Veer Singh

Amarveer Singh has been a valuable asset to the NCAA. But the NCAA’s pay-for-play rules prohibited him from earning any compensation or benefits for his athletic services, aside from the limited (and fixed) categories of compensation that Defendants allow (primarily an athletic scholarship)
Hill et al v. National Collegiate Athletic Association et al, Docket No. 4:25-cv-01011 (N.D. Cal. Jan 31, 2025), Court Docket

Just as legit as Powell's claim he was going to be drafted...

Halldan liked him; thought he would win starting spot over Desi. If I recall, made a 3 against Witchita St. The Timmy B, Desi bobalu game.

When I saw his name in the post's title, I thought he was coming back to use [by today's standards] his four-plus years of eligibility.

Worst prediction ever...
In the practice that I saw Veer was the best player on the court. He hit nearly every 3 he took and Whitehead was looking for him most every time down the court.

Then in the preseason exhibition Veer was 6-7 from the arc missing one where he took a bomb to beat the shot clock. He deserved to start early and did.

But once the lights went on he froze and offered very little in the next year and a half before quitting.

Veer fooled a lot of people, me included. He reminds me of a guy on our roster this year. Very good skill set for a tall guy but it just doesn't translate in games.

How many times have we seen/had Jerry tell us how great someone is in practice? Year in year out we hear similar things.

He started 1 game, against Rutgers, 7 games in, which ended up bringing Desi and Khadeen off the bench for the game. His stats in the first 6 games were not jumping off the page so I can only assume this was the yearly "Desi in Willard's doghouse" game.

You have to understand that coaches rarely allow vistitors to practice. So Jerry and I can only post what we see with the proviso that is only one viewing. Difficult to be accurate under those circumstance although I respectfully offer Jerry and I are correct far more than we are wrong.

Last season for instance I noted that Bediako played very well when I saw him and EHE struggled. I watched that practice after being told EHE was the better player. He was not and Bediako became a find.

Same with Gil when I saw him in his sitout year. Absolutely loved him.

Remember Q? Watched him once and said he would be our starting PG and was far better than his rating.

Then there is the Veer situation. I thought the Pirates had a major find, but I was wrong.

Watching a player once is no guarantee to correctly profile said player. But Jerry and I do our best to inform our readers.

Dan, no need to apologize.
You spend two hours watching a player - what do people expect ? You have gotten 100 things correct for every tiny error in terms of player profiles and program information.

At least you get off your ass and make the effort.

Thanks

And in further fairness to you and Jerry, the story Jerry wrote has glowing quotes from Whitehead about his shooting ability and Willard talking about what he's shown in practice to that point.

I totally understand it... and I put almost 0 stock into it ever. Just as I wasn't excited about Yacine's video during this year's off season.

I wouldn't take it personal. I saw Daimon Fray in a pregame lineup his frosh year and just from his physical presence I thought he was going to be a beast.

Bringing up Everett, I haven't accessed his season at James Madison, but wouldn't he be a bring a lot more to the table than the 3-4 guys who are now manning the middle?
Of course, what did he get from JMU?
