "

"These developments raise serious issues as to exactly who authorized and participated in any effort by Russian Nationals to influence our election in any manner,” Corallo said.

So that's what it's about...if you want to burn jet fuel on playing out your conspiracy theory go right ahead. Just call me when there is actually something illegal.

Amusing that you would say that after "liking" SPK's conspiracy theory directly below my post.

Wonder what the difference is between our posts and why you would like his.

Because it's also a conspiracy theory (like yours) that has not been proven yet, although it seems like there is more there.

You know the answer. In 85's mind, SPK theories are true. Yours are not.

I am amazed that DTJr. ever admitted he was lured by the prospect of dirt. I give him credit for owning up to it, even at this relatively late date.

I would typically defer to a numbers guy since their theories are usually fact based....I have a hard time believing people who live in a world of "hopefully's and maybe's"

I was under the impression that SPK's first name was Steve. The quotes from his post come from Mark Corallo, a spokesman for President Trump’s legal team. Is SPK really part of the Trump legal team?

It's from some other articles on the Internet, may be true, may not be true, we know the NY Times prints falsities regularly.

lol... Again, Jr was on his way to try and accomplish something illegal but you think I am wasting my time wondering if he actually accomplished what he was trying to do... but SPKs post blaming democrats for making that meeting up just to discredit Trump and never mentioning that meeting previously and there is "more there"?

I doubt Trump Jr realized what he was admitting.

I just love the evolution of it.

We never had contact with the Russians
We had contact but never colluded
Collusion is not against the law
We tried to collude with them but they didn't have anything

Seems like both sides were up to no good, no?

Steele dossier not illegal???

Seems like some folks here are spinning more into this then is there albeit that does not surprise me.
Another nothing burger.

Trump Jr.'s full statement:

"I was asked to have a meeting by an acquaintance I knew from the 2013 Miss Universe pageant with an individual who I was told might have information helpful to the campaign. I was not told her name prior to the meeting. I asked Jared and Paul to attend, but told them nothing of the substance. We had a meeting in June 2016. After pleasantries were exchanged, the woman stated that she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Ms. Clinton. Her statements were vague, ambiguous and made no sense. No details or supporting information was provided or even offered.

It quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information. She then changed subjects and began discussing the adoption of Russian children and mentioned the Magnitsky Act. It became clear to me that this was the true agenda all along and that the claims of potentially helpful information were a pretext for the meeting.

I interrupted and advised her that my father was not an elected official, but rather a private citizen, and that her comments and concerns were better addressed if and when he held public office. The meeting lasted approximately 20 to 30 minutes. As it ended, my acquaintance apologized for taking up our time. That was the end of it and there was no further contact or follow-up of any kind. My father knew nothing of the meeting or these events."
