Now on to Gtown

This is going to be a quick turnaround going to GTown. Sha is going to have his work cut out for him. Only one day of practice on Monday. This is where the players themselves have to regroup and get into the proper mindset for the game at Gtown. They used an awful amount of energy playing at Providence and then home at The Rock. A letdown could be normal, but they can't let that happen. Gtown is having a so so season and there may not be a huge crowd. This is not the Patrick Ewing Gtown team and this coach has a proven track record. With success comes pressure and now Seton Hall will get extra attention. Sha expanding the bench was a breath of fresh air and now The Hall can go 8 or 9 deep. Those reserves have to be ready to repeat their performances moving forward. Absolutely no way should the players be overconfident. I'm hoping the core guys get it at this point.

Dawes

I’m sure the usual suspects will immediately return to whining about Dawes being the “golden boy” or “not facing consequences” next time he has a bad game, but today is case and point why Sha leaves him out there through his struggles.

Dawes is simply the only player on our roster with the ability to shoot us back into a game in a matter of minutes. And that’s exactly what he did today. Down 10 early with no signs of life and Al ignited the spark that led us to yet another top 10 win.

Dare I say he looked Myles Powell-esque? Incredible game by an incredible kid.

Seton Hall Basketball Predictions Update Jan 7, 2024

After beating Marquette 78-75 yesterday, Seton Hall is now projected to finish the regular season 17-14 (10-10 Big East).
The odds that the Pirates make the NCAA tournament are up to 22%, an increase of 12% since yesterday.
We currently rank Seton Hall as the #65 team in the country, and the #8 team in the Big East.
Next game: Tue, Jan 9 at #153 Georgetown. Our power ratings give the Pirates a 68% chance to win.

Props to Dre Davis

for a couple CRITICAL buckets late in the second half to help fend off the collapse after being benched to start the second half. Particularly since Sha is typically very ride or die with his starters. Would have been easy to sulk and pack it in. I'm sure his stat line for the game isn't great but this one may have slipped away without his contributions late.

The Hall improves to 2-2 in the BIG EAST after its second road win.
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Freshman Savannah Catalon (Burleston, Texas) had a game-high 17 points to lift the Seton Hall women's basketball team to its second BIG EAST road victory of the season, a 64-50 victory over Butler on Saturday.

After shooting just 5-for-39 from three-point range in its last two games, The Hall broke out from downtown against the Bulldogs, going 12-for-22 (55%). Butler was also impressive from deep, hitting 10 three's, but netting only nine two-point field goals.

The Pirates' defense was what we've come to expect, holding Butler to just 50 points. It's the eighth consecutive game that The Hall has held its opponent under 55 points.

Catalon had 17 point on the strength of 5-for-8 shooting from three point range. Micah Gray (Oklahoma City, Okla.) finished with 16 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) added 13 more on an efficient 5-for-7 shooting, including 3-for-3 from downtown.

THE STORY:
A fast-break layup by Baines gave The Hall an 11-7 lead in the first, but the Bulldogs closed out the quarter with a 9-0 run to grab a 16-11 lead. The Bulldogs connected on four made three-pointers (4-for-7) in the first, compared to only two made field goals inside the arc.

Seton Hall ratcheted up its defense in the second, holding Butler to just one made field goal over its first 15 shots. The Pirates drubbed the Bulldogs to the tune of a 19-2 advantage in the quarter until Butler hit a three-pointer with 23 seconds to go before halftime. A layup by Gray with only one second left sent The Hall into the locker room up, 32-21. Catalon scored 11 points on the strength of 3-for-5 shooting from three-point range in the second quarter alone.

After Butler cut its deficit to 38-30, the Pirates went on an 8-0 run, and a pretty post move by Makennah White (Farrell, Pa.) gave them a 46-30 lead with 2:45 left in the third quarter.

The Pirates opened the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run, and a three-pointer by Gray with 6:14 left in the game gave them a commanding 59-33 advantage.

Box

Newark, N.J. - Behind 23 points from Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) and a 21-point effort from Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.), the Seton Hall men's basketball team picked up its second straight win over a ranked opponent and its third in the last four games with a 78-75 victory over No. 7 Marquette on Saturday at Prudential Center.

The Pirates shot the ball efficiently throughout the day, posting a 52.7 percent clip from the field. With the win, the Pirates improve to 3-1 in BIG EAST play with all three victories coming against teams ranked in the AP Top 25, including a pair of top-10 foes.

How It Happened

Seton Hall took its first lead following three made free throws by Richmond after he was fouled in the act of shooting behind the arc. After falling behind, Dawes' first three-pointer of the afternoon trimmed the Pirates' deficit to one, 14-13, but the Golden Eagles used a 9-0 run to take a 23-13 with 12:47 to play in the first half.

The Pirates' next field goal was Dawes' second three and it kicked off a 25-7 run that turned a seven-point deficit into an eight-point Seton Hall lead, 38-30, with 4:21 left before halftime. A 7-0 run with under three minutes left in the first half helped bring Marquette back within one, 40-39, but a floater along the baseline by sophomore Jaquan Sanders (Queens, N.Y.) with 55 seconds left in the half that gave the Pirates a 42-39 lead going into the locker room.

Marquette opened the second half by tying up the score at 42-42 on a three-point basket. The Pirates countered with a Richmond layup and six consecutive points scored by Dawes that pushed their lead to six, 50-44. Two made free throws by senior Dylan Addae-Wusu (Bronx, N.Y.) off of a steal and another basket in the lane by Richmond made it a 10-point Seton Hall lead and it forced Marquette to call a timeout with 15:41 left to play.

The Pirates' switch to a zone defense helped stymy the Golden Eagles on offense but they continued to chip away and made it a two-point game, 56-54, after a three-pointer with 11:58 to go. Marquette would later tie the score at 66-66 with 5:46 to play before a dunk by junior Elijah Hutchins-Everett (Orange, N.J.) off of a Richmond feed with 4:34 to play put the Pirates back in front for good.

A 10-0 run capped off by back-to-back fast break dunks by Richmond and senior Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) matched the Pirates' largest lead of the game with 2:26 to go, 76-66, but Marquette wouldn't go away quietly. Despite costly turnovers that made it a one-point game with 40 seconds left, Davis delivered with a huge bucket and the Pirates' defense forced a turnover on the other end that sealed the victory.

Regarding SHU Men's hoops: In Sha, We Trust

Hey, we have all had at least a bit of doubt about both this year's and last year's teams and overall philosophy and plan. However, watching what has transpired in 2023-24 season, from OOC schedule to Big East schedule, I will no longer EVER doubt our beloved alum and Head Coach, Shaheen Holloway!

- He says we have the best backcourt in the Big East, well we do.
- We were all complaining about our lack of bench, and presto, yesterday our bench was a main contributor in a Top 10 victory.
- Shaheen credited the crowd in his post game interview, I applaud those at the game and even at home for the SHU spirit and emotion they laid on the line yesterday. Great job by the "sixth man".
- Defense wins games, and as Sha has noted, even in those game where the offense is not up to current standard, defense keeps you in the game. Defense is about desire, effort and relentlessness. Sha teaches these characteristics.
- Rebounding also falls into same category as defense, desire, effort and relentlessness, and team has surprised the hell out of me in this regard.
- Al-Amir Dawes is a leader of the SHU team, please all embrace him as what he is: a team leader, an offensive force and an exceptional free throw shooter, I wouldn't want any other shooter in the Free Throw Line with game on the line.
- There is still much work and improvement to be made, but let's take a minute to relish the situation we, as SHU fans and alum, now enjoy!

Bravo, Shaheen Holloway, we applaud you as you represent us and our school.

Additionally, HallDan, best wishes with your surgery and recovery, we need our lead fan to make this fantastic season even better! Go Seton Hall Pirates!

This is not the same team

Anyone who says dumb stuff like “where are all the naysayers” and “how about Dawes now” just won’t get it. This is a different pirates team than just 3 weeks ago. I’ll take that version of Dawes any day. Like any player, he made some mistakes. But he played under control for the most part and took good shots.

But the defense, the movement, everything has changed. We can be a solid team playing this brand of basketball.

I love that he played backups, bench contributed significant minutes. They shut down Kolek. They played with hustle. Loved it.

Jerseys-Onward Setonia-Customer service issue

So I bought a youth small Isiah coleman jersey for my son and it was extremely small. I sent 5 emails to see how I can do an exchange for a larger size to info@onwardsetonia.com and finally got this response:

We apologize for the delay in the response. Unfortunately for replica jerseys, all sales are final as we do not stock any product. The measurements for the jerseys are listed on each of the product pages. It is made on-demand and can not be exchanged. If there is an issue or damage with the product, a replacement can be requested and fulfilled within 7 business days free of charge.

Did anyone try to do an exchange for a different size? Or does anyone know who I can contact to try to get this resolved. I did this to contribute to NIL and am also a season ticket holder and I get totally screwed
