Wilcher

Texas and Sean Miller bound. He got him to portal with news about Ian Jackson to SJU coming later today.

Pitino really liked the kid but he ain’t a PG and his minutes would be very limited with Jackson, Sellers, and Sanon at 2/3 positions next year.

Keep telling yourself that. He has 2 5-star guards committed , a tremendous 3 point shooter from Stanford on the way, Bruce Hopkins in the fold, and preseason Big East Player of Year candidate in Zuby returning

Plus a stud point guard who has yet to even enter the portal on the way.

Nobody can trust Pitino #PDS

The SJ front court is going to be one of the best in the nation with Zuby and Hopkins. The SJ backcourt is a completely different story. Rick needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat at PG. he’s dropped the ball with the backcourt. 5 star rankings mean nothing

They will be stacked and kids usually love Pitino

This might be the year they can crack through the round of 32 for $10 million!

Dude—how much time do you spend reading this board?

I thought I felt bad for the SHU faithful.

Having a St. John’s guy that’s seen so many miserable years come on here to post and dispute SHU fans is in another league on its own.

It’s a shame St John’s has the most pathetic fanbase because I’d really like to root for them to carry the Big East standard over UConn.

One fan base has an alum who is a multi-billionaire, the other does not. Simple as that.

When you have that much money to shell out, you can just buy up players every year. And that's exactly what Repole is doing.

Seems weird coming on a rival board to gloat over it, though. Comes across as "We won the lottery, and you didnt. HaHaHa."

The players can't trust Rick.So much for player development.
Trust Slicky ???? Guess Simeon and Dad are not as loyal to Slicky when reality hit: (See below from last week)

The St. John’s basketball team is at the forefront of the transfer portal and things aren’t slowing down anytime soon.

It’s a big weekend for the Johnnies with scheduled visits from Princeton guard Xaivian Lee, North Carolina guard Ian Jackson, and Stanford guard Oziyah Sellers and the program is trying to position itself for the potential of landing all three guys.

Its pursuit of multiple guards would likely send current players at the position into the transfer portal, but that hasn’t been the case yet with Simeon Wilcher, who remains committed to returning for his junior season.

“I’m just a big guy on loyalty,” he said on Wednesday afternoon at Citi Field as the team was honored prior to the New York Mets game for its Big East championships.

“It wasn’t really too much of a process. I knew what I wanted to do already.”

There was also a desire from Rick Pitino wanting Wilcher back after the departure of Kadary Richmond and Deivon Smith from the backcourt due to eligibility restraints and keeping continuity of the roster with the additional exits of RJ Luis and Brady Dunlap.

“I wouldn’t be here if he didn’t,” Wilcher responded when asked if he felt wanted by Pitino.

“I’m not really worried about anything. I know we are going to bring in some guys because we need to because we want to win some games.

Does the SJU Board still prohibit non SJU fans from posting on it. I haven’t gone there for decades since posting was a Nono. BTW - could never root for SJU but have respected some of their players & really liked Louie C.

That article and the quotes perfectly sums up this era. It’s college basketball but it’s true for other professions too.

SJU will have top dollar talent. Let’s see how the millionaire egos handle Rick’s tough love.
They listened to him pretty good last year assuming the $$ spent is still the same ballpark.

And the one who it seemed may not have necessarily listened all the time was pretty quickly shown the door despite his top shelf talent.

We have Kurtz whose net worth is 4x that of Repole. He's smart, articulate, and not a basketball coach wannabe.

He will donate in his own time, to academics first, and not insist he be in the locker room with the team's coach, as Repole is!

Let's not forget the sordid stories about Slick - there is a book written by an award-winning journalist and the hooker and daughters who performed and engaged players at Louisville at Minardi Hall, named for Slick's brother-in-law who died in 911. Large wads of cash for entertainment and recruitment purposes that Slick said he knew nothing about - this from a control freak who Willard once said insisted his coaching staff maintain an appropriate weight. That was not all - payoffs to players and a certain encounter on a checkered tablecloth with the estranged wife of a staffer? Vacated championship, lack of institutional control.

Let's not celebrate the lack of control in NCAA basketball now, and all the funny money and lack of institutional sensibility, because you never know how ego and funny money can rear its ugly head again. I'm all for redemption. Hope Slick has learned his lesson and doesn't have other tricks up his sleeve to feed his and Repole's ego.

In the end, St. Johns will get burned just like every other school Pitino has touched. The fact that their fanbase thinks they’re an exception will make watching them eat their humble pie that much more enjoyable.

And they wouldn’t even need to do any of that to lure recruits in this day and age.

Pitino is one of the great program builders of all time. The performance speaks for itself. Aside from the scandal at Louisville, I’m not sure how all those programs were burned by him leaving given where he built each from. I mean using Kentucky as an example, he basically handed a title team to Tubby Smith Even Ville was probably in a better place overall despite the scandal.

No doubt he is still an elite coach. I mean Burned as in he will up and leave as soon as there’s another opportunity that stokes his ego. Even at this age.

Would Repole keep the money flowing without his man Pitino? I doubt it. At least not to the extent he’s been giving.

We shall see. New actors every season. Only the money is guaranteed, not the Chemistry.

Today it’s the Repole Red Storm. He owns the team. Time will tell how long he writes the checks.

They will no doubt worse off when Pitino leaves. A guy like that is basically irreplaceable as a head coach and program builder.

I don’t see how they are any different than everyone else who has NIL. Do the “Duke dark money” guys that paid a rumored $4.2 million for Cooper Flag alone run that program? How about Florida? Or anyone else. I get some of you guys hate them but I don’t see what makes it any different in this stupid pay for play era.

Of course we also have our own Internal Affairs - St. John’s Division.
I forgot. We are only supposed to post factually supported views about all the other Big East teams we talk about here except for them, because the NY Post covers them like a pro team and ignores us.

I think there are lots at every major school
who fall into this category. I certainly wouldn’t contribute to this grift if I had the means.
Well if you like basketball you would. 2 mil to a multi billionaire is chump change, or basically what I give to this grift.
