They were a pioneering legacy franchise and the nfl was still small ball operationAnd how did Wellington do in the 60s and 70s?? He should’ve sold! Right???
Jaguars, Panthers, Raiders, Bears, Jets, Dolphins, for the most part the Browns, for 50 years until recently the Lions. Those are all franchises that are run much worse than the Giants. Losing doesn’t always mean you’re a bad organization.I myself am not advocating Mara selling the team. I do not believe that he falls under the same umbrella as Woody Johnson or Dan Snyder who would be better off.
What I will say is that the Giants have been arguably the worst operated franchise in the NFL in the last 15 years. I cannot think of a franchise that has fallen from such a lofty perch to where they are today.
And it is not just on the field but off the field too. Tearing down Giants Stadium and building MetLife, a downgrade in just about every single way except in luxury amenities, while financing it through PSLs may have made the team more money, but in all other respects it was a historic boondoggle that left the franchise worse off. Remember when the Giants had a 25 year waiting list for season tickets? Having Giants season tickets was a point of pride, passed down from generation to generation. That's all gone now.
I think that Mara is a well intentioned man who is as passionate as a fan as anyone. It must be killing him that he has tried and failed to turn this team around. But if he truly wants to turn things around and bring the Giants to where they were before, then he needs to do some serious soul-searching and accounting of the decisions made over the last 15 years that have led up to this point.
He tried to be a construction worker, was a bell hop at a hotel, owed whitey bulger money, never paid him back and the ferrtita bros installed him as ufc pres after they purchased majority ownership of the company
It unfortunately happens. What franchise in any sport doesn’t go thru down periods? Changing ownership does next to nothing to fix it. Unless there’s true evidence of incompetence (such as the jets story about madden ratings).
As far as we know Mara has done nothing remotely close that.

Unless there’s true evidence of incompetence (such as the jets story about madden ratings). This isn't a post-Eli slump. The Giants have had two winning seasons since 2012. Even when Eli was with the team and having arguably most productive (individually) offensive years from 2012-2015 they were below .500 most of that stretch.

Please not this nonsense again. What does selling the team do? Some sort of billionaire football genius out there nobody knows about?
Both Daboll and Schoen were very highly thought of before they were hired. They didn’t hire incompetent people. Sometimes it’s bad luck.
How many franchises succeed after losing a generational franchise QB? It takes time and luck. How are the colts, patriots, Saints, Steelers doing the last 5 or more years?
Did those owners become idiots overnight too?
Did the Hunt family in KC finally figure out the secret to football after 50 years or did they get lucky with a QB and coach available at the right time. By your logic they should’ve sold the team a long time ago.
I guess Mara just decided he doesn’t care anymore after the team went to 5 super bowls in 25 years. Sure.
Such made up hysteria.
Merge what is his success?Very successful guy and certainly worth having on the board for them.
