Hello. If you remember a few months back I mentioned people will not be willing to take the Covid vaccine and this will prevent the pandemic from ending. It looks like now we are heading toward this direction. Per monmouth poll 25% of americans will not take covid vaccine. If this is true. No end in sight for the pandemic. Unfortunately it looks like I will be right again.

Also some posters claim they think we will be back to normal this summer. However this will not be the case. Only 29% think we will be back to normal in the summer. We will not be back to normal for 3 or 4 years down the line at this point.

Also Tony Fauci noted that we need 70% of americans to be vaccinated. Current % vaccinated is = 2%. We have a very long way to go. And the variants might stop this progress. We still have a couple to a few years to go.

I would disagree with this take. The South African variant looks like it will be rampant and the preliminary findings find the vaccines are less effective

Yeah, obviously something to watch but I'm not on that panic train. fwiw, I think what happens in Israel from here on will be telling about how effective the vaccine is. They have fairly broad adoption of the vaccine. If the vaccine is as effective as we hope, we should be able to see that impact in Israel fairly quickly.

lol, yeah I think where we do agree is that the current environment is really not sustainable in the long term.
I saw these steps as buying time to get to a point where we had a very effective treatment or an even better option, a highly effective vaccine.

Once people have had the opportunity to get vaccinated, then that is the end of my support for any restrictions.

Also 75% doesn't guarantee herd immunity. It might need to be as high as 80-85%. We have a way to go, my friend. Those on this board who think we will have a maskless normal summer are just wishful thinking.

Because I don't want to give false hope. Should we listen to the experts or not? Majority of experts are saying the threat of the variants are getting worse and we might have to double down on efforts such as shutdowns and social distancing. Exactly. If we aren't back to normal by the freaking summer our addressing this will be even more of a failure than it's already been. I'm not anti-vaccine at all, and I've had doctor-friends tell me that if you fit my profile (young enough, healthy, without any underlying health conditions) there is no reason for me to even get the vaccine if I don't want to. Ditto for my kids. Right now my view is from where I stand, it would be selfish of me to try and jump the line anyway because it should be going to the front-line workers, older people and those of any age with certain high-risk health conditions.

She said they are about half full and trending lower but only a few on vents and things are definitely trending in the right direction. Not seeing many deaths at all but when they do its when a patient comes in too late. She also said they have things down pretty well and have so many more treatments they can use. She said they've come a long way since last March. Thought that was good news.

Same here. I've taken vaccines before, especially as a child. I don't see myself taking this one. I don't trust it given how it was rushed and I don't trust the mRNA technology. Who knows what the long term effects may be? There may not be any, but we just don't know that.

Another bad attempt at trolling?

We are halfway through the winter and lost more lives to Covid than all of fall, averaging close to 3k deaths per day. That is the top cause of death during the winter. Every sign is showing us heading in the right direction, but shouldn't really diminish the fact that losing 3k people a day is indeed fairly "dark".
