WSU Game Thread

Great win for the Pirates, especially considering that first half. Rodriguez and Sanogo were outstanding.

Funny moment at the very end, when Whitehead threw it out of bounds with 0.09 left in OT. FOX showed Willard, and you see Dave Popkin behind him, shaking his head, as if to say it just never fails...

But
That was a good win. Who knows what'll happen in the Big East, but at least we'll have one thing to hang out hat on in the OOC portion. A loss today and we were playing for the NIT. I know some disagree, but it was that important; we'd have been out of it by Christmas.

So funny how posters change like the weather..one sentence knocking him and can't understand why he is playing then praises him.

Completely true. We would have another weak resume with no top 50 wins. If we beat USF, that's 50% of what you need for a bid.

If we went 9-9 in conference, we can at least make the argument for a bid in March. If we go 10-8, I think we are definitely in. If we do 8-10 or worse, its another lost season.

How many layups can we possibly miss?
DUNK THE BALL. Worst case scenario you you get fouled. Either way, better than the weak layup attempts.

In any event , ecstatic about this win.

Agree Utah beat Duke today after WSU beat them and it was not at home and Georgia beat Georgia Tech. Need to avoid the conference meltdowns that have been characteristic of Willard teams and we will be in good position.

I was there. I was getting ouready fans into it, I was taking their fans out of it. Amazing win. We overcame unreal shooting. We outhustled, desi lead the team and put the team on his back. The dunk was the turning point and his fts clutch. In heaven go hall

Too bad all the good plays and tough plays were blacked by fox.

I just found this thread and read straight thru it. Hilarious. Certainly we all get caught up in the emotion of the game but jeez don't be so quick to criticize every play and you do it with such certainty. It's a long season but this is a very positive step forward.

Now I must ask, if you live in the area, why weren't you at the game? If you were, you would have seen and felt the intensity of the defense SHU was playing. You would have seen that with about 7 minutes to go in the 1st half that SHU was beginning to take control of the game. If you were there you would have seen that in the second half and in OT SHU was dominating on D. If you were there you could have actually helped the team by screaming your head off.

But it must be more fun sitting at home by yourself in front of you your TV posting negative comments.

Yeah, that's what a "game thread" is, a series of in-the-moment reactions without the perspective of knowing how a game ends or a day of further reflection.

Of course the final score looks like a big step forward when it's all over and a day later, but the game thread tells how the story unfolded, including quoting the television analyst who called our defensive effort "lazy" in the first half. Seeing how that fits into the larger narrative is what's interesting about the game thread.

Fair enough, but it just seems like the observations are tinged with constant negativity when we don't know yet how the game will turn out. But ok, I get it. Could have used a few more fannies in the seats though.

Meant to post this as I did not see anywhere else.

Is there a reason Anderson did not play at all? Just curious as I would have thought we would have seen him before anthony. Maybe law school finals or something? Injury?

Terrible decision to start Ish & keep him in for 7 mins. Need offense.

First time reading this thread so that's why I am replying now. .

Don't know why the hatred toward Ish but each time you post about him you lose a little more credibility!

A lot of missed opportunities. Down 8 isn't terrible considering. You're right could be worse, but score should be closer. Wichita was lights out from 3 until toward the end of the half.
That's what I said to Stu Jackson at halftime and he absolutely agreed.

We both thought SHU could come back and win the game after playing a very bad first half.

He plays one on one & it's annoying. I'm sorry but Ish is not a great defender at least not today. Put Nezi in!!!!
Thank God you're not the coach because you simply do not know the game!

I'm so glad I go to the games because as bad as this board can be some times, it's friggin awful when this group of sideline commentators are all that are here...

One thing that was evident is the team was gassed early. I don't think it was conditioning, I think it was being so amped up and then WSU hitting everything (yes they were open, but that pace of play and crisp passing early were something else).

My rule is generally staying away from the board 2 days after a loss... should probably be 3 after a win.

Some huge defensive plays were ignored. IW made that great block of the layup, Desi blocking Baker and recovering the ball, great steal by Derrick, and a few great plays by Ish coming up with the ball. These were all in the last 6-8 minutes and turned around the game and electrified the Rock. Ish, three steals, DG, three steals, KC 2 steals, IW, 2 steals and 4 BS. That is the stuff that will take us there if we go anywhere. We talk of our TOs all day and ignore the fact that we caused possibly the best back court in the nation to turn it over 11 times by themselves.
