Our Site has gotten off course in the past few weeks and has turned from a Basketball Site to a Social Commentary Rant Site. Flag, Statues, who kneels who doesn't, disrespect for this/that....protest/dont protest.....this board has drifted far, far away from its purpose. I do not care what you think about these topics but it is disturbing to read your opinions on these topics.

It is truly disturbing considering the real goal of this Site and the kids we all cheer for.....I am not just referring to this chain but multiple chains on the Trove. Please know I have been actively on this site for close to 15 years and I have been wanting to write this post for the past 4 weeks. Please keep your posts and comments outside of basketball to your daily Reddit rant. Does anyone else feel the same way? If its just me I will continue to read, cringe and watch everyone show their true colors.

You are 100% correct and I admit that I have participated in this descent. I’m no longer going to read or contribute to non-sport topics. I’m certainly not pointing fingers as there is precious little going on in sports, these topics filled the void.

Thanks for your post!

I have very strong opinions on these matters but I agree that these subjects are best left to the Life Off The Ship board. And I say that as someone who has contributed to the madness by posting non-sports opinions here. I feel for our moderator who has to police all the bad behavior while also keeping the boards alive. Not an easy job.

Dan does an incredible job managing this site. He has tried to put some issues that relate to sports on the main board but they devolve quickly. My only advice would be to post these on the life off the ship board and not even bother putting them on the general board.

I agree that some posts here would be better served on Life Off the Ship. On another hand, though, every day sports converge with current events, race, and gender. I respect Mspaeth's and others' concerns, but to draw a rigid line between purely sports and the outside world is a very tough call.

LOTS needs equal oversight to the other boards, it shouldn't just be a dump site where bigotry and cyberbullying exists. You are one of the prime examples and main antagonist. It fine to have debate and opinion and your daily hospital bed insight but your kind is brutal with derogatory name labeling, posting dumb giphy animations and being in denial over covid, denial over how one's actions can impact job responsibility/maintaining position and repping a company, social/civil matters. Your kind and sect make it a political divide. A small group that continue to show no empathy or inclusivity towards our macro society. Worried about nuclear families and the next golf tee time. And a rebuttal of me needing to show a well rounded executable plan to save and advance society or my content and commentary is just noise. I am not a registered anything and have voted for candidates from two major parties and other third parties based on the year, circumstance and platforms. I had an interest in civics and politics in my late teens and early 20s. Based on what has been happening for the last quarter of 2020, part of me is scared if we as a country will recover collectively and unity over the health and civil dynamics we face. However, LOTS has this sect that feel things are good enough for our minorities and an adaquate amount of our population health wise to have the persona of main stream media and left wing politicans have ruined 2020.

I think you have missed the point. We’re supposed to be talking about the Pirates. Perhaps we can argue about this: I think Myles Cale should be the starting shooting guard this coming year.

Translation...I don’t like it that most of the free world doesn’t share my opinion but they should because I am right, everyone else is wrong and my opinion is the only one that matters!

I think the pandemic has made us less disciplined and we stopped following the old rules.
Got to get back in our lanes.
We have another very good team this year and we should be talking about that on this board- and not the political, social, economic and health issues.

You asked and here's your answers....

First off, no one on this site posts more BB news than I and it's not close. Every single day I am on this board early looking for BB news, be it SHU, college or the pros. My intent is to keep this site as active and interesting as possible in the off season. With the key word being off season. In short, how on earth is this site going to stay active if nothing but SHU news is posted? Clearly the answer will be it won't.

Now, in a normal year at this time I try and post as much sport news as possible. But clearly this is not a normal year. The civil unrest following the pandemic which shut down the sporting world across the globe has limited what can be discussed here. I have tried to split the difference posting sporting news which unfortunately often has ties to both the virus and the civil unrest. If anyone has a better idea on how to keep this site active in this trying time I am all ears.

Now, as to Life Off the Ship.

I have nothing to do with that board and in truth if this was my site it would not exist. But this is not my site so it's not my call. I moderate the Trove and this board and that's all I do.

As for the accusation that it's a dumping ground...well maybe many here should look into a mirror as to why.

I have asked til I am blue in the face for everyone to be respectful to each other in this difficult time. Words that have fallen on deft ears. When that happens I take the threads off the board that I am responsible for and transfer it to a site that is geared toward those type of discussions, political, religious, current events, etc.

There you can all continue to ignore my simple request to share your differences in a civil manner.

I would let the board members create their own topics instead of constantly adding New ones that push Good conversation and threads a lower and lower.

this is with a ton of respect that your job on this site is super hard, I just think sometimes less is more.

After reading this rant, I am reminded of the words of former President George W. Bush after Trumps inaugural speech:

’That was some weird shit.’

God bless America, Kap should not kneel, Covid is a chinese communist conspiracy, Black Lives do Matter, exercise first amendment rights but do not loot, destroy, or harm innocents, and Let's Go Pirate Basketball!!
There. I managed to focus on topic. Not easy to do with this all going on.

And when that doesn't happen and very often it doesn't the board dies down.

I watch this site every day and when it's teeming with threads started by others I take a back seat. But when it doesn't I i look for sporting topics to be discussed.

Check out the threads that have remained on this board which have not yet been transferred to LOTS and see which are the most popular and which are not.

There's a lot of sports news here but much of it doesn't come close to initiating the conversations that the sports/civil unrest and sports/pandemic topics do.

Halldan I am not arguing volume or contribution you make on daily/weekly basis.
I dont understand, do you run piratecrew or not? How it LOTS not part of the process? Also, how can another person be in charge of LOTS if they are basically a ghost? Is this a SnakeTom thing? So you moderate but PirateCrew is not your site? I am not being a wise ass here just trying to have a better understanding of the shu rivals system. Thanks and may you enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Is pirate crew getting analytically graded for content and topic placement? Is there any ecomonic factor to it? I thought any premium subscribers, which I happen to be one, allows for the piggy bank to compensate the writers on recruiting and q and a specials. To me this is a recreational routine, a lot like when I was in high school and go to pro wrestling boards.

You are one whiny person. We get it, you think everyone here who doesn't agree with you has no empathy. If you are so upset that people don't agree with you, maybe go rant on Facebook.

Great stuff Dan.

You obviously can never win and who really cares. There will always be a bunch of wise ass people that want attention or think they are tough guys.
.
Nothing worse than a smartass, boring.

Go Pirates !!

Rumor has it you were on a golf course with clubs. "Playing" as a description of what you did is a bit of a stretch. Clubbing would be more accurate from what my sources told me.;)

Your sources are very good. Actually one of my better days. But still bad.

I guess we have different definitions of recreation.

Hey Dan,
In my opinion no one would be here if we were talking sports because there is no sports. I enjoyed the civil exchange of ideas and opinions. I thought having conversations about these topics should be encouraged. You still have 3 months to go! LOL
I might not agree with some comments, but that’s why we call them opinions. There is no right or wrong when people are stated opinions only the opinion itself. My hat goes off to you for encouraging the conversation, too bad we don’t have one more scholarship to fill.

HallDan - My issue is that you started some of these threads. 2 weeks ago you started a "Kneel vs Dont Kneel" thread on the Trove that served as "Red Meat" for allot of posters. This was the same day that "Myles Cale" gave an emotional speech in Delaware and Jared Rhoden ran into an issue with his friend at a protest.. Instead of starting "Kneel and Flag" threads start threads that focus on our ex and current players efforts, comments and struggles. Why did it take this long to post something about Walter Dukes? Why isnt Myles speech highlighted and what really happened to Jared Rhoden friend? Can you update us on these topics in this thread?

In Dans defense, The Walter Dukes article was up weeks ago, Dan was way ahead of the curve, and a very civil conversation and lots of posts occured. You probably missed it, don’t remember the exact headline or I would share it with you. Great story.

1, Would you be kind enough to find this kneel or don't kneel thread I supposedly started on the Trove.

2. If you can read I suggest you focus on two things....

a, The incredible number of posts I make every single day here pertaining to anything I can find regarding SHU.

b. The countless hours I toll on the Trove providing more info regarding SHU in a week than you will find anywhere else in a month or more. That includes recent long detailed stories/interviews with

1. Jahari Long
2. Bryan Felt
3. Jerry Carino
4. Quincy McKnight
5. Eric Bossi Rivals national recruiting guru
6. Dave Popkin
7. Jared Rhoden
8. Lauren DeFalco
9. Derrick Gordon
10. Gary Cohen
11. Pat Lyons
12. Multiple other recruits

3. Myles Cale's speech WAS highlighted on the free board by me. I again suggest you look for it. And BTW, I reached out to Myles through our school's SID to do an interview with him but he politely declined with the reason (understandably) that he was burnt out from all he was doing regarding the civil unrest.

4. The current Walter Dukes thread is no more than a repeat of a thread that was posted here approximately a month ago. Guess you missed that.

5. The tweet about Jared Rhoden's civil unrest was posted on this site. I guess you missed that too.

6. Finally, do you think I am privy to every single thing that happens at SHU? This is not a job for me. I am retired and do what I do here because of my love for the school. I doubt you will find many people my age spending the amount of time on these sites that I spend to pass on as much information about Seton Hall as I can. But I guess in your case it's not only unappreciated but it's grounds for complaints.

Myles Cale speech received it's own thread lol, and people who are against looting were very positive about it.
