The Second Wave

FWIW, infection = exposure x time.
I don’t think people should be allowed to go to a liquor store and sit there for an hour in a crowd either.
Retail should have restrictions based on capacity, as should churches.
It takes people an hour to food shop. What should they do about that?

Any restriction going ahead should be based on limiting capacity. I’m not in favor of closing churches, but at the same time, allowing full attendance would be irresponsible.

If any shut downs are ahead of us, they should be due to the risk of transmission.

So you are fine with thousands people gathering for an BLM/ANTIFA protest and closing a church where masses are capped at 25% (50 people) capacity and people are all masked/social distanced with a live stream? That's what my church is currently doing. I of course am watching the live stream.

You are also in favor of closing this church and it is totally fine for thousands of people gathering for a Joe Biden victory celebration?

hmm Seems that you really do need to go to a church. I guess the Lord doesn’t go to your house and quite frankly who can blame Him.

You must be a lot of fun To be with.

you might want to see a shrink if you need alcohol to keep from going bat shit crazy.

Do you seriously think we will be out of this mess in the distant future? This will end up being the great depression x 10 with the health and economic impact.
Dude, come off the ledge. I don’t think you have a clue about how bad the Great Depression was. GDP fell like. 30%. People got in trouble investing in the market because margin calls came due and they had no money. There was a constraint on credit which is not an issue today.
Yes, we will go through some economic hardships which Will effect some over others.
But if Biden is smart, his first legislation would be massive spending bill in infrastructure which is a huge job creator and will have secondary and tertiary jobs. That’s good borrowing at low rates which creates lots of jobs and produces taxes
By the summer, masks will be a thing of the past and you will be able to come out of your house.

Hello. I just do not have that faith right now in the anti vaxxers not taking vaccines and the incoming administration. Next summer will be the same exact thing as this summer. Capacity will be at 25% in restaurants and bars and there will be a mask requirement everywhere. People will not be taking the vaccine and the virus will continue to spread.

We will not have a really great hold on the virus until 2022 or 2023. Until then more shutdowns and more businesses unfortunately closing their doors.

Hello all. The governor of NJ is preparing us for the "new normal". He is now saying we will social distance and wear masks for months to come. Then after that the " new normal" will include mask wearing as well. Not sure how some people cannot see this.

You are an interesting fellow. On one hand you have a tremendous fear of CoVid to the point you have not left your house since March. Yet, you criticize governors like Murphy who want may want a mask mandate and may order future shut downs. On one hand you gloated that you you were right back in the early days that this was not a political hoax (which was Trump's view and then he downplayed the virus), yet you do not trust the incoming administration and apparently was a Trump guy. You are a bundle of contradictions.

Let me alleviate your fears. I believe in mask mandate during this pandemic. It is such little effort in order to help not transmit and contract COVid the this should never be an issue for people. However, once this pandemic is over, I will not wear a mask. I will do my duty as a citizen to help myself and to help others not spread the disease by wearing a mask. I have no issue with that. But, like 99% of the people, without Covid around, the mask is in the garbage. I look forward to that day which hopefully will be in the summer.

Hello. Unfortunately that will not be the case. Murphy will keep his executive order intact after the pandemic. It will still be required to wear a mask in a public place.

If you remember correctly I posted on this board in late February/early March about the incoming pandemic. I was told I was an "Idiot" and "Fear Mongering". I also warned the board how the government will begin to tell us what to do in our daily lives. Has that not happened? You are now being told by governor murphy how many people you can have at your Thanksgiving dinner.

I hate to break it to you, but besides Shu09 and a couple of others, no other posters thought that CoVid was no big deal or a hoax. Second, the government is not telling us how to live our lives. Most responsible people are having discussions with their families about what to do about Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving dinner is a concern and I do not need the governor to remind me but to others, who still think it is a hoax or no big deal, maybe that is a good idea.

Third, the government tells you how to live your daily lives every day. Stopping at a traffic light, paying your taxes, speed limits, fire codes, garbage pick up days, etc etc. The public safety outweighs your so called personal liberty violations.

It’s dependent on the vaccine not only working but distributed efficiently and quickly. Some of you think that Democratic politicians like to have masks on and shut down businesses. There is nothing to gain by this. This is conspiratorial craziness.

Long term I will agree that it is "conspiratorial craziness" as you said because it would destroy the country. But if you don't believe Dems played up especially masks and to a smaller scale shutdowns in the lead up to the election your are not being truthful.

No. I don’t believe that. It is the recommendation of the leading infectious doctors in the US. That’s not political.

I wouldn't disagree that democrats talked about masks more because of political reasons, but I also don't think they would have talked about masks at all had republicans been supporting masks in the first place.

Politicians will always focus on how they are different than their opponent, just happened that republicans all got on the anti-mask bandwagon. They made wearing a mask to be a political statement right off the bat.

Come on you are not being truthful, there were plenty of scenes during the convention, where was Biden and his wife, no one else around and they were wearing masks. Purely a photo op with masks on . Lots of other times, standing on stage socially distanced and wearing a mask.

It was to push point that they cared about virus, and Trump didn't. I understand it from political view, they used it to their advantage based on exit poll results about virus.

Depends. Governor election is in November 2021. Sadly it’s all politics.
Murphy is pissing off a whole lot of the state, and you figure that is politics?

"Politics" is telling America that it is a hoax, a liberal plot, and wearing masks is unmanly, making it US angainst THEM.

Part of it is perception and setting an example, otherwise there would just be the "do as I say but not as I do" kind of talk.

There was some bad press about congress planning to have a dinner for new members. Realistically, members of congress are probably tested fairly often so the risk there of transmission there would be pretty low... but at the same time it sets a horrible example for the public and they absolutely should hold off.

They should not have a public inauguration. If they do, it should be extremely limited compared to what we would normally see.

CERN I agree on many points but when did trump call it a hoax? Downplayed? Yes. Definitely. His first move was calling it the China virus and wanting to ban travel. So respectfully it’s not really fair to say he said it was a hoax.

He said it was the Dems new hoax at a rally. Some may argue that Trump was actually referring to arguments. But it is also plausible that Trump referred to it as a hoax. Especially since he said the following:

Jan 22 "We have it totally under control. It's one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It's going to be just fine,"

feb 2 “We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”

feb 10 “Looks like by April, you know in theory when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away.”

feb 26 “The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.” "This is a flu. This is like a flu."

Feb 27 "It's going to disappear. One day — it's like a miracle — it will disappear,"

Downplaying it to the point that the severity of this disease is a hoax. Trump supporters took his not wearing a mask as a political focal point.

Hello. Donald Trump did not call the coronavirus a hoax.

when you tell the nation numerous times that the virus is not something it very clearly was... its being called a farce, fake, hoax. he didnt use the exact word, if u want to win on semantics

Can you please explain Joe Biden's Pandemic response plan? And how its different than Donald J Trump's. Thank you.

Most docs were saying what he said minus the hyperbole, but whatever. Keep spiking the football if you so choose. Biden will fix things just like all of the states run by the left.

Kinda weird though that it is like the flu and did substantially go away in NJ in summer when Murphy opened everything up.

saying it will disappear is not saying it will not reappear.

Any reference to China and he is/was xenophobic

I agree. The great Tony Fauci, MD said on 60 minutes in March during the height of the pandemic that people didn't have to wear masks.

It’s not worth discussing. Everything is Trumps fault. I think the left will get a good 5 years out of that.

Do you mean left leaning states in terms of the virus or overall?

Just dropping this here. Pretty interesting how cases are reported on a daily basis by the Murphy admin. Reporting cases from May and April today?

You aré just trying to rewrite history. Did you forget the February 7 phone call with Bob Woodward where Trump admits he knows that the virus is a killer and 5 times as lethal as the flu? It’s tiring to go back and forth with people who just ignore facts. Trump lied to the American public and kept lying.

And yes Fauci lied about not wearing PPE in March because he did not think hospitals would have sufficient PPE which happened to be true. Hospitals did not ha r enough PPE at the outset. Fauci still should not have lied, but by first week of April, he is already advising the public to wear masks

CERN: Yawn. G luck with Joe and Komala. He (DT) lied to Bob too because it’s not 5x as deadly. PS, don’t think anyone will be looking to Hallsome or this board for a recitation of history. But nice dramatic effect. In all seriousness, I’m rooting for Joe; he’s our president (soon, at least). I will not bash the guy for 4+ years as I have a life.
