If you have some time, this is a pretty good compilation of the issues in this election cycle. I'm interested to see who folks on this board agree with most, at least based on this website.

Much to my surprise, my top three were Rand Paul (80% match), Ted Cruz (73%) and Ben Carson (72%).

I matched 63% to Marco Rubio and 60% to Joe Biden, the best candidates on each side IMO.

Interesting site. When I got to the final question -- "who would you vote for?" -- I became very depressed.

that was a fantastic website but now I have to reconsider everything I ever thought about myself. if you asked me beforehand, i would says i was a moderate, falling to the left on some non economic issues. This website made me out to be a liberal wing nut, somewhere to the left of Bernie Sanders.

To summarize the results, there was a tight grouping of Biden and Bush around 70%. Kasich was at 55%. Rubio was in the high 30's along with Fiorina and Paul. Personally, i think everyone should take this poll; it is the most complete set of issues I have come across so far. I want to take it again to see if I can game the poll results.

Went through all of the extra questions as well. Some of those had a few of the more controversial topics. Worth clicking if anyone skipped them.

No surprises for me.

88% Hillary
86% Bernie
79% Biden (is he the only one on here who isn't actually running?)
64% Paul

94% Bernie. My Bernie bumper sticker & lawn sign will be arriving any day now too. Some of the questions were much too vague imo. There's alot more nuance to some of them (part. some of the immigration questions), but still a very good exercise. I think I was somewhere around 64% as well with Rand Paul, but I'm sorry I'm not voting for some maniac who wants to shut down the Fed, the EPA and the Dept of Education.

It depresses me to see you slowly turn into a Republican recently shu09. You had so much promise a few years ago! I can't see how as a young guy you can relate to any of those guys.

Carson 89%
Huckabee 86%
Fiorina 83%

Not surprised either...Have to remember, it's only issues alignment; doesn't factor in other equally important attributes, i.e. leadership, ability to get things done, gain consensus, etc. My most likely vote right now (subject to change)

Kasich
Fiorina
Carson
Rubio

This is my biggest concern with the democratic candidates. I don't really see Hillary or Bernie as consensus builders. I don't really see that on the right either though other than Kasich, but he has very little chance of the nomination.

blah blah blah.

Excellent give and take. That was a tongue-in-cheek comment, but to me, anyone who considers one of the two parties "right" and the other "wrong" is the large part of the problem. It's why we have career politicians, who pit the populace against one another, on an emotional level, largely regarding social issues.

My results:
Jeb Bush 76%
Joe Biden 75%
Bernie Sanders 75%
Huckabee 74%
Clinton 72%
Trump 68%
Paul 66%
Carson 63% (actually who I "voted" for)

No surprisingly, Hillary was my best match. I will not vote for Hillary

Funny that Merge and I would both feel this way about a guy who made his bones as part of the conservative revolution in the House of the 90s. Kasich is my first choice of the people running. I agree with you about Hillary, but I also think getting consensus is a far more ominous task than it used to be. Many guys in the House are opening themselves to unwanted challenges for re-election if they say hello to a Dem. And on this point, the right wing is far more unforgiving that the left wing. Clinton played with Newt, Ron with Tip, but now I am not sure people want to take the chance any more. Christie still gets heat about his praise of Obama after Sandy.

I think term limits are most needed in the House. Once you get in, you can threaten to throw someone off a balcony and still get reelected. A Dem got elected in Monmouth County with the LBJ landslide in 64. He stayed in office till he returned, and another Dem has had similar longevity. You should take a look at how this district was reconfigured in the hope to get rid of the Dem. But they stil win in a landslide regardless of who runs against them. That the tea party seems to have a big say in the repub candidate must make Pallone feel warm and fuzzy.

I agree on the term limits (and it should go much deeper with radical campaign contribution reform). It's funny how politicians can take cheap shots at pharma companies for the marketing money they throw around, but it's okay to inundate us with mind-numbing, negative campaign ads every election. The amount of money that is wasted on media is obscene.

Consensus building is hard, but that's what leadership is all about. Personally, I'm not going to compromise on that requirement of who I vote for. I'm really sick of divisive leadership, whether it be in Congress or the White House. As much as I have been disappointed in Christie after what I thought was a good start to his governorship, his welcoming Obama was the kind of thing that you do during a crisis to focus the attention on the victims of the storm. Kasich is the leader in the clubhouse for me in this area and I like that he's got a bit of an edge to him. Carson also talks the talk, and I've heard good things about him from the people down at Hopkins.

Sadly, like salesmen are taught right after KISS, sell the sizzle not the steak. Something about Kasich has always struck me positively. But no one is paying attn.

Did Reagan get any pushback from conservatives for talking to Tip O'Neal? I don't think so. But Christie still gets shit for that. IMO, this is a huge difference and the bigger culprit for the lack of cooperation than the people. How much money would a guy like a Koch brother, a guy who didn't like Boehner, throw at a primary challenge if he spent a lot of time with Obama? The two of them shaking hands, or smiling together would be the whole campaign against him. And it would work.

I'm not a Republican, I'm an independent thinker with an open mind who doesn't follow official party lines.

...and unfortunately a minority in today's sea of partisan sheep. A toast to 09!

Likewise, sir. Despite some of our disagreements on here, your independent thinking does show through.

Hear, hear. Clear that 09 has become more well-informed, thoughtful, and open-minded in the years since he was presumably a senior in 09. Ignore the clown who called you out on age -- he likes doing that. Apparently, ageism doesn't apply to his demographic: angry, ignorant, 30-something, wanna-be city dwellers who can operate a sound board about as well as anyone else with opposable thumbs.

I was amazed at how high Sanders comes out in these surveys. I took the survey about ten times. Getting a high Sanders number was easy. When I tried to answer all conservative, I actually got a 100% from Rick Santorum.

I also tried to create a mix that would hit the middle overall and it was not easy. In each case I could get reasonably close but if I was slightly conservative, my top 4 were all conservative, if I was liberal my top 4 were all liberal (more or less, there are fewer democrats in the mix). I could never get two from each party in my top 4.

The other stance suggestions were also pretty cool. Some were right on the money for me, others just made things worse but overall it was a fun poll to take.

Yeah it is fun to play with. I took it again without clicking any of the other stance suggestions and other questions, and I still got Hillary as #1 but Jeb as #2 and Rand Paul as #3.

Healthy debate is a good thing even if you end up agreeing to disagree. For some reason, that is not in vogue these days, so thank you for your contributions and passion.

I thought the survey was interesting and if anything, it summarizes most of the major issues and various positions. Who knows how they match the answers to the candidates....still trying to figure out how Huckabee got in my top five...lol.

I've come to the conclusion that only change will come when both parties are shaken up enough to realize that the public in general is disgusted with the lack of compromise and progress. Maybe if the majority of the electorate registered as Independent, it would open the door for more diversity of candidates that wouldn't have to align with polarizing platforms.

I got Rubio - 90%
Rand Paul was second with 78%
Kasich who I really like was 70% along with Carson.
Fiorina surpisingly was 72%
Trump 69%
Biden 63%
Christie 57%
Sanders 52%
Hillary 17%

Interesting site.

So I did this last night after having done this a few weeks back, they do change the questions to reflect the most current affairs (ie, Russia in Syria) and nobody should be too surprised by my results:

Top 3
90% Rand Paul
78% Ted Cruz
78% Marco Rubio

Other Serious Candidates
69% Donald Trump
68% Jeb Bush

24% Bernie Sanders
21% Hillary Clinton
