Very interesting chart. Is there a more recent version? I would love to see the comparison of what we produce here in US vs what we use in the US and what we export / import over time.

This site has the data you're looking for.

For instance, Psaki, when asked about opening up oil production in the US gives a curt answer "ask the oil people... they have plenty of leases they could drill." The oil people tell a different story about how the uncertainty caused by the Green agenda keep them from drilling on leases that may or may not produce.

She is correct. There are plenty of unused leases. 14 million acres of land available.

The price of oil has been so cheap that they haven't wanted to use them.

US govt just needs to get out of the way of the Oil producers and let them do what they do best..... this Psaki talk that Oil companies holding back is pure gaslighting.

Not really. Government is out of the way. It just hasn't been profitable enough.
Oil companies want more leases as speculative future interests. New leases would accomplish nothing in the short term.

Not really. You're the only one making intelligence assessments on how much we provided and should have provided and that the outcome would have been different.

You have no understanding of what that actually means though. You just want to blame Biden.
Man, you’re especially unhinged today…rinse, wash, repeat…

Does anyone wonder why we did very little to help aid Ukraine when we knew for months what was coming. Instead of helping to stalled the onslaught we wait until the place is a mess and thousands are dying to authorized 10 billion in aid. Brilliant forward thinking from our government.

First time ever, I agree with Nancy Pelosi ban Russian oil.
Has Lindsey Graham lost his mind? Reckless comments encouraging someone to murder Putin. We can talk about that here but to publicly come out on TV. Guess he forgot Putin was a KGB agent. That kind of talk will do more damage than good.

We are in the middle of one crisis but we are working on creating another in Iran. Shows we can balance multiple failures while creating new ones all at the same time. Can someone please tell our president Russia, Iran, and China are not our friends. Maybe his friends but not the American people.

man hall85 getting lacquered with his own words again! its a weekly tune in special. never seen anything quite like it. "deflection!" "whataboutism!" too good. will never learn that merge keeps reciepts. also never learns that people read and remember what he says. must be low oxygen up there in the ivory tower.

We have been helping Ukraine prepare.

It would be great if we could just send billions of dollars in weapons and defense systems to any country that asked, but that's not realistic and not necessarily something we should be doing either.

How much do you think we should be sending Taiwan for example? There has been speculation about China planning a takeover there soon. We can't pre-emptively defend every country in the world.

Yep, insane.

can joe address the $4.20 gallon gas price today??
We are 4th in exporting oil and produce more than we consume. It's called corporate greed .Two yrs. ago when gas was cheap they were giving it away during the pandemic shut down when there were no cars on the road. Now it is time to make up profit for their share holders. Also they are looking into the future and see more and more electric cars coming. F them they have us by the balls for now. Also don't forget Halliburton the real reason we invaded Iraq .

I understand what Lyndsay said. But as a US Senator to say that publicly is stupid. To stop Putin, there must be an internal revolt by the Russian people and specifically the military.

seems like theyre giving everyone a reason to get an electric car. public transportation might climb though.

Also the Infrastructure bill will not help them as much as it will for public transportation and electric cars. They see electric cars as what happened in the early 20th century when electric lighting replaced candles, gas lights, oil lights and fires. Although the change will not happen as fast they see it coming and need to get their profits.

If you are going to give 10 billion now why not give 2 billion when the Russian buildup started. 200 million could easily have been 10X greater. 2 billion or even 10 billion from NATO when they needed it most could save us/NATO billions later. A lot at stake in Ukraine.

That was on top of the hundreds of millions of aid sent in 2021.
We have been helping them prepare.

We can't just send a few billion more though. It needs to be appropriated through congress, and that's just not going to happen without Russia actually invading. Now that they have, Biden can request more.

You are minimizing the build up that was going on for weeks. It was inevitable.

and we sent aid in December, January and February before the escalation.

You may think Biden has an unlimited supply and the authority to to send over billions of dollars of aid to defend foreign counties, but that's just not the reality.

The decisions we have made to date have all been calculated. It's not like people are just sitting back and reacting. The people who are in charge of making these decisions do so with intelligence that none of us have any understanding of, and they need to balance providing as much assistance as we can without ending up directly involved in starting World War III.

So do you believe all of the decisions have been the correct ones?

So do you believe all of the decisions have been the correct ones?

There is just no way for me (or anyone here) to know that.

I'm also not convinced there is a "correct" decision here as much as decisions that were either better or worse than the other available options.

Unless you have an understanding of the intelligence involved, any opinion there is a guess for now.

Putin is not going to just walk away here. He will need to come out of this with a "win" and we need to manage what that means, or the United States ends up fighting in this war.

My reading comprehension is just fine. Yours on the other hand is suspect. I asked you a question on whether you want direct confrontation with Russia. Not a statement. That squigly line indicates a question and not a statement.

You are making an argument that no matter what occurred, you can criticize Biden as not doing a good job or not enough. If it was 500 Ukrainians that died you would still be making the same argument.

Let's face it, no matter what occurred, you would criticize Biden. And since this is the US and NATO countries, every single leader of the what is essentially the free world you Hall 85 think you know better than all of them. And I don’t care how much military equipment was given, this is a war and people are goin mg to die especially seeing how Russia prosecutes a war. Without having NATO and US Air Force involved, there are going to be a lot of casualties.

So if you are calling for no-fly zone, then at least your argument would be consistent. Murray intervention by NATO would be consistent in your argument. However, u said you against direct confrontation.

Otherwise, you on your high horse saying 2000 people died that didn’t need to die is ridiculous. Nothing would have stopped Russia. And unfortunately nothing would have prevented Ukrainians from dying in this war.
The back and forth reading comprehension comments are fascinating and stupid…not taking a substantive side

Agree. Nobody here just blames trump. Disgraceful

This. It's clear Zelensky is trying to suck the US into this.

Bingo. Zelensky’s game is up. UK and other populations starting to see through this actor’s charade. Peruse comments section in this linked article below (from London’s Daily Mail) for samples:

https://mol.im/a/10580845

Also, some very disturbing and unflattering video of this former actor’s old times showing up. Key word: “high heels.”

It will take years to unravel the rabbit hole of corruption emanating from Ukraine. It stinks to the high heavens. Some of it is too disturbing and scandalous to post publicly.

There is a lot in this world which is too mind boggling to grasp from comfortable living rooms in Chatham or Bernardsville or Rumson. And Ukraine is at the crossroads of much of this kind of stuff.

I understand what Lyndsay said. But as a US Senator to say that publicly is stupid. To stop Putin, there must be an internal revolt by the Russian people and specifically the military.

Actually it’s precisely this kind of thinking in 2003 and 2014 (applied in the Ukraine) that has precipitated the crisis today.

We are best off listening to our founding fathers (avoid foreign entanglements), respecting local spheres of influence of great powers and minding our own vital interests.

It's a global economy now. Much different world then back then. We are permanently entangled.

We get most of our drugs from China, some of our oil from Russia. Global economy has many downfalls. Computer chips for cars, drugs, oil, apple phones, clothing. Endless supply of products we would find it hard to live without. We got our first taste during the pandemic, China could cripple us without picking up a weapon. Better to be GREEN here in the USA. Oops, I forgot we all live on the same planet. Out of sight out of mind. If I don’t see the pollution it doesn’t exist. Get AOC another purse and a pair of jeans from China. Bottom line there is a lot at stake during these issues. Better to wait until the country is devastated to give them 10 billion. Makes sense. What is 10 billion when we talk trillions these days. Do the math. One million millions in a trillion and we give 200 million in aid to stop what could turn out to be WW3, where we would need to spend a couple trillions. Our government needs a good accounting firm.
