Willard - Desi

Good for Willard. Sounds like he's finally growing a set.

Run that kid until he pukes tomorrow. Bench him for Nova. If that doesn't work just throw him off the team.

The attitudes and team chemistry nonsense crippled Willard's teams in the past. Maybe Willard is finally realizing that. They are 2-0 in conference and entering a really tough stretch of games. If Desi wants to act like a prima donna then just throw his ass off the team.

The entire story isn't out, as it shouldn't be. Nonsense to be talking about the punishment and throwing people off the team.

Right on. Coach and team look to have grasped the crucial elements of the matter. We are cheering now for a positive result.

Love the way the team is backing the coach and not their team mate and friend..says a lot for our players..they are winners in my book.

He was mouthing off and it sounds like it wasn't the first time. Punishment was already dished out. If he continues with it, just toss him.

With none of us knowing all the facts nor do we have any indication of how extensive the issue is with Desi and our sole source of information are posters on this Board to suggest throwing Desi off the team seems not only draconian but a rush to judgement that is way too premature.

Decision making off "it sounds like" is just unintelligent. The people with all of the facts will do what needs to be done. Without knowing for sure and saying these things potentially makes the situation worse than what it is.

This is the same type of stuff we read every year on here with Gibbs/Sina, Keon Lawrence, Stix Mitchell. Where there's smoke there's always fire with Seton Hall. The fact that Willard is publicly acknowledging there is a problem and we've now seen him deal with it is encouraging.

Don't know exactly what happened but I would quite surprised if he doesn't start the next game.

Great job by Coach here. Desi has to learn and no Tiny to back him up. It's up to Desi. Coach will give him the chance to make things right and Desi will learn from this is my guess. Hoping for that but either way I like how he's coaching these kids and they will better for it in the long run.

Whatever happened to the time- honored philosophy of " Whatever happens in the locker room stays in the locker room". I have no problem with Willard making public any discipline he imposes but going into detail has always concerned me except in those cases where it involves criminal conduct. I'm more comfortable just saying its a violation of team rules and leave it at that.

With the media these days the details of what happened are going to come out no matter what you do. I applaud Willard for getting out ahead of this one. He took swift action and sent a message to the rest of the team. I'm no Willard fan but he's been ripped in the past for his veil of secrecy.

Maybe it's just our BEST player frustrated that a freshman who is struggling mightily is coming in for him. Idk any 19year old that would want to come out of a game.

Don't know the details but benching obviously justified and an apology is pending. After that move forward and continue this nice run. Love the way Desi plays and hope he's out there against Nova.

I give Willard credit here. He sent a message to the entire team. In the past he let the players control the team. See Robinson and Pope. Now it seems as if Willard has learned from his mistakes. Let's hope Desi does as well.

Whatever he deems necessary for a punishment is fine with me. We ain't beating Nova with or without Desi so in that regard it makes no difference.
Gee, guess there is no reason for anyone to make the trip down to their place then, huh? Just give Nova the 'W', stay home and prepare for Creighton! Glad you're not in charge!

Wow good thing you are not in charge. 1 suspension, 1 injury, 1 whatever causes a player to miss a game and you waive the white flag??? Great thing you are not in charge!!!

Easy dude! We all get where you're coming from but no one is getting tossed off the team bc he cursed at the coach. Sheesh

Given our history, I have no issue with mentioning the issue. And give the players reations, I am even more sure. This isn't Keon and Jamal etc, it is the opposite.

Wow, you totally misread what I meant! Bobbie Solo said we weren't winning against Nova either way. You can't go in with that attitude! Hopefully our team and coaching staff are thinking 'W' and not giving up before them even board the bus down there like Bobbie has already done!

I don't have a problem with Willard being spec

1. He is not our best player. He is very good. But isaiah is obviously the best, and imo, Angel and KC are 2 and 2a.

2. REALLY. I kid has the right to call out the coach cause he disagrees with a decision. You can't really believe that.

No one wants to come out. But in all the games I have watched today, no one else gave any shit to his coach but Desi.

We have 4 very good players for the first time I can remember. Desi is one of those and ish may emerge as a 5th, but agree that as good as Desi has been, he's probably 4th best at this point. But we need him so I hope they get this worked out.

Desi has to figure out that if he busts his ass on both the offensive and defensive side of the court, he will get to play ~25-30 minutes a night. He should be tired and we will need ~10-15 minutes of Veer to give him a blow. If he coasts on defense he is going to be parked on the bench next to coach.

I think KW gave us as much if not more info on the situation than most coaches would.

I'm sure it will be taken care of internally as should be the case. My guess is Desi realizes his mistake and will learn a lesson.

The best thing this message board can do for KW, Desi and the team's sake is to let it die.

Can't have it both ways. Willard has been strongly criticized on this board for his lack of discipline. Now we have an example of discipline meted out properly in my opinion and our coach still angers some.

This is on Desi not Willard. How he responds will dictate the degree of further punishment. It's that simple.

I just can't believe how a player could be suspended/benched for more than a half for poor attitude/cursing

The issue between Desi and Willard has become too much of a story and should be put to bed already. This is about a player's attitude and cursing his coach for being taken out of a game , You can't let issues like this fester, drag on or it will become far more of a problem than it is now. Any discussion about any penalty should be private, not discussed in the press and if any other penalty is assessed then just announce it and move on.

Willard handled the initial question asked by Carino well. He then answered a few others before getting annoyed that the subject was dominating the presser.

Eventually he said he'll talk to Desi and will decide how to handle the situation after they meet in private.

Don't know what more anyone would want the coach to do.

Not to mention, the kid isn't playing 40 minutes anyway... Shocking that this poster again uses this to take shots at another player.

Who knows, maybe he told Willard to go eff himself. We frankly don't know but that insubordination would warrant that punishment and more.

Must respect the coaches.

If this wasn't the first time he had altercations with Desi, he should have sat him down before and explain to Desi his thinking..if he did then what he did was deserving.

I think we're making it a bigger issue than it is. There was a problem, it was handled, that's it. If it continues to become another one of these situations where the locker room becomes fragmented and/or the team starts rolling over again, well then, so be it. That will take time to realize.
