Willard

Kevin better get off to a good start at Nova or he’ll find out how tough the Nova fan base can be if he doesn’t meet expectations. It will be interesting to see if Maryland takes some very subtle shots at Willard in response to his public comments on his future .

Of course Amaker achieved something Willard didn’t. If it wasn’t for covid Willard would have achieved something pj never did 5 straight tournaments. That wouldn’t make Willard the better coach because I can cherry pick 1 thing someone achieved that another didn’t.
No it wouldn’t you know why? Because PJ has a Final Four, a Final Eight and Sweet 16 appearances. That’s why.

And to the other poster who said Amaker had the most disappointing year. That’s not true either. The most disappointing year was PJ’s 1993 year when Western Kentucky knocked off the best Seton Hall team we may have ever had. That’s. Final Four team that got knocked off in the second round to Willard’s father.

Willard had inherited some good talent and did nothing with them. He blew an NCAA Tournament appearance by losing two games to bottom feeders Rutgers and DePaul. His teams got blown out in the NCAA tournament by teams like Woford. Most of us wanted him to leave here and were thrilled to get Shaheen in. We were all pissed off when Amaker left because we knew he had something special going here.

Has Maryland hired a new AD yet? Puts them further behind if they haven’t because no one is signing on without knowing who their boss will be.

Yeah you all thought players would be lining up for Shaheen and nobody thought we would be 3 years without a tournament appearance. You’re really raising the credibility here.

Enlighten us on what was going to be special about the 2001-2002 season under Amaker. He chose John Allen over Ben Gordon that year. MTE was never the player we expected due to his injuries. That’s no knock on those guys. I loved their years in pirate blue but that’s what you’re basing special on. Interestingly enough Amaker was out right around the time Brennan and Koz had their problems. Curious if he could’ve kept the recruiting up when SHU loses 2 big donors

Players would of lined up for She “if” the dollars were there.

The fact that he was recruiting and bringing in top 50 recruits was special. Amaker had it going here. Were you not pissed off when he left? I can guarantee that you were. Were you pissed the same way when Willard left ?

As far as Shaheen goes, he unfortunately came to Seton Hall in the wrong era of NIL. Money talks, nothing else matters. I have criticized Sha for the staff around him and not being good on program issues. Always thought he should have brought in a veteran coach and I would have preferred it to be Mike Rice. But, you can’t judge Shaheen when you don’t have any money. This NIL era just sucks.

I was pissed when both guys left. Money always talked. It's why we had to hire assistants to get top talent. People are living in a dream world that money is new. It's larger for sure. It's more out in the open. Tyreke Evans, Kyle Anderson didn't choose other destinations because Gonzo and Willard were second choices. They chose for the money. Comical to read that Sha can't be judged because we don't have money. We lost to Hofstra, Fordham, and Monmouth.

This was cowardly...he says to rodney rice he will be back now can't even meet the team in person has to do a zoom call...hope congressional terminates his membership

I’m not going to judge Willard for the career decisions he’s made but you have to wonder if he will look back and regret the way he’s handled his exits from both SHU and UMD when it’s all said and done.

I didn’t think it could get any sloppier after the way he left SHU but these last two weeks have been a fiasco and it’s almost entirely self inflicted on his part.

Pretty much the entire industry saw this coming the second it got rumored.

Why would you lie for your “source?” You were very adamant, and yet the exact opposite occurred…
guy is smug and can never admit he's wrong. his sources clearly aren't as close as he thinks.

I don’t think that’s fair. He has a good source at a Villanova, but it’s not like that guy’s first priority is to keep @HALL85 looped into the latest development. The tip aged as they sometimes do, and things change,

The dollars would be there if we had an AD with a clue and a university that knew the importance of fundraising and how to actually go about it. Get the right people in place and we’ll be fine. We need to stop being afraid of success.

You can’t compare eras. NIL with no sit out year is something completely different. This is semi pro basketball without a contract.

Holloway got ripped off of an NCAA tournament appearance in 2024. This year He had a bad year but he had really bad players. Is it his fault, yes to a certain degree. But he did go to a Final 8. He must have forgot how to coach? No. But his manner of building and molding players over 3-4 years was valued back than. Now, he will never be able to do that again. Players jump year to year. So you can’t judge him in the NIl era. He may be a bad coach for the NIL era. But he can still coach. His strength of a coach has been taken away from him by NIL

Being a northeast school in the Big 10 is murder. The travel alone time and costs.
Williard can now spend more time golfing since nova can now bus to half its opponents...

Got ripped off. Please the expectations were we weren't even going to be on the bubble. If Willard got left off the bubble you'd be saying you can't be on the bubble. You'll be bring up his bad losses to end the season in 2012 but ignore the 25 point drubbing at Nova and the 19 point loss in the BET.

Strength???? Calling TT's mom 400 times?

I don’t doubt the initial information was correct. But when basically the entire media/insider world has Willard as an option, he continually told them they were wrong. Probably would have been wisest to either not comment or check for an update.

We can't judge him in the NIL era???? So do we just keep going along and say well it's year 8, we still can't judge him we don't have the funds. Give him another extensions until the NIL era is over (which may be never). Or do we at some point say we need to make it to the dance or find someone who will make it to the dance with what we got. Only Blaney took over a program with the consistent regular season success. He didn't get very long here.

You’re right. I just thought the overall characterization of the poster was way off base.
