Former NBA player Ben Gordon was arrested at LaGuardia airport Monday for allegedly hitting his 10-year-old son, sources said.

Gordon was awaiting a flight to Chicago when Port Authority cops barred him from getting onto the plane and cuffed him over the alleged abuse at 8:45 p.m., law enforcement sources told the Post.

His son was escorted by an aunt and taken to Long Island Jewish Children’s Hospital for evaluation, the sources said.

Gordon, a shooting guard who once played for the Chicago Bulls, was being processed at the Port Authority police station house. Charges against him are pending.

Police sources said two Port Authority officers received minor injuries while making the arrest, though it’s not immediately clear how or where they were injured.

Gordon, who won the Sixth Man of the Year award as a rookie, has been arrested several times in the past.

He was arrested for an alleged assault and robbery in 2017. He was also nabbed for driving with a forged license plate and setting off fire alarms inside his LA pad when there was no fire.

Gordon, 39, grew up in Mount Vernon and went to Mount Vernon High School before starring at UConn and winning a national championship in 2004.

I don't really agree with that. It's certainly sad to see what Ben Gordon is going through now and he has been diagnosed a mental illness. I could be wrong, but I don't remember him having major issues in college or even shortly after.
Mental illness or not, he’s leaving innocent victims in his wake.

I don't see how someone's actions nearly 20 years after he would have left Seton Hall, had he come here, is relevant to what he would have done on the basketball court in the early 2000s. Despicable actions today for sure, but doesn't have much to do with dodging any bullets. That said, he has had a bunch of legal issues in recent years. Needs help.

I always thought TA blew the Gordon recruitment, his one big error.

This is awful news. But i still feel the same way

Very weird take that we dodged a major bullet. Gordon needs help, for sure. Probably more so for previous actions than this one. But someone that did not seem to be a problematic person in college? Not sure about that.

Can't judge the hospitalization or the injuries without more information/facts, and I'm not disputing it, but the kid may have had it coming. I kid... kinda. Did Gordon overreact to something in public and slap the kid in the face, causing an overreaction of sending him for evaluation? Was it less than that? Or was it something much more abusive.

For what it's worth, my 7-year-old daughter punched me in the balls and my reaction was to smack her on the ass. First time I had done that and scared her more than she was hurt, but kids have to understand at one point that you can't just do that to someone. And you have to have children to understand these days that saying "don't punch someone in the balls" is equal parts warning, equal parts invitation. I had a healthy understanding by 7-10 that I did not curse at my parents, respected them and other adults (teachers, police officers, figures of authority) and knew that actions had consequences. In no way to I condone child abuse, but I don't think the whacks with a wooden spoon that I received as a child constitute child abuse.

Gordon sounds like a real disaster.Didn't hear about him having problems at UConn but I suspect Calhoun was good at covering that stuff up.Before we start throwing stones SHU BB has its own rogues gallery ie Gunther,Hicks,McNeil,Wright,Mitchell,Whitney,Pope,Gonzales, etc. Most Division 1 schools have their own undistinguished alumni!

I had heard that Amaker had chosen to take John Allen over Ben Gordon?Allen the better person Gordon the better player.

But did Allen choose to take Calhoun over Amaker? Probably, and a very, very wise move.

On its own, yes. Some thing I would need more information. But unless you have assault and battery and other transgressions in your past this seems more likely to be a pattern.

you don’t strike me as that kind of guy… Lol

I may snap…

In no way do I think Gordon is a saint. I don’t think we dodged a major bullet though. I wouldn’t have been proud right now if he was a fellow alum.

Halldan this is sensationlized opinion. All this board would be fawning over a top 5 nba pick and could you imagine dre and ben in same backcourt vs a player that didnt have a consistent J and was preoccupied with side gigs on campus...i do not condone the striking of children...i am of the age where punishment was dished out by parents of a different era...ben gordon also has a long list of mental health wellness issues

i mean, shu doesnt exactly have the ripest crop of alumni in this department. hell, most of them had major issues as players.

Dodged a bullet? Twenty years later? No, I don't see it like that. It would be very different if Ben Gordon were still in school and the Seton Hall name was closely attached to him. The NY Post attached above barely mentions UConn and focuses on his transgressions and NBA career.

As for Ben, it's apparent he has some issues to work through. Hopefully he can do so before some more serious happens.
