Xavier & Villanova

Our next two games this week are at home and against these two BE teams fighting for the NCAAT Bubble. Either getting in?

Xavier (17-10, 9-7) = NET 52, 1-9 Q1, 5-1 Q2, 11-0 Q3-4
Villanova (16-12, 9-8) = NET 50, 2-6 Q1, 4-3 Q2, 10-3 Q3-4 with 1 Q4 loss.

Per KP, Xavier played the 205th-ranked non-conf schedule and beat Wake Forest (NET 60), and South Carolina (NET 94). Nova played the 337th-ranked non-con schedule and beat Cincinnati (NET 46).

LMAO... We have the better non-conference win (VCU, NET 31). At NET 212, Seton Hall could tank either. Let's get them. Xavier has beaten us like a drum often and Villanova has been in our way from many things over the years.

No Reason to Overpay for Isaiah

Don’t you get it? You keep those guys and you supplement that group with two or three front line BE level players— PG, Big, Shooter. Won’t be easy and need $$$.
Need the big donors somewhere. I think it's still a problem even with the incoming revenue sharing.

I mean the small contributions won't get too far but they could help. If The Hall has 7,000 season ticket holders and you averaged a modest $250 donation once per year that's $1.75M alone to assist from small contributions.

The other issue is the portal opens in 2-3 weeks. Hope the money is already there.

Spike Protein study

Not the part I was questioning. You brought up mRNA delivery twice as if that’s what they were looking at as the cause.
They weren't though. They were looking at the spike protein which would exist in people for a period of time who were vaccinated with mRNA vaccines, adenovirus vaccines, or who were infected by the virus itself.

The control group also had even more doses of the vaccine than the testing group.
I brought up mRNA because there were concerns brought up by scientists in its development regarding long-term effects and not knowing how long spike proteins may manifest themselves.

Jerry - SHU player reunion

So, Ivy has me thinking of which two players I would take off the list (realizing that most of them would help us in some way) and put in our starting lineup. The first is a no-brainer for me - the best big on the board - Anthony Avent. Then I debated between point guard or shooting guard before ultimately settling on the shooter, Dan Callandrillo.

By the way, looking forward to seeing the reunion tomorrow! Great memories.

Jerry - SHU player reunion

It's a great thing, but we have to turn even a positive into an indictment of the entire University. Obviously, this group of guys (and more that couldn't make it) feels enough connection, with the school or with each other, to come back.
As far as the event itself, it’s also the type of stunning lack of common sense that is accepted at this school. They should promote it all over social media have a campaign with flashbacks, a cool thing, some of pride and content.

This is low hanging fruit.

Who ya got - Xavier

Xavier has won 8 of its last 11, with only losses in that span to St. John's in OT, Creighton, and at Villanova. And, as someone else mentioned, Xavier is seeking to keep their tourney hopes alive. Best three players on the Court are likely Freemantle, Conwell and McKnight. SHU coming off a dud.

Doing this just for the "likes".

QUEENS, N.Y. – Carnesecca Arena – 4:30 p.m. ET

TV:
BIG EAST Digital Network on FloCollege

Radio: 89.5 FM WSOU or WSOU.net

Live Stats: SHUpirates.com

THE GAME

Seton Hall will return to action on Sunday, February 23 when it heads to long-time local BIG EAST rival St. John’s. Tip time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET.

MEDIA

The game will be streamed live by the BIG EAST Digital Network and available for FloCollege subscribers with Johnny Gadamowitz and Edona Thaqi on the call. As usual, the game will also be available over the airwaves at 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net. CJ Weipz and Jackson Shank will describe the action on the radio. Live stats will also be available.

WSOU is also airing a post-game “Hall Line” show following its women’s basketball games. Be sure to tune in after the final buzzer.

LAST GAME

Graduate student Yaya Lops (Stamford, Conn.) had a team-high 15 points, but the Seton Hall women’s basketball team fell to No. 5 Connecticut, 91-49, in a sold out Walsh Gymnasium on Wednesday.

The Pirates played well, particularly in the first half, but Connecticut’s hot shooting neutralized Seton Hall’s defensive effort. The Huskies connected on 10 of their first 13 shots from the field and finished the game shooting 63.5 percent from the field.

Freshman Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) and graduate student Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) also reached double-figures in scoring. Eads had 12 points, two assists and two steals, while Masonius had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Red Storm: St. John’s leads, 50-40

Earlier this Year:

Seton Hall 57, St. John’s 48 (F) – January 25, 2025 (Walsh Gymnasium)

PLAYOFF PICTURE

With three games left, Seton Hall, Marquette and Villanova are all tied at 10-5 for third place in the BIG EAST Conference. A victory over St. John’s on Sunday guarantees The Hall a first-round bye in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. However, claiming third place is key to potentially avoiding defending champion UConn until the championship game of the tournament.

If the three teams remain in a three-way tie at the end of the season, Seton Hall will be the No. 3 seed by virtue of its victory in a multi-team tie-breaker. The Pirates control their destiny.

AGAINST ST. JOHN’S

Seton Hall and St. John’s will meet for the second time this season on Sunday. The Red Storm own a 50-40 all-time series lead, but the Pirates have won seven of the last nine meetings. Seton Hall is 6-2 on the road this season, while St. John’s is 8-5 at home. The Hall’s last victory at Carnesecca Arena came only two seasons ago, a 68-58 victory on Jan. 31, 2023.

EARLIER THIS YEAR AGAINST ST. JOHN’S

Graduate student Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had team-highs of 16 points and eight rebounds and the Seton Hall women’s basketball team pulled away from St. John’s in the fourth quarter for a 57-48 victory in Walsh Gymnasium on Jan. 25.

Trailing by five points early in the fourth, Seton Hall shut down the Red Storm the rest of the way, using a 14-0 run to take the lead for good.

Playing in her first game since Dec. 14, sophomore Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) scored 12 points, pulled down four rebounds and matched her career high with six steals. Freshman Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) finished with 11 points, three rebounds and three steals.

SCOUTING ST. JOHN’S

St. John’s was picked to finish fourth in the BIG EAST this season, according to the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Ber’Nyah Mayo was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

Unfortunately, the Red Storm haven’t lived up to expectations so far this season and enter Sunday’s contest with a 14-12 record overall and a 4-11 mark in BIG EAST play. St. John’s has dropped three of their last four games, including a 65-62 setback at Creighton on Wednesday. Lashae Dwyer currently leads the team with 13.2 points per game, with Mayo averaging a second-best 10.2.

UP NEXTSeton Hall will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 27 when it returns to historic Walsh Gymnasium for Senior Night. The Pirates will host DePaul with tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. The contest will be streamed by the BIG EAST Digital Network and available for FloCollege subscribers. 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net will also carry the game.

No Reason to Overpay for Isaiah

Upgrade at all positions.....if u can

Coleman...if he has the chance to get paid the same or more AND win, id be gone too

You have to. You have 1 BE starter on this roster right now. The rest are players 6-10 in the rotation, backups at best. Maybe a couple can give you something more as they're still young (Middleton, Erheriene, Dual). Like our early PJ teams that were this bad but had young guys that ended up getting us into the NCAAT as upper classmen. But you cannot bank on that.

But we're an NIL poverty school right now. We can't find donors. SHU has nobody willing to help unlike other BE programs. We're going to try to rely on revenue sharing, which every other team will do too. That's why we lose more BE starters than we bring in.
