Seton Hall Declines NIT

Maybe restrictions are by the NCAA, not the state?

funny, the only people in an uproar are typical posters who are looking to bitch about our performance anyway.

I don't see any uproar about this from anyone on this board. A few posters expressed disagreement with the decision. Why such a dramatic interpretation?
Lol, “I want players who will compete” echoed in a variety of ways. They’re soft. Millennials wanting participation trophies.

I don’t know, if you have a chance to play for a championship, I think it you take it. Yeah they were isolated for months, to earn a chance at the post season. They did the work, this is the reward. I am surprised that kids don't want to keep playing, but this has been a long, tough and strange year. I guess they were done.

The NIT probably has less prestige than the Maui Invitational at this point. No one cares about it and, again, can you blame a coach for not wanting his kids potentially injured?

The decision has been made and I have no doubt it was made after a full discussion with Kevin and the other assistant coaches , the players and members of the administration and all the pluses and minuses of whether to play or not were carefully weighed. I had no strong feelings either way but not playing doesn’t bother me at all.

It's not just about playing, it's also about protocols and quarantine, both while playing and upon returning back to NJ, etc.

Under normal circumstances, I would be all in for an NIT bid. But, this yr, I do understand the lack of interest in the Tourney
In a way, it's a shame, because if you play good ball for a wk, you can come away with a secondary championship.
Here';s the deal for me,; I've been around since '66; we've won 1[yes, one], NIT game in all those yrs; I wouldn't be averse to an NIT run now. Why not? Let's be honest-if we beat GTown, and got invited to the NCAA deal, we'd be running to the location for the 1st round game, and let's be honest, we'd be a lot better offwith an N IT bid than that NCAA bid
I don’t follow last sentence

I don’t blame the players at all for not wanting to play in the NIT and going through this stuff anymore, and Jerry’s article and Brian’s quotes laid out the case perfectly. I could see in their body language on the court for the past month that the team was just fried mentally, and they looked like they were just going through the motions and wanted to be anywhere else. They weren’t having fun playing, which showed in their play the past few weeks. Frankly, as a fan I was feeling that watching them and I haven’t enjoyed watching the games either for the past few weeks, frustration I haven’t felt since the early Willard years. Results notwithstanding, it all just felt hollow. In a normal year I think they would have turned it around quicker like previous teams that were left for dead after a slide and fought back. I think the collective isolation, testing, etc. all took its toll and they just had nothing left but adrenaline flashes in the BET and the first few minutes of UConn and SJU games. My partner who’s not a sports fan but has been suffering Watching many of the games with me noticed it too. Heck, I’ve kinda felt similar myself in my personal life approaching a year of this isolated lifestyle, and I don’t work nearly as hard as these guys do so I get it. As a fan even I’m kinda relieved their season is over. I thank the players for their sacrifices, with new blood and an actual offseason program this year I think next season will be a transition year but still should be competitive.

I thought it was the team's decision not the coach's?

All true, but after this brutal year, I'd think the guys would want to get something out all the hard work and sacrifice. In the end, though, it doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

Time off = Want to get something

Without their best player plus who knows who else wouldn't play, all of that for maybe 1 non-descript game?

.... As long as you have the same attitude when the next issue comes on up on this message board where people are critical of the Catholic Church.
You're comparing apples to oranges. College basketball banter is appropriate to this board. Attacks on people's religion is another matter altogether. There should be no place for it here or anywhere else. I have taken exception to some of the scurrilous attacks that used to be leveled against the holy Catholic faith. We don't seem to have that problem anymore. I wonder why? lol.

But your comparison is quite juvenile.

Just playing Devil’s advocate. (Is that a permissible thing to say?)

I understand where the kids and coaches are coming from but do not agree. If I were a player I would want to the season never to end. As a coach I would want players that want to play forever.
Would you feel differently if you haven’t seen you parents, friends , girlfriends , etc in five months. Would you really want to spend another two weeks locked up in a Texas hotel?

If we made the NCAA Tournament, would that be a burden for the team too? I understand the point ShuMatt was making and I also understand where the AD is coming from.
