And now a 3rd death today

His inclusion in the HOF, now posthumously is a tough call.

My take is if he just bet on baseball maybe there would be hope down the road. But his betting on games he managed and played in is a road too far traveled.

Baseball is understandably worried about illegal influences in the game as regards the public's perception of their gambling money being impacted. And athletes that bet either way on games they played in will not and cannot be tolerated.

Thus a player who should have been a no doubt about it 100% first year entry to the HOF IMO will never get that invite.

If I remember things correctly, at that time, the university was still trying to keep some distance between itself and any "NIL"-related activities. I don't think this would play out the same way today. It was a very clumsy start to things, that's for sure.
I know for sure Sha and all the other coaches in all the other sports are not but sometimes I think that the athletic department is satisfied if we are just competitive .

This is all just terrible execution. The best part of University day was taking your families to see the team scrimmage shake their hands and have them sign autographs. I have done this as a kid and would have loved to have done this for my children. There's no reason we couldn't have charged $25 for this inside the gym for University day. Taking the biggest draw to our school off campus on University day takes away from the University and it reeks of greed and stupidity.

We should be focused on smaller donations but larger get-togethers. $25 to $100 to support the team, especially during this period of high inflation. I don't mind buying a nice $100 hat but waiting 6 months for it is poor execution also. The events have been too exclusive and the premium's too high. The best part about Seton Hall basketball is sharing it with your family. Not spending $500 so you can rub elbows with a boosters. (There is nothing wrong with that either, but our fanbase is too small to provide enough money from the elite boosters.).
I agree. Some other type of fund raisers must be done . $100 hats that you are still waiting on and watches that nobody is buying are not moving the needle .

I will never understand why playoff baseball is scheduled for weekday afternoons. They so desperately want to grow the fan base back and yet they televise the best games when kids are in school and the adults are at work.
You must not be old enough to remember when most playoff and world series were afternoon games..

RU scrimmage with fans

Easy money, maybe. These events might be good for supplementing an otherwise decent NIL fund but you arent going to bank 2-3 million a year by asking the same 1000 people to fork over relatively small amount 20 times a year. Also, who pays the expenses to run event (printed posters, security, other staff needed)? If it comes from the event itself (and it should), a relatively small amount gets even smaller).
My point is their reaching out to their average fan base not just to the high rollers and making a few bucks while doing so. It is not like we are rolling in dough and have a large fan base that we do not have to do anything else except the beefsteak which is a good event but draws the same crowd every year .

Only one game, the 2:30 is truly afternoon start, most kids are getting out of school at that time and people who work will find a way to watch/listen if they want to, 2nd game starts about 4:15 so much of game is widely available.

Much prefer a 2:30 eastern start then a late night starts you see in the NBA/NHL early playoff rounds.

It’s 1000x better than being a bunch of 9/10pm est starts though. As much as day games aren’t ideal, late games suck even more

The game grew for decades when they didn’t have night games or even playoffs. The issue is the game isn’t played the way it was meant to be. Baseball celebrates the 3 most boring plays walks, home runs, and strikeouts. The inability to bunt, the inability to hit the other way kills the game. Imagine repositioning players with a shift or abbreviated shift on Pete Rose. He’d have 5,000 hits. You can put the game on the best times with the best matchups but if it’s you’re celebrating the 3 most boring plays it won’t grow. The game needs the ball in play more and more plays like the Jeter flip play, Brooks Robinson taking away a sure double, or dare I say it Griffey scoring from first.

Met him at that same restaurant and he was a jerk to my 10 year old son. Nonetheless, may he rest in peace.
Met him a charitable organization lunch which he was speaking back in 2018. He demanded that they put him up at the then Sands Casino instead of the hotel where he was speaking.

Having met him taking a photo 30 minutes before he spoke I didn’t think he was going to make it as he was pretty incoherent. He rallied somehow, got up and was entertaining although some of his jokes were chauvinistic cringeworthy with so many women in the room. But Philly fans give him a pass:).
