Very poor performance down the stretch of this game and in OT. Uncharacteristically discombobulated offensively and a lot of bad body language from their players. Scheierman a liability in OT - choked at the foul line and rushed the last shot.

Not sure why Mac had Farabello running the point instead of Ashworth. Big mistake.

• Winners of five of its last six games including three victories over AP Top 25 teams, the Seton Hall men's basketball team hits the road again this week starting with a 6:30 p.m. contest at Georgetown on Tuesday.
• At 118 meetings, Georgetown is The Hall's second-most frequently opponent.
• Although the Hoyas lead the all-time series, 60-58, the Pirates have won five consecutive meetings against the Hoyas and nine of the last 11 matchups.

Another trip down memory lane...

I’m guessing we are the second team out with “other receiving votes”.

Last season Seton Hall ranked exactly 300th nationally in FT shooting (68.4%). This season they sit at 46th in the nation (75.8%).

To go from 300th to a top 50 team in the country with largely the same group of players is a testament to the work ethic and focus of these guys.

Take yesterday for example: 14-16 from the line and we needed every single one of them. Plenty of past Seton Hall teams probably let that game get away from them.

THE GAME
Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday, January 9 when it returns to Walsh Gymnasium to host BIG EAST rival No. 23 Marquette. Tip time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.

LAST GAME
Freshman Savannah Catalon (Burleston, Texas) had a game-high 17 points to lift the Pirates to their second BIG EAST road victory of the season, a 64-50 victory over Butler on Saturday.

After shooting just 5-for-39 from three-point range in its last two games, The Hall broke out from downtown against the Bulldogs, going 12-for-22 (55%). Butler was also impressive from deep, hitting 10 three's, but netting only nine two-point field goals.

The Pirates' defense was what we've come to expect, holding Butler to just 50 points. It's the eighth consecutive game that The Hall has held its opponent under 55 points.

Catalon had 17 point on the strength of 5-for-8 shooting from three point range. Micah Gray (Oklahoma City, Okla.) finished with 16 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) added 13 more on an efficient 5-for-7 shooting, including 3-for-3 from downtown.

AGAINST MARQUETTE
Seton Hall and Marquette will meet for the 30th time in history on Tuesday with the Golden Eagles owning an 18-11 all-time series lead. The teams split the season series last year with The Hall defeating then-No. 24 Marquette, 82-78, in Walsh Gym on Dec. 4, and the Golden Eagles getting revenge in Milwaukee, 80-61, on Jan. 22. The Pirates are 9-5 all-time against Marquette at home.

SCOUTING MARQUETTE
Marquette went 21-11 overall last year and tied for fourth in the BIG EAST standings with a 13-7 league mark. MU defeated St. John's in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament, but fell in the semis to top-seeded Connecticut. The Golden Eagles made their second NCAA Tournament in the last three years and have averaged nearly 22 wins per season under Megan Duffy. They fell in the opening round of the NCAAs to South Florida, 67-65.

MU returns leading scorer Jordan King and No. 2 rebounder Liza Karlen but will have a big hole to fill with the graduation of Chloe Marotta, who was second on the team in scoring and tops in rebounding. The Golden Eagles added a number of key pieces in the offseason, including Lehigh transfer Frannie Hottinger, who was the 2023 Patriot League Player of the Year. Lee Volker (Duke), Abbey Cracknell (Gulf Coast State College) and Bridget Utberg (Central Michigan) join Hottinger as the four new faces coming to Marquette by transfer.

The Golden Eagles were picked to finish third in the BIG EAST this year according to the preseason coaches' poll. King was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, while Karlen was an Honorable Mention.

Marquette is off to another strong start in 2023-24 and enters Tuesday's contest with a 13-2 overall record and a 2-2 mark in BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles had won 12 straight to open the year, but suffered back-to-back losses to Connecticut and St. John's last week. Most recently, they routed Xavier, 81-52, on Saturday.

UP NEXT
Seton Hall will return to action on Saturday, January 13 when it travels to Cincinnati to take on BIG EAST rival Xavier. Tip time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The contest will be nationally televised on FS1 with John Fanta and Kim Adams on the call.
