Politico Subsidized by USAID to Attack SHU

Not saying that everything reported by Politico is incorrect, but bear in mind that this is a corrupt company which was being secretly paid by the Biden administration. Now that the money spigot has been turned off, it can’t pay it’s employees.
Does anyone care this isn't true? I assume not, but figured I'd ask anyway.

Enough is Enough: The Leadership Failures at Seton Hall

When Onward started, I said wouldnt it be great if we could get a thousand Guardians. That is a million a year. 20 people from each of the last 50 classes... or one sixth of he season ticket holders.

The response I got was Seton75 has lost his mind.

Fundraising is a 2 way street. Someone asks and someone says yes. And even if they ask poorly or rarely, if you care, you can write a check. Maybe the school sucks. That doesnt mean we might not suck too.
Wouldn't it be great if it was clear what a member received for being a Guardian level member? For the record I did not attend SHU, I graduated from Maryland in 2009. I will use Maryland to highlight some of the differences in their NIL campaign because I receive emails often.

I go on Onward Setonia and I am supposed to get excited about a thank you email, and a doubloons bonus (whatever that means)

I go on the Marylands NIL page and see that their membership levels offer the following:
  • Exclusive Club Decal
  • Exclusive Club T-Shirt
  • Exclusive Club Hat
  • Autographed Picture of Player of Choice
  • Exclusive UA 3/4 Zip Pullover
  • Personalized Video Message from Player of Choice
  • Attend a Practice with Guest
  • Foursome Entry in Golf Tournament
  • Autographed Collectible from Former Player

  • Meet and Greet with Players and Coaches
  • Limited Edition Signed Team Basketball
Maryland for anyone interested.

Fundraising is definitely a 2 way street, however the clear lack of effort on Onward Setonia's side is pretty evident.

Not that I’m going along with the premise of the post, but one thing about the whole story is how Politico is the one to have “broken” it. Politico is pretty much near the bottom of the list for breaking news stories when it comes to New Jersey. It makes me wonder if it was shopped around to many other outlets who passed. It’s not like the Catholic Church/Seton Hall are institutions they are out to protect.

I’m still working on the premise that there are three sides to this story, but even so, the school’s handling from a crisis communications standpoint has been horrible, which should surprise no one.
I don't think they're out there to protect or attack anyone; Seton Hall, and to a much larger and widely visible extent, the Church, shoot themselves in the foot often enough that there wouldn't be a need to fish for false narratives.

I wouldn't call Politico titans of journalism, but with the collapse of local media like the old Star-Ledger (and I know NJ.com is still, technically, a thing), there is a huge vacuum and Politico does have a New Jersey bureau (which might be a generous term for what it actually is), backed by a large national network. They also "showed their work," so to speak, so at least at first blush, they certainly seem like the more credible end of this story so far. Nothing Seton Hall has done so far remotely mitigates that. And the Church ... I mean, they forfeited their credibility on covering up sex crimes decades ago now.

EDIT: It should also be noted that nothing coming from Elon Musk or Karolyn Leavitt should ever be regarded as anything resembling the truth. Both have well-established patters of being wholly unacquainted with it. I add this after reading the story in the equally non-credible Daily Mail.

DEI not ok...but this is...what a joke

Like to know who on this board you are saying believes all women hires or promotions are DEI.One of my best bosses was a woman managing director before I became a managing director in a major investment bank. You seem to have disease that a lot of liberal democrats have of moral superiority so anyone who disagrees with you has extreme right wing positions which anyone at all fair knows is ridiculous Niw you know you can’t name me please provide names of a few posters who think all women promotions are DEI
I don’t think you will get a response

I don't think anyone here said or believes that... I think the point he is making that people complain about DEI as if to say people who are not qualified for a job are receiving it over qualified people, but then those people don't care that someone like Penny gets a job where he is clearly not qualified.

But that is the whole point of DEI - Considering if there are things outside of qualifications alone that would be a benefit to an organization.

I'm glad Penny was acquitted fwiw, and the company will use his "fame" for some publicity, just like companies had been promoting diversity to their advantage when that was valued as well.

The overall sentiment about DEI has backfired though. It is an easy target that is used as a boogeyman so less and less people are going to mention it unless clients / customers value it.

Yes - it is really hard to believe. Nonetheless, if we get better players for next year and play better basketball, the fans will show up again and so will the students. The support has really been good for the last 10 years.

It is very difficult to convince people to go to games where SHU is down 10 immediately, and never leads the whole game. It is just unfathomable how little we have led in Big East games. In addition, when you lose to Fordham and Hofstra to start the season, people check out early because there is no shot of making the tournament after those losses.
It's easy to rebound from one bad season. Fans tend to come back pretty enthusiastically. Repeated bad seasons? Not so much. The school needs to do whatever it takes to be competitive in NIL for next season. JMO

Also the style of play ( if there is a style of play) is boring and almost not watchable - holding ball in half Court corner or passing side to side on O and then wating till the 10 minute mark to press cause of double digit deficit does not attract Fans

You have to understand that coaches rarely allow vistitors to practice. So Jerry and I can only post what we see with the proviso that is only one viewing. Difficult to be accurate under those circumstance although I respectfully offer Jerry and I are correct far more than we are wrong.

Last season for instance I noted that Bediako played very well when I saw him and EHE struggled. I watched that practice after being told EHE was the better player. He was not and Bediako became a find.

Same with Gil when I saw him in his sitout year. Absolutely loved him.

Remember Q? Watched him once and said he would be our starting PG and was far better than his rating.

Then there is the Veer situation. I thought the Pirates had a major find, but I was wrong.

Watching a player once is no guarantee to correctly profile said player. But Jerry and I do our best to inform our readers.
I totally understand it... and I put almost 0 stock into it ever. Just as I wasn't excited about Yacine's video during this year's off season.

I wouldn't take it personal. I saw Daimon Fray in a pregame lineup his frosh year and just from his physical presence I thought he was going to be a beast.

And in further fairness to you and Jerry, the story Jerry wrote has glowing quotes from Whitehead about his shooting ability and Willard talking about what he's shown in practice to that point.

That's just the thing. There is always a shot to make the ncaa tournament. It's called winning the big east tournament.

Impossible odds maybe but a shot.
We probably have not led for more than 4 minutes in the 2nd half of all big east games, yet we will win 4 in a row. The way we are playing, if we didn't lose the first game by 15 points or more, i would be surprised.
