State of the Union After 3 Games

One thing people are missing is we lost to Fordham and Hofstra. They're not bad programs by any means but they're definitely programs we should be able to out recruit and beat. So while I hear what everyone is saying about the NIL and the portal, a lot of the struggles we've seen so far in the non conference part of our schedule is on Coach Sha. If we were losing to UConn and Creighton you'd have a point but Sha failed to put together a roster that can beat mid major opponents at home. This team looks like a MAAC level program which which is where Sha came from. TBH his recruiting so far hasn't been very good. 2 out of the 3 freshman he brought in last year were way out of their league in Ozdogan and Malachi Brown. Sha can coach but his eye for talent as a recruiter at this level has a ways to go

Sha’s biggest problem going back to St. Peters has been his offense. Point blank he is compensated way too highly for his offenses to play so consistently anemic. In this day & age thats a death sentence. Like Willard he seems to have too big of an ego to let someone else run it. Team has no system, no identity. Experienced talent last year carried them but you still had periods of drought. In terms of his style he’s actually quite similar to Willard.

Honestly, can anyone answer this question - what is Sha’s offensive philosophy?

Don't over think it - Defense has been good

Plus Danny has detailed publicly how he came to the point of realization that it had to be more of an offensive focus, which people can appreciate.
this isnt hockey where you win a game 1-0. if youre not consistently getting FGs you're going to lose. and a lot of good defense can lead to turnovers which only matter if you can run a successful break. which we cant.

No doubt, and I'm sure Murray and Hurley's evolution as a coach has been a big part of this, but Uconn also "upped" the talent level from his first few teams at Uconn. At least on the offensive side. That goes to recruiting and player development, and identifying kids who fit what they want to do who might not even be the biggest blue chip recruit in the world (though they get some of those too).

Don't over think it - Defense has been good

Although their defenses are different, Sha reminds me of Hurley in his first few years at Connecticut. Both made a disruptive defense the cornerstone of their programs. After Danny got bounced in the first round of the NCAA's two years in a row, he recognized that defense alone won't allow postseason success. Enter Luke Murray, who really upgraded our offense. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's all Murray and not Hurley, but he was the catalyst for Danny developing into a great offensive coach.

KR NY Post Headline

Am I missing something or has St. John’s won all three of their games by a wide margin?
And Richmond is about 7-6-6 so far, 47% from the field and 40% from 3. Small sample size, but not taking a lot of shots, and probably deferring some which is kind of the guy he's been most his career. Kadary has never been a game-in, game-out big time scorer unless he was forced to play that way by circumstances. I always thought he more of a hybrid PG or point-forward than a true PG because his skillset for his size is different and unique.

So no one here has voted for or is going to vote for the treasonous coup-attempting felon rapist guy, right?

You have to be extremely partisan and completely lost to think the dems did well. God Bless.

He had one honest, reasonable post, and now back to the unintelligible, illogical silly posts we have grown accustomed to over how many years? And he's now probably north of 40.

Sha is an outlier to how college basketball has evolved. It helps him in many ways as often opponents aren't prepared for playing his style. Slowing pace, very physical, attacking the paint, crashing the offensive boards is his offensive strategy. But it limits his offensive potential and can be a very grinding existence for his players.

The best coaches evolve. And to not embrace spacing, fast ball movement, pushing pace at times and shooting more 3s is a questionable strategy.

It can also depend on what type of talent you have. Other than last season, Sha hasn't had a lot of offensive talent to work with. Hurley was a defensive-minded coach who has become an offensive juggernaut the last few years. But how much of that was able to improve by the type of talent he began to bring in when returning to the BE?

The Giants - New Low. Approaching Howard Beale Status

Darnold and Wilson are starters….. Wilson was hurt to start the year. Come on man. I literally provided an up to date list.
Vikings drafted McCarthy and were allowing there to be an actual competition for the QB1 job. Fair enough if you want to say Darmold was a starter, but he was not a cemented number 1 and before he got hurt, McCarthy was seriously challenging for the job. Jones has never had to compete for the job with the Giants.

I get it. You are sold on Schoen and Daboll and I am not. I don't trust Schoen to rebuild. He clearly has little feel for locker room chemistry issues and cannot feel good about the post game last night with Eagles fans chanting Thank You Giants. Mara keeps reliving his nightmare each week.

I just want the Giants to have meaningful football after Halloween next year.
