Top 25

I always find this to be the dumbest mindset.

SHU doesn’t play poorly because a number is placed in front of the name. How has Sha performed at SHU with a ranked team? How have these players played on this or other teams being the hunted instead of the hunter? Oh, we don’t know?

Teams that slip into the top 25 that lose don’t do so because they get complacent with a number. Teams lose because they are top 20-30 teams with ebbs and flows.

We have won some games where no one saw it. We will lose some like that as well. 0-2 this week wouldn’t be shocking. 2-0, to me, would be but is certainly within reach.

None of the results will be because of a number in front of our name.

You want that exposure. National attention.

Of coarse we want to be in the top 25 but
it's not dumb...it's our history and MO..

The first inclination is to insult? Dumbest mindset? Just say you disagree.

And while the recognition is nice we don’t want this team to get satisfied as they did against Xavier. Pure speculation on my part, but I’d bet Sha would prefer to be unranked.

How many of these players and coaches have ever played with a ranking at SHU?

Being our “MO” is about as asinine as superstitious socks.

Fans have continuity and span years. This team and staff are in no way connected to the last team that carried a ranking at SHU except for Kadary Richmond. Last time we were ranked was 2021-2022. We were ranked for 8 weeks. 16 weeks in 2020-2021.

Fine, but I didn’t call you dumb. I just think it’s such loser mentality.

I hope we’re not ranked because we might lose.

I hope we stay the hunter, not the hunted.

Maybe if we’re 26 we’ll feel slighted and stay hungry.

I strive for mediocrity.

All bullshit. I want to be elite. I want to be perpetually ranked.

Play in the tourney. Make a run. That’s more meaningful to a player than we were ranked for a week or 2. That seemed to satisfy Willard.

Teams that are ranked more often play in the tourney and make a run.

That's not the reason, of course.

But it's also not the case that it's one or the other.

I think the guys learned a lesson at Xavier. I think that loss made them realize not to take anything for granted. Whether they're ranked or not is not going to change the current mindset of our veteran team.

I’m not sure that a poll of writers put together by the AP has any actual connection to tourney selection. Happenstance perhaps but few who vote have any real insight.

I love being ranked. Constantly see your school's name on the ESPN scrolls as well as the B 10 scrolls which makes me even happier. When you play the game appears in the highlights. Nothing but good publicity as far as I' m concerned.

The numbers influence everyones opinion of u. Even the committee. Remember when we beat nova in the BE tourny in 2016. Our seed was projected i believe 6-8 and we were a 6 seed. Even though u juat have to win no matter seed or opponent but the seeding affects a lot.

I thought rankings matter in determining quad wins/losses.

That aside, I'd prefer that SHU be ranked than unranked...and if you're a fan, so should you.

It will be close. Probably between 24-27. I will go with just miss at 26. That would be nice jump of 8 spots from previous AP poll. Though hoping we are ranked. Always like being ranked over not. Sha will have them ready Tuesday regardless of polls. Will be tough and probably close one

Anyone saying we won’t be ranked is diminishing the fact that this week had two road wins. Not only were we on the radar, but people notice road wins.

We are clearly better being unranked but we to want get a top 4 seed in the NCAA tournament. Don't know how that works but I've read it a million times here.

Best way to guess at ranking is look at the week's results of the teams that were ranked ahead of you. Did enough of them in our neighborhood lose when we did not for us to earn a number <= 25?

Voters don't wipe the slate week to week and evaluate all 300 whatever teams to determine the 25 best. They start with the previous week and move down those that lost and up those that won. Maybe give an extra boost or drop in rare cases where teams were especially impressive or awful.

So, looking at the previous poll, who's dropping down for us to move up this week?

I don't see Seton Hall getting in this week. Texas and Gonzaga will drop out. Clemson might go as well. SDSU will probably hang on, tough to drop out from #19 after a 1-1 week. Same with BYU.

There will only be 2 or 3 openings and those will likely be filled by Dayton, Ole Miss and Texas Tech if it gets to 3. I see Seton Hall anywhere from #26 to #29 this week.

We were ranked #34 last Monday. With 2 road wins we'll definitely be in the top 25. Richmond will be the BE player of the week for two weeks in a row.

None of this is set in stone, but I'd be very surprised if wins over Georgetown and Butler get Seton Hall from #34 to #25 or better. Teams ahead of Seton Hall also won and (in theory) should get into the poll before Seton Hall.

Georgetown and Butler are not highly thought of nationally. Win two games this week against better teams and Seton Hall should definitely get in the 1/22 poll.

More important is the NET jumped yesterday from 76 to 66.

That’s good I thought they would have dropped 12 spots for not winning by enough and too many turnovers in the 2nd half
Our rise might be attributed to beating the No. 50 team on the road.

Surprise: Winning against a team ranked higher than you might actually do more for your profile and metrics than beating a team ranked nearly 150 positions below you.

It's not just what you do. It's who you do it against, where you do it and how you do it.

just win the next game on the schedule. Then, do it again. They will eventually be in there. We’re should certainly be showing I’m on brackets now.

It's not just about what we do but also about what others do. We're over the moon about the hall and should be we're digging out of a big hole and just we're getting wins doesn't mean others aren't too. You can't do rankings in a vacuum of only how the hall performs.
