##### 2024 BIG EAST Prediction Contest: March 5-6 #####

Only two sessions (10 games) remain. Five players went 5-0 this weekend, including our leader @GrMtWoods. As a result, the lead is now up to three games with @vegaspaul82 remaining in second place. @hallball and @hoops41 are tied for third. The final two sessions have a bunch of competitive games, so this race isn't quite over yet. More than half of our field is on pace to hit at least 80 correct picks this season. You all know this league quite well!

Was Kevin Willard always like this?

Two years in at Maryland and we're ready to launch this loser into the sun.

Play on a Saturday after losing on Thursday? The schedule is unfair - too quick of a turnaround
Play on a Saturday after losing on Sunday? The schedule is unfair - too long of a layoff

This dude lost at Michigan State on a Saturday, flew home to Maryland and lost to Rutgers on Tuesday, and complained about the travel. Rutgers played at Michigan on the same Saturday and then had to go to Maryland!

He runs no offense, he's lifeless on the sideline, and he blames everyone but himself after losses. He surrounded Jahmir Young with the 348th-best shooting team in the country, then throws Young under the bus after he couldn't single-handedly win a game for him.

I read this forum during the coaching change and all of last season. You all said the honeymoon act would wear off quickly and it did. He was all smiles, kissing babies, and pandering to the fan base for the first six months or so. Now he's sending assistants to do his weekly radio spots because he doesn't want to answer softballs from the team's play-by-play guy.

(I know a lot of you are sick of the Willard talk and have moved on, but this is therapeutic. This thread is for Haters Only™)

Even if we lose id like to see a few things

1. I love shaheen and hope hes here for 20 years but these guys havent learned to run an offense other than playing 1 on 1. Its sad to wqtch. Idk if theybarent taught or just not executing.

2. Kadary.....for god sakes. Please stop giving the ball up and disappearing. You are the pg. Run the damn point. Like isaiah thomas said. " i control the movement of 9 guys on the court" make the defense move. Your 3 pt shot is slow, ugly and shot with zero confidence. U can move the defense on drive and kicks and by not picking up your dribble. Same goes for the rest of the guards, if u dont have a shot or the angle keep ur dribble alive. Be unselfish and keep the ball moving

3. Shaheen goes nuts over mistakes. Why does he allow dylan to have the ball in his hands as the ahot clock running down. Hes the worst offensive player on the court and u choose him to make the decisions under 10 sec on the shot clock. I know sha likes positionless basketball but not w this squad. Kadary needs the ball in his hands to start every posession.

Notes You Need To Know
  • Winners of three of its last five games and coming off of a two-game road trip against two teams currently ranked in the top 10, the Seton Hall men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Prudential Center on Wednesday evening.
  • Picked to finish ninth out of 11 teams in the BIG EAST preseason poll, the Pirates are in sole possession of fourth place in the BIG EAST standings at 11-7.
  • The last six meetings between Villanova and Seton Hall at Prudential Center have been decided by single digits dating back to the 2017-18 season.
  • Seton Hall's eight 10-win seasons since realignment in 2013-14 is tied for second in the BIG EAST:
10+ BIG EAST Win Seasons since 2013-14
1. Villanova - 10
2. Seton Hall - 8
Creighton - 8
Providence - 8
5. Marquette - 5

  • After posting the best season by a first-year head coach in program history, Shaheen Holloway is once again raising the bar for Seton Hall head coaches as he now owns the most wins and BIG EAST victories by a head coach in his first two seasons.
Most Wins Most BIG EAST Wins

1. Shaheen Holloway (2022-24) - 35 1. Shaheen Holloway - 21

2. Kevin Willard (2010-12) - 34 2. Tommy Amaker - 17

3. Tommy Amaker (1997-99) - 30 3. Louis Orr (2001-03) - 15

Richie Regan (1960-62) - 30 Kevin Willard - 15

  • Holloway is one of only eight coaches in BIG EAST history to win 10 BIG EAST games in each of his first two seasons, joining Bob Huggins (West Virginia), Jamie Dixon (Pitt), Mike Brey (Notre Dame), Paul Evans (Pitt), Buzz Williams (Marquette), Mike Jarvis (St. John's) and Chris Holtmann (Butler).
  • Seton Hall is 11-3 at Prudential Center this season and 6-2 against BIG EAST opponents.
  • Kadary Richmond, who's one of two players in the BIG EAST (Devin Carter, PC) to rank in the top 10 in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals in league play, is one of 40 players named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy and All-America Watch List.
  • Dre Davis is making a case for being the BIG EAST's Most Improved Player as he's gone from averaging 18.8 minutes and 9.6 points per game last season to 31.8 minutes and 14.4 points per game this season.
  • Jaden Bediako ranks second in the BIG EAST and eighth in Division I averaging 3.8 offensive rebounds per game.
  • The Pirates are 16-5 this season when Al-Amir Dawes scores in double figures and 7-2 when he's the team's leading scorer.

How Seton Hall Can Win

There are two versions of Seton Hall. The team that plays at home and the one that really struggles on the road. Thankfully, this one is at Prudential. This is a very winnable game. Villanova is playing much better and their win at Providence was impressive. Since their 5-game losing streak, they are 6-2. They are playing solid defense but are averaging just 62 points per game on the road as opposed to 73 at home in those 8 games.

I believe SHU must not allow Brendan Hausen to have a big game off the bench. Along with the improved play of Justin Moore, he has been a catalyst in Villanova's upswing. Seton Hall must swarm Villanova and come out with the energy they had at home against Xavier and Butler. This has to be a top-notch defensive effort. I think you live with Dixon scoring his points, but try to limit the rest of the Nova guys on the perimeter. On the flip side Seton Hall has averaged 79 points per game at HOME in conference play. Our guy's love playing at home and that could be the difference. The core guys need to show up. I think Dawes goes off and is the difference. If Addae-Wusu is not scoring he still has to do all the other things that are vital. Also, the bench guys have to contribute something. Coleman has to play with smarts and score where he can. Bediako has to show some anger and finish his plays. So important that WE the fans do our part too. We have to be into it from the start. Sha and the coaching staff better have them ready!! This is not Grandma's Villanova. Overwhelm and Crush them!!

NIL idea part 20

I’m Looking at 2 additional tickets for tonight. I’m seeing $25-50 in fees per ticket.

Is there a way for Onward Setonia to broker ticket sale / exchange for Pirate season ticket holders where the full cost of the exchange can be made as a donation to NIL or a standard % goes to the seller and the rest to the Donation?

If 100 season tickets are sold / transferred for these big games at a $50 donation per ticket on the secondary market. We’ll add $5k to the NIL pot doing exactly what’s being done anyways without even asking. 2-3 times per season adds up

Not sure if this is feasible or not, but seems like it would be worth exploring in our current state of NIL…

The Nova Hex

Can we finally break it? 0-8 since 2020, and we all know they have beaten us in so many HUGE games over the years, usually in heartbreaking fashion.

Can we finally beat them? Their team is all about the 3PT shot. That’s why they were bad early and good now in the BE. Plus they’re a good defensive team. Those areas usually don’t bode well for Seton Hall. 🤷‍♂️
